Fretboard knowledge and principles

About Randall

My love of music and musical talent was discovered when I was just five years old. An uncle gave me a plastic recorder and, without lessons or help from anyone, I was playing melodies within days. Soon after I started taking private lessons on Saxophone and Clarinet. I played my first paying job

My name is Nick Novy, I recently graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Environmental Science. Although science is my profession music is my main hobby. I started teaching myself to play acoustic guitar in middle school and started getting more serious taking lessons and playing with friends in a band in high school. Since then I have taken multiple guitar courses at FSU and practice regularly. I enjoy any and all types of music and love playing everything from rock and blues to reggae, hip hop, and pop. I believe electric guitar is the most fun to play, but suggest any beginners looking to get into playing start on an acoustic guitar when I can help develop fundamental skills but I am not against those interested in or only have electric setups. For more intermediate players I am willing to learn any songs you wish to learn and work them out together learning lead parts and providing backing track. I have equipment available for electric players without amplifiers ...

I teach from a very technical standpoint. Form and function, physicality, and basic science can teach you a lot about singing properly. My goal is to get the student to a point where they can teach themselves when they build their voice and the lesson becomes a weekly or monthly check in of the progress. As singers we want good results, but we have to focus on the process and the result will follow on its own correctly without forcing the result we want. This process of optimal sound and beautiful tone can take some time, but when the steps are taken correctly, the results become ideal.

About David

David W. has made numerous appearances across the country as an up-and-coming lyric tenor. Recent roles include Count Almaviva with "requisite Rossini high notes" (The Wall Street Journal) in Francesca Zambello's new production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia at The Glimmerglass Festival and Ernesto in

David is awesome! I really like his approach to singing. it's been fun to feel myself improve by just making small adjustments that I never would've thought of before. he has a great technique that anyone would benefit from - and the best part is that it's logical and just makes sense. fantastic lessons and a great approach to improving the singing voice easily!

For music theory lessons, I use Alfred's complete music theory course which is an AP theory course in one book! The book also covers ear training and dictation exercises which are vital to music theory and being a good musician/instrumentalist/composer!

"I can't compare Justin with any other teacher as my child has had only one trumpet instructor; but I believe they do not come much, if any better, than Justin! He is a natural teacher. He is punctual, caring, patient, encouraging, and most professional. I especially like the way he consistently corrects the "little" bad habits that may become a monumental problem later. I consider it an honor having my child being taught by Justin."

"Bernard is the man!! Not only is he super chill and easy to work with, but he helped me with all aspects of my music. When I started working with him I was very new to rapping and only had lyrics (not even written to a beat). He helped me with my flow, rhythm, writing to a beat, voice, breathing and his creativity was apparent from day 1. Can’t say enough about how much he helped me develop as an artist."
