I approach piano from a classical background and students can expect to study some materials related to classical music, and if a students interest is outside of classical they can expect to learn how to play their favorite song, or a familiar melody from a movie, or how to listen to songs on the radio or online and be able to figure them out!
For students who would like a broader understanding of piano and how to play they will be expected to study a lesson series of books they must purchase at the discretion of the teacher, or as a teacher I can also teach out of any existing books a student might have. If they would like to learn one song they love and want to purchase Pay-As-You-Go lessons until they have mastered it, that is great, too!
Students who want to gain a comprehensive study of piano will also learn music theory and ear training, and how to read music.

In piano lessons, you will learn all the basics of music reading and music theory. I like to give people knowledge that they can use and expand on in their own time. You will play a variety of pieces and have the opportunity to choose music that you enjoy! I use the Faber Piano Adventures series as a guidepost for learning. *I teach beginner and early intermediate piano only, as piano is a secondary instrument for me personally. If you want to learn to play for enjoyment, learn basic theory and sightreading, I can absolutely help you! If you are looking to learn competition-level piano, I might not be right for you :)*

During our lessons we will focus on the fundamentals of the piano. We will learn correct technique, scales, ear training, and note reading. The other portion of the lesson will be focused on learning songs. The student can pick a song, and then we will learn it. All the while, adding new techniques and skills.
This is a fun way to learn music!! You get to learn an instrument while learning your favorite songs.

Hear From TakeLessons Piano Students
Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

I started playing piano in January and took about 10 lessons in an instructors home. For convenience, I looked into in home lessons and found TakeLessons.com, which led me to Jason. While I was still learning the basics, Jason immediately challenged me beyond what I thought I was going to be capable of and just when I would think I am not getting this, he would change it up and give me exactly the lesson I needed! While it is an entirely different teaching method than what I was use to, I have found that my skill level has significantly improved! I am still a beginner, but with Jason's leadership, I know I will continue to grow! He provides variety, has amazing technical equipment/software for delivering the lessons, is very patient, yet pushy in a good way, provides lots of materials to practice on your own, and always leaves you feeling good about your desire to play and enjoy music, no matter what your skill level is. And he is very prompt and organized and flexible. All around he is a true professional that I would recommend to anyone! I should also note that while his style of music may seem to be an extreme mismatch from yours, (I love country, classical, and soft rock), he has such a love and appreciation of music, that he makes it feel as if he wrote the songs that I want to learn to play as he is teaching them to me!"

Fawn is very engaging as a teacher. She has a wide range of abilities, that range from piano, to singing, to songwriting.
As a music producer i was looking to brush up on my songwriting and piano. Her unique ability to interchange all of the above skills has been invaluable.
I definitely recommend Fawn as a teacher ."

Dena has lots of patience and has helped my son overcome a lot of obstacles. She is very good with children of younger ages and understands age related challenges."
