"To play wrong notes is insignificant. To play without passion is inexcusable." - Beethoven
I was five years old when I discovered my singing voice. My youthful curiosity soon blossomed into a passion for musical expression through voice, violin, piano, and guitar. My mission is to share the musical exploration that has enriched my life by fostering my students' desires to express themselves through music.
As a teacher, I focus equally on formal technique and artistic expression. Mastering correct form provides the foundation upon which a student’s capacity for the latter may grow. Techniques used during lessons are designed to develop a holistic understanding of music through aural, visual, and tactile cues. These include ear training, sight-reading, improvisation and using visualization to navigate the instrument. Progress is e
valuated by developing a set of goals specific to each student. I find that allowing students input in originating goals facilitates a cooperative learning environment and allows me to tailor lessons to a student's interests, strengths and learning preferences. Providing students with a plan to succeed inspires a drive to learn and sense of achievement. I encourage students to play their instruments daily. Through consistent practice, students will benefit from increased discipline, patience, creativity and self-esteem. Students are rewarded with the chance to share what they've learned at recitals held biannually. For the duration of our lesson, my students are in a private, nurturing zone of free expression. Join me in an exploration of personal talent and creativity!

Teacher good but company awful. They keep contacting me instead of my husband who is the one taking the lessons. I give them his number and I have asked perhaps 5 times that they contact him direct but they seem unable to follow a simple instruction. I am now blocking them to get some peace.
Michael has worked with kids for 10 years in schools and arts programs to find fun and their best self through performance. He has taught orchestra, chamber music, jazz band and music theory in the public schools, while performing in local ensembles in and around the city. He also has studied drama, voice and movement and believes all these skills help in expressing yourself--no matter what pieces you want to play!
In addition to working with students K-12, he also loves working with adults. I try to provide a nurturing atmosphere for someone trying revive or discover previously hidden musical interests!
*** Lesson Details *** We begin with what we love. The student usually chooses one of his or her favorite songs to interpret. Later, we add music, usually from the classical or jazz fields, that build our skills and help us f

For Singing, as a vocal technician/trainer I am like going to the gym for your voice. My exercises are safe, simple, and most importantly, I teach you how to practice correctly.
For ACTing, we can explore both the foundation itself, building your acting chops with monologues and scenes, as well as learning how to audition-- the tricks of the trade mastering the camera frame and how to create memorable auditions for TV/Film.
For Songwriting, we can explore the fundamentals of both lyrics and music, as well as catchy hooks, production, and song structure.
You may use my time however you wish (Voice, Acting, Songwriting, or Artistic/Career guidance).
Most vocal sessions will usually be a combination of strengthening/conditioning exercises, and then exploring/performing a song.
The TIYA vocal training method is uniquely my own as it combines both Bel Canto and Speech Level Singing. Emphasis is on developing a relaxed, released, authentic vocal timbre to sing in any style. Concepts explored include: Coordination, Registration, and Intonation. Chest, Head, Edge, and Pharyngel registration, 2 instruments in 1, posture, breath management, vocal cord adduction, trigger phrases, ring, consistency, and more.
Most ACTing sessions will be theatre monologues, TV/Film sides and/or On camera auditioning craft.
Career consultations usually include how to get an agent, headshots, branding, and marketing to align your artistic dreams with a strategy for success.

Auditions!! They are definitely the most difficult and nerve wracking part of being an actor or singer, right? Booking work means your audition has to be as good as opening night. *** Teaching Methods *** I foster a safe, relaxed and engaging environment to explore truthful human behavior on stage.
The objective is 'the truth' to which end there is no one technique. Actors are encouraged to find their own tools and to draw from elements of different practices to discover a technique that works best for them as individuals.
I studied the methods of Constantin Stanislavski for acting with Sergei Pomerov of the Moscow Circus Theater. I am classically trained as well.
I work primarily as a guide to help navigate the way and to interpret ‘the signs.' I teach the lesson in the moment and address the challenges of both the beginner and the experienced actor.
***Classical Work*** My basic approach to classical work focuses primarily on the connection of the breath with the feeling on the word.
This is the foundation on which you can then build. From the ‘words’ to the ‘thoughts’ to entire ‘passages’ of text, as you work and explore, the richness of the playwright’s words comes to life. Your own unique emotional life is allowed to come through the text and you are able to fully embody the role.
*** Teaching Levels and Focuses *** *Beginning Actors -Work With Classical Text. -Vocal Work. -"Moment to Moment" Work. -"Sense Memory" Work.
*Experienced Actors -In depth Classical Text Analysis. -Connecting to the Text. -Audition Technique -Monologue Coaching
***Professionals in the Corporate World*** -A basic understanding of how to present yourself as a speaker. -Address the root cause of your concerns in communicating. -Build a technique to craft a presentation to get the best response from a client or colleague.
I met with Nicholas before an audition. He is a wonderful teacher. He helped me already a great deal during that short hour, on how to approach the material, break it down in a way that will help my performance reach its full potential. I was able to deliver a truthful performance. I am looking forward to more sessions. Many thanks.

Hello! Thanks for visiting my Takelessons profile. Let me start off by telling you a bit about myself: I have been performing for over 25 years as a musician, acting since I was a small boy, and working consistently with public speaking, accent reduction and other presentational skills throughout my career. I started my musical education as a woodwind player and settled in to the wonderful world of singing over time. Music has opened me up to so many incredible opportunities from touring the world to performing in marvelous concert halls and working with some of today's most respected artists, as well as giving me the opportunity to expand my performance skills through acting in various plays, musicals, television, and film.
Performing has absolutely b
een my salvation! Throughout my life it has been a best friend and constant source of joy, and I share this gift with others so that it might help them to find the same joy. After more than 10 years of teaching, I have so many new experiences to draw from and share with my students. I spent nearly 10 years performing with Disney in California and abroad in their Tokyo Disney cast, and I must say that those experiences, vast and varied as they are, have given the word "performance" a depth that I couldn't have imagined. Those experiences have made me excited to dive into every lesson with fresh ideas that will mesh well with many tried and tested teaching techniques.
Originally from Los Angeles, I now reside in Orange County and I'm proud to have expanded my studio to serving clients all over the world with online lessons via Skype and FaceTime! I get such joy from sharing my experiences with a diverse group of people from so many walks of life. If you're interested in learning more about my lesson style, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to talk with you about a plan to help you reach your goals!
For Students of Voice: Teaching Style
Over the past several years I have focused much of my personal growth on developing my ears' ability to pick out and pinpoint vocal “placement”, resonance, subtleties of timbre, changes in pitch, breath support, air speed and flow, pronunciation and diction, and in general, the way in which all of these work together to create style. From these assessments, I work with the student’s particular needs to address each area individually and based on the learning style of each person. To illustrate to the student their method as I see and hear it, as well as ways in which they might make changes to facilitate the ease of singing --be they changes of tessitura (range), length of phrase, tone color, the release of unnecessary tension etc.-- I make use of vocalise (vocal exercises), simile and metaphor, examples from recorded performances, demonstration, self assessment, and techniques to “trick” the voice into acting in a different way, in addition to videos, diagrams, and texts on anatomy and physiology. I feel that all of these tools provide a unique and personalized learning experience for each student.
I teach Kristen Linklater voice technique and we work on breathing technique, projection of voice and confidence!
Lehman College, Bachelors of Fine Arts, Graduate! I am a Musical Theatre Performer. I perform all the time and believe that warm-ups are a big importance when it comes to performing. "Very talented, skilled and effective instructor. Taught through demonstration and coaching. Very effective."
"I sought Randy's advice for sounding like/being a more confident speaker. Within the first lesson he gave me excellent, concrete tips that I could try an
d that had visible results even in my every-day conversations. I was wary at first of online lessons, but I am so glad I gave it a shot. Highly recommend!"
"I always had a problem with public speaking. I don't articulate words well and don't have any volume. I'm shy and uncomfortable in front of people. Nicho
las worked on vocal lessons and how to enunciate and project. We also did breathing exercises and where to place the tongue with words. I improved my diction and with that, got more confidence in speaking in front of people, which is important in my job. Highly Recommend."
"Working with Michelle has been life-changing. If you're thinking about it-- just do it."
"For all my life I have been extremely soft-spoken and have been constantly reminded to speak up in social situations. This has negatively impacted my self
confidence and fed into a cycle that made me even quieter and more reserved. I tried to self-treat by browsing through countless YouTube videos and hundreds of Reddit pages but found that my practice at home did not translate into me being a louder speaker in public. Finally I decided I had nothing to lose and everything to gain from seeing a trained professional. That's when I met Fawn. She immediately dissected my problem into aspects I could tackle individually. She dispelled some previously crippling fears and notions that held me back but I could never manage to express with anyone. She gave me breathing and projection exercises and the immediate feedback that I definitely needed. She even diagnosed a specific lisp that I would never have thought possible to change. We eventually got rid of it and the confidence I have gained in my speech is overwhelming. I came in quiet and seeking answers. I left confident, with a sense of direction, and a new mentor and friend. Fawn is effective, charming, and hilarious. I would recommend her to anyone who is seeking answers and needs a coach for improvement, no matter the area."
"Helen is patient and kind. I am so happy to have found her. I have a problem called spasmodic dysphonia. I have tried many things and feel optimistic that
Helen can help me!"
"Kyle taught me a lot — while empowering me to believe I could do this — speak more confidently to groups. Looking forward to our next lesson."
"Michael is very friendly and makes learning easy. He is very practical in his materials and subject. He is not a sales man that is trying to make you bu
y subscriptions or materials. I would recommend Michal if you are interested in improving your speaking voice."
"Cyndi is an amazing instructor. She can cone down the technique and deliver it in a very practical way. She is also very kind, funny and pleasant to wor
k with. I would definitely recommend Cyndi to others who is trying to find the potential in his/her voice."
