As a violin teacher, I focus on two core concepts: having an idea of what you want to create musically, and figuring out how to create it. Playing the violin is learning to combine creativity and emotion with logic and practicality. For every piece of music I teach, I guide students to access their inner musical creativity (something I strongly believe everyone has!) in order to have ideas on how they can express the music in an effective and impactful way that makes sense, and to figure out what kinds of emotions they can bring out through the piece. I then give structured step-by-step instruction and guidance to gain the technical abilities and fundamentals needed to bring their ideas to life through the violin.
About Brian
I have been a performer and teacher based in New York since 2005. I received my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School, an Artist Diploma from Yale University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from Stony Brook University. My experience as a teacher includes having been

- Very analytical, lot of focus on technical issues, but rather dry and uninspired musically.
- Very emotional and inspiring, wonderful performers themselves. But they struggle to be helpful when I encountered technical roadblocks.
Prof. Bak was the first teacher I have had that somehow managed to have the best of both worlds. An extremely sensitive musician who feels the music deeply and is able to transfer that inspiration to his students; while at the same time, he is incredibly patient and analytical when needed to assist students with their technical issues or musical understanding (such as harmonic structure, or historical background of the pieces).
Absolute gem of a musician/teacher to find!

Learning to play the violin doesn't have to be a task. I believe conquering a musical instrument is as much about love as it is dedication. I wouldn't be where I am today without the love and support of my teachers throughout the years. With my teaching, I intend to instill great technical facility as well as a love and respect for the instrument. (Students must provide their own violin)

I have taught violin for 30 years. My students enjoy playing in groups and performing as soloists. Many of my violin students have attended music camps throughout the U.S I teach using a combination of Suzuki and my own select books and pieces. I offer three showcases per year that are filled with such FUN. The showcases are so fun that the usual response to them is : Can I play more than one song next time and I should have invited more friends to come. I am excited that YOU want music lessons

Pedagogy is one of the few and rare professions that requires true vocation and conviction. I believe that teaching comes from sharing and I love to help each and every one of my students develop their own gift and understanding of music. This year marks the beginning of my 11th year of teaching and I am fascinated and humbled by everything that I have learned from all of my students!
Learning to play an instrument is a formative, fun and inclusive process for both teacher and student. I enjoy seeing my pupils progress and ultimately, finding their voice and telling their own story through music. My objective as a docent is to inspire students to develop high intrapersonal intelligence so that they may become their own best teacher.
It is my hope that my students will acquire tools that will not only help them become better musicians but that will also assist them in other areas of their lives.
The student will learn healthy ways of approaching the instrument. I guarantee the

Dr. Samuel Kelder has concertized throughout the United States and Europe, and has studied with some of the finest pedagogues of this generation. His passion for teaching stems from the fine training he received in New York City and Boston, and his urge to share with the next generation of string players all that he has discovered along his own musical journey.
As an educator of all age groups, my first priority is to instill a sense of motivation for my students. Through my 20+ years of experience taking lessons from a variety of different teachers and methodologies, I have come to understand that the bulk of progress made is by the student’s personal discovery and advancements on the instrument. My weekly lessons provide several levels of insight: teaching the art of practicing and problem solving, guidance in how to break down and understand problematic technical issues, and most importantly how to bring an individual ownership to any piece of music. These skills are certainly ...

Come and play the violin! There is so much music out there, and if you can even sort of sing a melody, there is a way to get it into your fingers. If you are already playing and want to improve, or expand what you have, you can go for it!
