Analyzing a piece of music is almost like solving a puzzle. The only difference is, this puzzle often has multiple solutions. This is what makes music theory a special subject because for many composers who created pieces before modern day music theory, we are merely guessing their intentions but have no definitive answer. The only way to master this puzzle-solving process is repetition, repetition, and more repetition. Teaching students how to first dinstinguish the pieces of the puzzle from one another, then learn to break them down, takes time and patience. The most important task for the tutor is to let the student work through the puzzle with minimal interjections so they can understand how each piece fits together and enjoy the mystery of theory and analysis.

From our experience in working with Colin, he seems to be a good instructor, patient but also encouraging to advance and not worry about being perfect. Only issue we had was he was late to a couple lessons, but he's rearranged his schedule so that isn't an issue anymore.

Sulina Baek is a good teacher that I had the fortune of working with over the past 2-3 months. She is patient and gives useful coaching tips to improve technique. At the same time, I never felt overwhelmed with too much information during our lessons. Sulina kept everything manageable and actionable and that helped me make a lot of progress. Thus we often covered a lot of ,music lesson, and frequently ran out of time. She is also very knowledgeable in canon and in theory, which has helped me figure out what standard to aim at during my own practice. Sulina helped me turn my motivation into audible results.

I love working with people and helping them discover their instruments and how to deliver their sound! As a voice professional I've worked with voice students from beginners to the extremely advanced and seen tremendous growth and also have extensive experience coaching full bands and helping them develop their stage presence and quality of sound.
I also adore children and truly enjoy teaching beginning piano and guitar. With a Master of Music degree and over twenty years experience in teaching and professionally performing vocally in almost all American art forms, I have helped students consistently grow and develop with noticeable changes in their instrument within just a few weeks! I also do performance coaching for the young independent artist and/or music theater performer, going beyond just the mechanisms of the instrument to help the performer fine-tune ways to engage their potential audience.

Miriam has made a tremendous positive impact on my vocal technique. Her vocal pedagogy is masterful and her vocal chops are top notch from her extensive experience touring. If you are looking to become a better vocalist and wish to enjoy your lessons, I would look no further than Miriam Porter.
Ally
Taking lessons with Miriam has been a blessing in my life. She has helped me not only grow vocally, but as an individual. She is incredibly intelligent, kind, encouraging, and talented! I would never take voice lessons with anyone else. She is a ray of sunshine, and if it weren't for her, I wouldn't be where I am today, vocally and as a person. I recommend her to everyone considering taking lessons. She cares for you as an individual, and believes in you. That is incredibly hard to find elsewhere, and I am grateful I found her!

Miriam taught me vocal techniques that no other teacher could teach me. She has left such a big impression on my life. She has a beautifully soul and is genuinely a great person. She is the best vocal instructor I have ever had.

"Mauricio is a very talented musician. He's friendly, punctual and professional. He's always more than happy to answer my questions. He was also very patient when helping me choose a guitar for my father. Mauricio is currently teaching my father how to play a Nylon Spanish Guitar (beginner). My father loves his lessons with him and always looks forward to the next one. As of now, he's only had 4 lessons, but he's already more confident. I can also see how much my father has learned and improved in such a short amount of time. We will definitely continue guitar lessons with Mauricio and I would recommend him to any age group."
