If I could give Brian 10 stars, I would. He is enthusiastic, present, supportive and highly knowledgeable. Learning instruments has always been a challenge for me , but Brian makes being a banjo beginner an absolute joy. I look forward to practicing every day, and can really hear my progress - which amazes me because it's only been just over a month. I can see myself working with Brian for the long haul. He puts me at ease, and always gives great responsive tips that improve my playing immediately. I feel SO lucky to have stumbled across his profile.

I look forward to working with Brian. He's easy going, funny and patient, but very knowledgable and goal focused.

I have been a saxophonist for 11 years, currently studying as a saxophone student majoring in Music Education & Composition at Kansas State University.

Lessons for saxophone will consist of three main areas:

Technical Work:

No one wants to hear it, but this means scales and patterns! Learning all of the major and minor scales is a great start to learning new music, and will be the first goal for my students. Included in technical work is proper cleaning and care for the instrument, proper breathing, and physical habits such as posture.

Repertoire:

I want you to experience music that is capable of your skill level, exciting, and will help you learn about different styles and history. I have a substantial collection of music that can help you find what you enjoy playing! Along with learning to play new music, you will be learning about the significance of the music we play. Who wrote it? What time period? Why was it written? I am also a composer, so I have original ...

Tristan is an excellent flute teacher. This is a new instrument to me, but in the few months I've been studying with Tristan I have learned so much. He is patient and easy to work work and has a vast knowledge of the instrument. I love passing on what I've learned while I've been at school! While I might be young, I have taken lessons with the great jazz saxophonist and arranger Charles "Chip" McNeill and the world renowned classical saxophone teacher and performer Debra Richtmeyer so I hope to pass down the love of the instrument that they've instilled in me. I'll cover the basics of the saxophone, as well as clarinet and flute if interested, and some great exercises and methods that my teachers have me do in order to improve. But in the end, I'll let the student decide what they want to learn. I'm open to many music styles and will try to lead each student in the right direction.

About Adam

Hello future students! My name is Adam and I am currently a junior studying jazz saxophone at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. While I might be young, I do have teaching experience with middle school band. I hope to pass on what I've learned from my teachers, Charles McNeill and Debra

"Wonderful lessons experience overall! Teaching style helped me improve my skills without losing the desire to play, and during lessons, there was a good balance between teaching me and then letting me apply those skills. Gave me the opportunity to play what I wanted to play but also exposed me to different styles of music and different music experiences. Helped me get out of my comfort zone while still letting me enjoy what I was doing."
