Ready to put together some effective practice skills and learn how to get around the horn? Maybe you're getting ready for that All-State audition or to take that first chair spot or learn to play some fun tunes. I'm willing to help if you're able to practice. Texts vary depending on level, genre, and what you're interested in achieving. Topics to be covered include but aren't limited to: How to practice to make the most of our lessons and your time, good fundamentals and technique, sight reading, theory, improvisation, suggested listening and repertoire, audition prep...

About Kevin
School is important, but MUSIC is importanter. Learning to practice and love it is one of the most useful skills anybody can ask for in any field. I wholeheartedly believe that anyone that puts in honest practice and exploration will find a way around an instrument. For the last 20 years I have been teaching privately, in the public, private and charter schools, and have been writing and playing professionally. Some of my best students have pursued music as a career and some are engineers or housewives or something else, but playing music is something they all hold close to their hearts.

I had the pleasure of being Mr. Muncy's student during my high school years. I started as a beginner in my sophomore year having never taken a music lesson. I took this course simply to fulfill an arts requirement, but his infectious passion for music and teaching inspired in me a deeper interest in the subject. His patience, unique teaching style, and ability to communicate complicated musical concepts equipped me with the capability to pursue music more seriously. After graduating from his music program, I joined the symphony band at my university, held various steady professional gigs and formed my own groups for performing at charity events. Three years of lessons with Mr. Muncy, and some dedication on my end, allowed me to surpass my own expectations in music. I continue to play while pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant and feel privileged to have Mr. Muncy as a mentor. His lessons not only allowed me to pursue my passion for music, but have taught me life skills that have also molded me as a clinician. If you are looking to take music lessons, I highly recommend Mr. Kevin Muncy.

Kevin was an excellent teacher when I had him many moons ago - I can only imagine that he has improved since then. I was a beginner, learning the bass. That isn't Kevin's primary instrument, but he was knowledgeable enough to help me lay much of the foundation for the all that I know in bass playing today. He helped inform my music history knowledge, appreciation and pointed me to some great artists, books (esp. Free Play), and people to learn from. Perhaps more importantly, he really helped stimulate my growth and development within music and within life itself. I credit a good part of who I am and my success today to the tutelage and teaching of Kevin.

Winner of the 2017 Outstanding Musician Award at Bloomsburg University, Steph is excited to teach students of all ages who want to improve their playing! She wants to help students learn and improve their fundamentals: tone, articulation, sight-reading, posture, etc. She would also be delighted to teach a student who is an absolute beginner! We will work out of flute methods books, etude books, and/or specific repertoire picked by the student.

About Steph
Hello! My name is Steph and I would love to teach beginner students who are just starting out and intermediate flute players who want to get better at fundamentals: tone, technique, vibrato, articulation, etc. I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Music, where I focused on flute performance. While at Bloomsburg, I taught private lessons to college-age students who were beginners to intermediate flutists. I have studied many major classical works as well as modern works with extended techniques. I was principal chair of Bloomsburg University's Wind Ensemble and Concert Band for three years, and I was actively involved in our New Music Ensemble. I would love to help you improve your playing and I can't wait to teach you :)

I had Stephanie as a tutor in music theory all the way through my theory classes in college, and she is a great help. She is very friendly and extremely patient, and helped me come out of my shell and feel comfortable in my theory classes. I cannot stress enough what a wonderful bright person she is, and how great she is at what she does! She is an extremely intelligent and qualified instructor, as well as being a brilliant flutist.

She can found techniques that work for me and my tone improved a lot. I learned a lot from her and I have found a new hobbie. She is also a very good theory teacher and is good at explaining the concepts. I would recommend her to anyone!

My students start at a very basic and fundamental level. Once I feel they are prepared to move on then we can move on. They are expected to prepare one exercise for me for each lesson from pages of a book that I will provide for them. As well as, 4 scales which will be the major and all minor versions of a certain scale. My students are very knowledgeable about the basics before moving on. Depending on each student, lessons will be changed up on what the student also needs to cover for the week.

About Jennifer
Hi, there! My name is Jennifer and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2016 and have loved helping my students prepare for solos and learning more about the world of music . I currently go to Florida International University where I am studying music education. I'm a funny (at least I like to think so) and a kind person with my lessons being strict, with a fun attitude, and a fun atmosphere. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

I am a passionate musician and educator. I have worked for many years as a private flute instructor on both the modern and baroque flute, gaining experience teaching many age and skill levels. Lessons are tailored to the individual needs and goals of the student, with an emphasis on developing tone, technique, and breathing skills. Students will also be encouraged to think about the music that they play. As a musician, I developed an interest in the field of Historical Performance over the course of my undergraduate degree. In this field, one not only studies the music of past periods, but studies its relevance to the social, political, and cultural circumstances of its time. I believe this puts me in a unique position as a music educator, as I understand the importance of teaching students to connect musical works to their historical contexts. This is a skill that will provide them with a richer understanding of all types of music, including both classical and popular, and give them ...

About Natalie
I am a flutist and music teacher new to the state of Illinois. I received a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and Music Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2012 and a Master of Music in Flute Performance in 2015. I have experience performing in orchestras, wind ensembles, wind quintets, as well as solo music. I have appeared as a concerto soloist with the Oberlin Baroque Orchestra and the Five College Early Music Program’s Euridice Baroque Orchestra, and I have attended the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin College. My numerous years of experience as a performer and education background inform my philosophy as a music teacher.

I recently finished a second Master’s Degree in Historical Performance as a recipient of the Conservatory Dean Scholarship from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. There I learned t
o play many types of flutes, including the Renaissance flute, Baroque flute, Classical flute, and recorder. I am interested in the history of the flute, and learning to play new instruments is always an exciting challenge. I encourage my students to develop their physical skills as musicians, and also explore their own passions. Though my recent area of study has been historical music, I also have significant experience in more recent music as well.

I look forward to becoming your teacher!

My lessons are designed for you to explore music in unique ways. We will learn about technique, sound production and different styles of music.

About Maria
I am a flute performer, piano teacher and student of classical Indian music specifically in Dilruba. I graduated from my basic degree in flute performance at the Music Conservatory of Valencia, Venezuela. Recently, I am Music Business major at Florida International University and a student in Dilruba performance at the Raj Academy online program.

I am teaching a new method of piano learning that is most focused in which the children adopt a flexible attitude towards learning, create the habit of making connections, such as the ones between music and math, and apply the practice habits and memorization techniques from their piano study to other areas of their lives.

I have taught in music schools in Venezuela. I was a flute teacher and also a musical kindergarten teacher. I have participated in orchestras and music groups in Venezue
la and the US such as Youth Orchestra of Valencia, National Flute Orchestra of Venezuela, Chamber Music Orchestra of Universidad Arturo Michelena, FIU Symphony Orchestra, FIU Marching Band.

I am currently teaching as a volunteer in Mind & Melody, Inc. A non-profit organization that focused on bringing musical experience to participants with Alzheimers and dementia. The sessions are for one hour and they learn basic concepts of music and also explore different instruments through the demonstrations.

My goal is to teach music in a fun way and not only training the ear and the skills but also developing the mind and mindfulness.
