About Natalie
Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, at the age of 9, Natalie knew music was something that was just a part of who she was. Writing songs on the piano before lessons could be scheduled, Natalie found herself immersed in a medium that would bring her joy for the rest of her life.

By age 14 Natalie had won several trophies competing in Classical piano with the Illinois Music Association.

As an adult, she would go on to fill her life with the world of music as a singer, songwriter, performer and recording artist.

Graduating from Elmhurst College (1997) with a Bachelor's in Music, Natalie received high accolades earning a membership in the Lambda Sigma Psi Music Honor Society.

During her college years, Natalie created and owned a local music publication called, "The Local Buzz". At this moment she had discovered her
desire to teach. "I just wanted everyone I knew in music to know and use what I was learning, or had learned from the music classes, professionals I had been meeting and working with, and my overall music life experiences". By 1997, Natalie was signed to an independent label and embarked on a new adventure.

"Music is an adventure, but without the foundation and passion I had as a child, I would have never landed where I did. I truly LOVE to teach and share what I know about piano, and the world of music. Music is what I know, and know best. Helping to create a solid foundation and build confidence in someone embarking on a journey in music is the most rewarding profession I have ever had the honor of participating in."

During my first and only lesson so far, I found Natalie to be very personable, funny and focused on my personal vocal range and my areas of difficulty, exactly as I hoped she would be. I'm sure I will learn more about her as I take more lessons with her.

I teach/tutor a myriad of topics and love doing it. I'm currently attending the Georgia Institute of Technology, studying aerospace engineering and computer science, so I love science and math (particularly when it has to do with space stuff). I'm super outgoing and a very laid back, chill person all at the same time (being like this has produced quite the stories). I also love food, a lot.

Working with others and helping them succeed has been something I've loved to do for a while now. While I was in high school, I was a coach for one of the local swim teams and had a blast getting to teach people how to swim and such, and the best part was getting to connect with those kids and seeing them succeed during the swim meets.

Once I graduated, I had the privilege to serve as a full time volunteer in Brazil for a couple years, where my
sole focus, every day, was to help others to improve the quality of their life. In doing so, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet new people everyday and see people's lives drastically improve. Another cool part of this experience was that I got to teach English as a second language to people who'd never spoken it before. They loved it, and in the time that I did teach it, students went from speaking no English to being able to form basic sentences and have simple conversations.

Now in college, I've strived to continue this pattern with the little free time that I get during the week and on the weekends due to my classes. Throughout all of this, I've discovered how easy it is for me to connect with people and how much fun it can be.

What I bring to the lessons:
I always ensure to provide the highest quality lessons and ensure that the student easily understands the materials. I'll provide materials that I know will assist the student to master the concepts.

My expectations:
Learning requires the student to put in effort. Any assignments I give, I will expect them to be completed. I understand that sometimes one of "those weeks" comes around where life hits us in the face, but it's not every week.

Your expectations:
You've come to me obviously to learn something new, and I intend to go above and beyond those expectations. I want the lessons to be more than just sit down, do the work, and then leave. That's not a great way to learn stuff, in my opinion. Expect to be brought out of your comfort zone a bit and experience things you never experienced before. Above all, expect to see these lessons as an enjoyable experience.

I am studying french horn at Grand Valley State University but am also efficient in euphonium, piano, music theory, aural (reading rhythms and reciting them aloud), and trumpet. I have been in marching band for 6 years on mellophone so I can also help with teaching marching techniques and mellophone playing since it is very different from french horn.

My math lessons are unique in that I develop a connection with students that allow them to feel comfortable telling me "I don't understand." This is often the hardest barrier that parents believe their child has when being taught, and I'm often warned by the parent before I arrive that the student fakes understanding around his teachers or other tutors. But being 23 years old allows me to be a teacher and a friend at the same time and I feel that this smaller age gap between student and teacher is what makes them feel comfortable opening up to me, which they do with ease. After tutoring over 30 students in math ranging from middle school arithmetic to college calculus 2 to adults taking qualifying exams, I have been confidently able to identify exactly how the students are processing their math assignments just by watching them try to solve a single problem. After that, I just focus on correcting their way of thinking. My goal of tutoring is for the students to not need my help ...

"It's not about learning, it's about understanding."

Hi! My name is Emily and I am 23 years old. I am originally from Massachusetts, where I earned my degree in physics at Boston College before moving to central Florida in August 2017. I took off with just what I could fit in my car and drove from Massachusetts to Orlando to try a new life on my own. Tutoring was an accidental passion that definitely saved me. I was messaged around midnight by a worried mother telling me her son received a 0 on his last chemistry exam, and that the teacher gave him a day to take it home to retake for partial credit. At this time I had been applying and applying to jobs with no luck so I jumped on the opportunity and messaged her back right away. The next night I was at their house for hours helping their son understand the material and retake the exam. H
e received the full partial credit on the test. After 1 more session with him the folllowing week, he had another exam. He received a 100%! His mother was in shock and at that moment I realized I had something special. I loved the nights we spent fighting through material just as much as I loved the nights where everything just clicked for him. Since then, I have tutored over 30 students in subjects including (not limited to) middle school math, pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, college algebra, pre-calculus, liberal arts math, arithmetic, college calculus 2, biology, AP chemistry, AP physics, college physics, and test prep including SAT, GED, GRE, GKT, and ASVAB. I attribute my success to not focusing on memorization because problems memorized are problems forgotten! Instead, I teach the students how to teach themselves how to start a problem because even complex problems are just series of simple steps disguised by complicated word problems and extraneous information. It's not about learning, it's about understanding. So far I have been blessed with students who will openly tell me "I do not understand" which is an awesome thing to say! It gives me a great place to start: from the beginning. (It's okay if you don't say you don't understand...I will still know ;) ) Often students will just say they do not know how to start a problem, but this hides a deeper dependence on memorization and lack of conceptual understanding.
