Hello, fellow music lovers! My name is Nicole and I would be honored to have the opportunity to help you take your music skills, whether beginning to advanced, to the next level! I am a singer with 25+ years of experience with solos, small ensemble groups, and large choirs. My training first began in elementary school, in Virginia Beach, VA, when I took my first group voice lessons and concert band classes as a beginning flutist. I continued my study with a large home school band in the 7th grade. I was then chosen to play the flute in an All City Band in Virginia Beach, for excellence in my performance skills. From there I continued my study at a private school in Virginia Beach with many chorus, band, and youth band classes to further my music reading and improvisational performance skills. At age eighteen I moved to Tampa, FL and became a Liberal Arts major with a concentration in Music at Hillsborough Community College (HCC). I graduated from HCC with an AA in Liberal Arts/Music. I was then accepted to further my music study at the University of South Florida (USF). I studied voice and a sampling of other instruments in the Music Education program. I graduated with two and one-half years of music education training and another four years of voice training with a BA in Music Studies. Also, during my college years I participated in the elite USF Chamber Singers, the University Singers, the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, and many studio recitals.
In 2013 I completed my fourth year of music teaching in a small private school in Tampa, FL. I have sang with Opera Tampa since their 2012-2013 season in the professional opera chorus for productions such as Carmen, The Magic Flute, and Madame Butterfly. I have continued to add new performance jobs with The Princeton Festival in Princeton, NJ (2014), St. Petersburg Opera in St Pete, FL , and the Tampa Spiritual Ensemble performing in the surrounding Tampa Bay areas. In addition, I continue my studies part time at the Patel Conservatory in downtown Tampa.

When taking lessons with me you can expect to learn in a very positive, encouraging, and laid back environment! I believe that learning is fun, very rewarding, and never stops. I plan to continue learning more about my craft for the rest of my life and I would encourage my students of all ages to adopt this mentality also.
For voice lessons I like to begin with warm-ups and breathing exercises that can be modified to any style of songs. Then to song selections that will be enjoyable, yet helpful in making your voice better. For opera style I primarily use the G. Schirmer Opera Anthology books, and Hal Leonard published anthology series' for different art songs. For all other vocal styles I enjoy using various published individual-song sheet music or CDs and accompaniment tracks. Along the way giving all applicable tips for producing better sound, projection, breathing, phrasing, and musicality.
For flute lessons I would begin with scales or simple exercises. Then to specific pieces that you would want to work on or techniques from the Accent on Achievement or Standards of Excellence book series'.
For piano lessons I would begin with finger stretches, scale warm-ups and/or easy chords or pieces to get the fingers ready to practice. Then I would progress to your chosen pieces or a book from the Alfred or Bastien Piano Book series', which includes books for all levels and styles.

She has had the pleasure of Musical Directing with various inner city schools with young, at risk students including Inside Broadway, Brooklyn Arts Council, Mainstages, The Queens Theater, Long Lake Camp for the Arts, Berklee City Music Program, Boston Bridge Charter School, and St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School. Past shows she has musical directed have included Annie, Legally Blonde, The Wizard of Oz, Seussical, Oliver, Shrek, and Chicago. Liz also serves on the Berklee Alumni Audition Committee, and was recently named Berklee Alumni Ambassador of the Year. (2017)
Currently she is working on her original musical Ciao Bambino, which debuted it's first staged reading at the Midtown International Theater Festival in the Fall of 2016, and Off-Off Broadway at the 13th Street Repertory Theater! At MITF Ciao Bambino was recognized with an award for Best Staged Reading. "Give me the stage" an original song from the musical also won first place in competitions at the Bunol Symphony Orchestra in Spain and Hampton Beach talent show in New Hampshire.

Around December of last year, I discovered that my heart was not into blog writing. I sent Haley an email and explained my feelings and that I was actually passionate about screenwriting. She wrote back and I discovered this was right (or write) up her alley. Truth be told, as a nine year-old I used to write and direct 8 mm movies with my neighborhood friends as actors and dreamed one day of becoming a writer, producer and director. But like all other dreams this one was derailed.
Haley had me write a couple scene samples. She sent them back to me and was quite pleased with my neophyte attempt. I told her about a sci-fi television project that I wast interested in and after many months of her encouragement and my persistence I finished the first draft.
After some revisions, I watched her perform a table read by Skype utilizing the skills of her improvisation students. I loved watching their reaction as they each read their part. It is very gratifying watching some one become the character you created. It was intended to be funny and campy. There were times the actors seemed to have trouble containing their laughter. Overall their reaction was positive.
At this juncture, Haley is helping me with query letters and obtaining input from other professionals in her inner circle. She is also seeking input from other writers.
The most important thing is I enjoy screenwriting no matter what happens. Haley has helped me love what I'm doing and it is not chore but sweet ride.

English, a most wonderfully peculiar language, has a distinct ability, despite its rich potential for clarity of expression, to confuse those seeking to learn it, and to blatantly bewilder those daring to understand it.
The same analytical chops that mathematics demand and build can be used in linguistic study, as one discovers rules and patterns to make sense of the complexity.
If you need help on an essay, to diagram simple sentences, or learning where that comma or apostrophe needs to be, a dictionary is good, the internet is better, but a teacher with a ready sense of humor is the best.

I learned English as my second language when I was invited to study Music Performance at Dalhousie University on a full scholarship. As an ESL student I believe that I understand the intricacies of this language much better than a native speaker, since I had to learn it from scratch at University level. Through both of my degrees I have been writing academic papers and one of my essays was published by a Harvard professor. I am an avid lover of literature and a real grammar-nazi with good intensions of course!
I am passionate about teaching because I believe education and willingness to learn is an extremely important factor for personal development and success.
I was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia and underwent intensive training in voice, violin, composition and piano. After winning the Frieburg Intenational Violin Competition in 2010, I was offered a full scholarship to study music at Dalhousie University at the age of sixteen. After moving to Canada I went through a 9-month intensive english learning program, so I know first hand how difficult it can be to learn a new language. This experience helped me understand the struggles that any ESL student goes through and discover new ways to teach my first language to others.
