Learn to read and write music for all instruments. Learn key signatures, chords, intervals, rhythm and more.

About Jill
Jill holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and has master's work in choral music and Orff-Schulwerk. For many years Jill has taught private and group music lessons to all ages with many varying styles of singing and instrumental music. Her lessons are unlike the ones she remembers from childhood; Jill's lessons are full of creativity, fun and excitement. It is amazing how students improve with each lesson. Jill brings more than just technique to the studio, she strives to find the best in each student and then concentrates on improving each individual's strengths and then delves into ways to correct the weaknesses.

Since Jill is a vocal soloist, instrumentalist, accompanist and music director, she knows what it takes to prepare and rehearse and therefore she makes it clear which concept the student will be working on during
the lesson. With an instrumental and choral background, Jill brings music to life and then shares with the students how to keep music in their lives forever. Many students who had vocal problems have achieved vocal success after taking several lessons with Jill and learning to keep their voices healthy for the rest of their lives.

Jill has worked with children, teens and adults in many schools, churches and after school programs that she designed. Her success with students who are very young or students who come with disabilities or autistic spectrum diagnosis are moved by the music Jill creates. With the help of the ORFF-SCHULWERK certification, Jill has many ways of reaching children through the use of instruments, rhythm activities, games and other fun ways of learning. Breaking barriers is Jill's best asset, she will not quit until the student has an understanding of the instrument or his/her voice.

The young and the older adults find that taking lessons with Jill has brought them to a place of realizing their potential. Successful stories include pre-school age through students who are retired. The length of time one studies depends on the student's practice and diligence. Many students have started with Jill in preschool or elementary school and have continued through high school and college. Several college age students wanted to improve their singing or instrumental skills so goals were set and met through Jill's successful teaching ability. Several students learn music theory and many students have learned song-writing and creating arrangements.

Many of Jill's students have become better musicians and a considerable number of students have chosen music professions for their careers. Multiple students have won contests, auditioned for parts in musicals, started local bands and have become songwriters and performers after taking lessons with Jill. One student has recently auditioned for American Idol and has made it through several auditions. Teaching a myriad of students from various places in the world who have come to the United States has been a great experience. The cultural differences makes the teaching of these students exciting since Jill learns about music in their own home countries. Some of the students are from China, Germany, Norway, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Colombia, Puerto Rico and many who moved to Florida from some other state in the U.S.A. What a joy it has been to learn to communicate with these students and to verify that music is a universal language. By special request Jill is available for online lessons through internet and devices as well as traveling to student locations when her schedule allows. Students interested in online or in-home lessons should send a message to her to request certain days and times of availability.

Jill held the title "Steinway Pianos Concert and Artist Director" in Dallas TX in the 80's, working with Steinway artists and Dallas Symphony, Opera, Ballet and other events like planning pianos for Prince Charles' visit and many other concerts and events. Jill also performed in many Dallas venues as well as providing pianos for the Cowboys, the clubs, hotels, country clubs and museums including The Dallas Museum of Art.

"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, plans succeed. " (Proverbs 15:22) It is Jill's belief that with her teaching qualifications and past record of success with student achievement and great experience studying with wonderful advisers, teaching YOU or YOUR CHILD will be one of success!

*** Lesson Details ***
Jill's teaching technique is flexible. Some students require a stern and strict approach while others seem to work best with more creative license. Jill is open to each student's needs. When booking lessons with Jill, one will find that the first thing she will do is find out more about the student's needs and desires to succeed in their chosen instrument. Meeting goals are important in music and in life!

Because of her flexible approach, method books vary depending on the student's need to succeed. Sometimes young students will need to review several beginning methods until their reading skills are achieved. For the young students, Jill teaches theory and gives the young students time during the lesson to explore musical symbols and try their hands at improvisation, rhythms, manuscripts and creativity.

Some students may desire to learn to play "by ear" or through improvisational skills. Jill is very good with improv and her song writing skills are strong. When a student desires to write music, Jill is there to help with questions about time signatures, note values, key signatures and transpositions.

Taking lessons with Jill is a journey that those who have tried have not had regrets. Several parents and past students would be happy to tell you how their talents and gifts improved after working with Jill for a few months. After three months of working together, Jill will know how to pursue the student's musical career. After 6 months the student will be able to play complete songs and have a sense of basic music theory. The hope is for the student to be confident of their instrument's abilities and to have a list of repertoire for upcoming events in the student's life.

Several of Jill's students have taken their skills, gifts and talents to the professional level. Students who have studied with Jill are professional music directors in high schools, middle schools, elementary schools, churches, soloists and some who are in school studying music as their major. Taking lessons with Jill will be something that will add value to the student's life forever because MUSIC is her life! Without music, the world would be a very dull place and individuals would be unhappy and depressed in every walk of life. Music brings out the beauty of creation and man's ability to skillfully play an instrument for pleasure or for one's occupation.

About Nicole
"To play wrong notes is insignificant. To play without passion is inexcusable." - Beethoven

I was five years old when I discovered my singing voice. My youthful curiosity soon blossomed into a passion for musical expression through voice, violin, piano, and guitar. My mission is to share the musical exploration that has enriched my life by fostering my students' desires to express themselves through music.

As a teacher, I focus equally on formal technique and artistic expression. Mastering correct form provides the foundation upon which a student’s capacity for the latter may grow. Techniques used during lessons are designed to develop a holistic understanding of music through aural, visual, and tactile cues. These include ear training, sight-reading, improvisation and using visualization to navigate the instrument. Progress is e
valuated by developing a set of goals specific to each student. I find that allowing students input in originating goals facilitates a cooperative learning environment and allows me to tailor lessons to a student's interests, strengths and learning preferences. Providing students with a plan to succeed inspires a drive to learn and sense of achievement. I encourage students to play their instruments daily. Through consistent practice, students will benefit from increased discipline, patience, creativity and self-esteem. Students are rewarded with the chance to share what they've learned at recitals held biannually. For the duration of our lesson, my students are in a private, nurturing zone of free expression. Join me in an exploration of personal talent and creativity!

Nicole has performed with the Rollins College Bach Festival Society Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. John V. Sinclair. She has also performed with the Florida Space Coast Philharmonic under the direction of Dr. Candler Schaffer. She is experienced as a session musician, recording vocals and violin at Wright Entertainment Group Studios (Justin Timberlake) with producer Will Baker (India Arie, Pink). She has performed as a soloist at the White House, Bob Carr Performing Arts Center, Amway Arena, and Hard Rock Live.

Nicole holds Bachelor of Arts degrees (with honors) in Music and Anthropology, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Rollins College. A member of the Honors Program (top 2%), and one of nine Cornell Scholars in her graduating class, she is very grateful to have been awarded a full academic scholarship. Nicole pursued concentrations in Violin and Vocal Performance, as well as Ethnomusicology. Nicole served as co-concertmaster of the Rollins College Orchestra and String Ensemble for three, consecutive years, under the direction of Dr. John V. Sinclair. She was featured at Christmas Vesper services in a solo performance of Winter (The Four Seasons) by Vivaldi, at the Knowles Memorial Chapel. Nicole has studied violin with Joni Roos and Alvaro Gomez, protege of David Oistrakh. She has performed as a soloist with the Rollins College Gospel and Concert Choirs and studied vocal pedagogy and performance with Dr. Edmund Leroy and Dr. Lori Lovell. At Rollins, Nicole studied piano with Dr. Gloria Cook and enjoys playing classical, jazz, and Latin styles. Nicole has studied classical guitar for seven years and especially enjoys playing Latin American folk music and flamenco. Nicole pursued her love of world music in publishing her senior honors thesis, “Cultural Fusion of Music Constructs: A Look at Hybrid World Styles,” analyzing the effects of globalization on traditional, ethnic musics. She has published research in the Rollins Undergraduate Research Journal, where she also served as Music and Anthropology Editor for three years.

Need help understanding the fundamental aspects of music theory? High school and college students, look no further for help on your AP and final exams!

About Yamilet
Yamilet realized her love for music at the early age of 7, after singing along with children's television shows and joining her elementary school chorus. She was also a member of the Orff ensemble and in the 4th grade began learning to play the violin. Using that background knowledge, she began to teach herself piano. In the 5th grade, she switched to cello. Although she has always had an insatiable curiosity with musical instruments (playing as many notes as she can figure out on harmonica, guitar, recorder, clarinet, double bass, viola and even water-filled glasses) she has stuck with the cello for almost 15 years.

Yamilet is a Dr. Phillips High School alum, where she was accepted into their Visual and Performing Arts Magnet Program. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors in Music Performance in 2010, s
tudying with Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra members Barbara George and Laurel Stanton. She recently completed her Master of Arts degree in Music Performance. In that time, she performed with the UCF Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Laszlo Marosi, and was the principal cellist for over 5 years. She also played with the UCF Chamber Ensemble, String Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, and sang in the Women'€™s Chorus and Opera Workshop.

Locally, Yamilet has performed with the Space Coast Pops Orchestra under the direction of Richard Hayman, alongside guest artists including Carol Stein, Copeland Davis, and Valerie Pernice. She has also played alongside well-known artists/bands such as Jodi Benson, Mana', Kansas, and Classic Albums Live. Yamilet also enjoys performing and recording for local bands and artists such as Urbe Prima, The Drive to Uqbar, Ratham Stone, Stockholm, Hoyle, James Roquemore, and Edgar Junior.

My job as a teacher is to help you learn everything you need to know about playing your instrument, and really perfecting your technique. I like to use the Essential Elements for Strings book because it is straight-forward and lets you move at your own pace. Once you are proficient enough with the basics, we may move on to the Suzuki Solo books and take time to be able to get each piece to a performance-ready level.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I provide music stands, appropriate seating, and supplemental music. I expect the students to have their own instrument and necessary accessories (rock stop, rosin, shoulder rest).

I believe that teaching students "the language of music" (also known as Theory) will provide students with a holistic understanding and ability to interpret the composer's wishes for their musical composition.

About Rosely
PIANO TEACHER/TUTOR BIO:

I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and emigrated with my family to the United States, moving to Brooklyn in 1962 at the age of 9. I began my piano training in Brazil at the age of 7 and continued my studies in New York. I speak three languages fluently - English, Portuguese and Spanish.

While continuing piano lessons at the Long Island Conservatory of Music, I found my passion for teaching while still a student. During my early teaching career, I apprenticed with the conservatory's director, master teacher, composer and author of educational books, Sidney J. Lawrence. While shaping my philosophy of teaching, Mr. Lawrence became my mentor and friend. I taught 3-4 year olds in preschool music pedagogy classes while also teaching piano in a career that spans more than 40 years of working with children and a
dults at all levels.

I am able to adapt my teaching style to my students' unique way of thinking and communicate musical concepts in a way they can understand. I believe in not only teaching how to play the piano, but also the "language of music." This provides students with a holistic understanding that encompasses theory, technique, sight reading, basic composition, and performance, all while sharing my personal joy of music.

I am currently living in Clermont, FL and am specializing in teaching teens and adults. I feel that high expectations for my students encourages them to reach for the best of themselves, achieve the highest standards and carry their musical training into their future lives.

A somewhat controversial topic in guitar instruction. Many people are adamant about not learning music theory because they either A.) say it doesn't apply to them or B.) are afraid it will tamper with their creativity. I understand where both of these mindsets stem from but I personally believe they are both wrong.

I have been through 4 years of college music, which includes 2 years of music theory and I can safely say that yes, there is definitely a point where music theory stops being useful and starts to become more of a thing you can use to impress your friends and nothing more. The great thing about music theory is that you don't have to get anywhere near that level of knowledge to reap immense benefits in your playing and writing.

A simple knowledge of chord progressions, chord voicings, keys, scales, and note choice can turn a bunch of cool sounding chords that you were messing with, into a chord progression that you not only understand what it is but also why it sounds

About Christian
My name is Christian L. and I am a 28 year old guitar/music instructor in the Orlando area. My interest in guitar began when I was 12 years old and blossomed into a full time obsession about 3 years later when I started playing small gigs as a solo guitarist playing simple jazz and classical pieces for small art clubs and events. Alongside gigging, I also began teaching guitar, ear training, and music theory when I turned 18 and have been teaching full time ever since. During that time I also spent 4 years in music school for classical guitar. Currently I spend my time teaching, recording, and performing various styles including rock, jazz, pop, hip-hop, musical theater, metal, and country.

Throughout the 8 years I have been an instructor I believe I have refined my teaching style to be as versatile as possible to accommodate any learn
ing style a student may have. I am capable of teaching all styles of guitar at any skill level with an emphasis on ear training and general knowledge of guitar techniques.

Slight disclaimer in regards to lesson length, price, and student interest:

Over the past year or so I have tried a new teaching structure that I find to be quite rewarding for myself and the students I have had. My lessons do not have a maximum time limit, meaning a lesson could go for 2 hours, if that is what the student wanted, for the same price as a 45 min lesson.

This may sound strange in that I would be losing out on a large amount of potential money but the simple answer is this: I love music and guitar as well as teaching music and guitar. If we are in the middle of a great topic that you, the student, is really interested in, there is no way that I am simply going to stop talking about it when the "timer" stops and there is no way I am going to charge you more for getting into a topic you want to learn.

I find that students who spend more time in the lessons tend to become more interested in guitar and thus, better at playing. I do have to instill a minimum time limit of 45 mins however, any less is honestly just not enough time to get anything worth while accomplished.

One last thing, music and guitar have made up the majority of my daily routine for the past 10 or so years and have literally paid for everything that I currently own as I have never had any other type of job. What this means is that I take the craft very seriously and I project that in the lessons. Basically, if you are genuinely interested in learning guitar and music at any skill level, I will show you everything I possibly can to let you meet your goals. However, if you do not take it seriously, as in you don't pick up or even think about the guitar except for lesson days, the lessons may quickly feel pointless.

For more information on what I teach, feel free to look into the category entitled "Guitar" as well as any of the other subcategories that you are interested in.

Music theory is taught in all lessons

About Cara
Making music and Teaching music has always been a huge part of my life! Music has brought such joy to my personal life and the lives of my students and their friends and family. I teach music because it is such a wonderful experience for everyone involved from the practice room to the performance. I hold a Degree in Music Education from Kent State Univ. I have conducted both chorus and orchestra, established small singing groups and founded the Strings of Gold. I promised my own children that music would bring adventures, and they are all performing throughout the world today. Many of my private students experience new friendships at music camps, orchestras, bands, churches, and find a wonderful purpose in school through their participation in music programs. Many of my adult students have enjoyed the accomplishment of playing an instrum
ent and sharing their music with friends and family. I am excited that you are interested in taking music lessons! I look forward to sharing your musical adventure .

Cara is the best music teacher we've ever met. My daughter Amanda (now 6 years old) started learning piano from her 8 months ago. Before that Amanda learned piano for 1 year but didn't have good progress. Now, Not only can Amanda play piano very well, but also she can play violin well for 5 variations of Twinkle Twinkle, after only 9 violin classes from Cara. The most important thing is: Amanda is falling love with the music, which I believe will benefit her whole life. In our opinion, experience, fun, discipline and child-centered are the key to Cara's teaching success. We have met with her husband (a retired band director), and two daughters (both professional violinists), we can feel their love to the music and really admire their music skill.

Our friends thought we were crazy when they knew the fact that we need to drive 60 minutes single trip to take the weekly lesson, but after they see Amanda playing piano and violin, they think it well deserves it.

Cara is the best music teacher for kids in Metro-Orlando area. If you want your kid to fall in love with music, she is your best choice. Go Cara!

During my time at DGR I designed and oversaw the majority of the music program, taught students of all ages, and through my upbeat approach to teaching I helped increase the number of students to 8 times the amount from which I started. Most importantly, I inspir
ed and developed many artists that will forever be some of my greatest friends!

My passion is spreading light and healing through music.

Francisco has been a great instructor thus far. It's evident he loves teaching. He explains techniques in a simple manner and is extremely patient and encouraging. I would recommend Fransico to any beginner or advanced guitarist.

Lucas is very nice and asked a lot of the right questions. He gave me some exercises to practice that will help my playing. I enjoyed the lesson, and think I will get a lot from it. Good start!
