I can teach you the basics of congas, bongoes and timbales. How to play with the Clave and how to incorporate the tambourine, shakers and other fun instruments.

About Xavier
Hi there! I'm Xavier V. from Bogota, Colombia living in sunny Miami since 2008. I'm bilingual English/Spanish, proficient in French and learning Romanian. I graduated with the highest honors in Music Business from Miami Dade College in 2015, I've been working in broadcast media since after school and now working with ESPN in Coral Gables, FL.

I'm focused, patient, enthusiastic and very active! "Schedule a lesson with me now and start either speaking in Spanish or playing Drums from day 1!."

** Drum prospects read below ***

I've been playing drums since 2000. First I studied drums in Colombia with Shakira's former drummer Italo Lamboglia for 4 years and then when I moved here in US, I've kept refining my craft taking drum lessons at Miami Dade College, learning new techniques and so on.

I'm currently an independent drummer. I
play with many artists and bands as a freelancer, So I get to perform very often live in different venues all over South Florida. I also freelance at different T.V. Networks as a background drummer and percussionist for artists promoting their songs on TV shows. I have won drum contests and competitions on stores and online as well. I have recorded various records and singles with major producers and performed in different countries as a hired gun.

I've been teaching and sharing my knowledge in drums with others since I first started playing drums! I'™m a believer that the more you share, the more you learn, and overtime I've realized that the process never stops. At first I was a drum instructor at a local church in Colombia. I had 10 - 20 students in a single classroom -- It was a great experience! Then when I came to the U.S. I've been mainly instructing privately, so I have plenty of experience.

Schedule a lesson with me now and start learning the art of playing drums. I am looking forward to meeting new and eager students who really want to bring their inner music out to share with the rest of us and develop their skills to the peak of their abilities. After all, you might be the next music prodigy, but perhaps you don't know it yet! See you soon!

Xavier V.

First lesson with me is FREE!

My name is Katherine and I am in my second year at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. I study classical percussion performance and have been studying percussion for 11 years. I have a passion for teaching and wish to share what I have learned with students who have a love for percussion like I do!

I like to connect with my students on a personal level as well as a musical level, because in my eyes, a student will succeed if they are put in the best possible position to do so. With students, we will learn basic techniques of snare drum, timpani, 2-mallet, and 4-mallet percussion-- All depending on what the student wishes to study. In lessons, we will work on etudes, solos, repertoire from outsides ensembles (i.e. school band, percussion ensembles, etc.).

Rate is determined by student's level of experience.

About Katherine
My name is Katherine and I am in my third year at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. I am originally from New Jersey, and before coming to school at Frost, I was fortunate enough to perform in venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Ithaca College, Drew University, Rutgers University, as well as every major concert hall in Vienna and Budapest.

At Frost, I perform regularly with the Frost Wind Ensemble, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, Frost's New Music Ensemble (Ensemble Ibis), and the Frost Percussion Group. In March of 2018, I was fortunate enough to be featured as a soloist with the Frost Symphonic Wind Band in the performance of David R. Gillingham's "Concerto for Four Percussionists."

Though I have a passion for percussion, I also have a love for teaching. My goal is to help my students grow to
be great musicians while also having fun while studying percussion!

Katherine Fortunato is one of the most knowledgeable and competent instructors and players I've worked with throughout the years so far. I highly recommend her skills and knowledge to all levels and age groups!

My daughter took lessons with Ms. Fortunato last summer and we had no idea how much she was going to enjoy it. She came home every week talking about how much she wanted to be a musician just like her teacher when she grows up. My wife and I just wanted to give her an idea of what music was since both of us played when we were younger, but Ms. Fortunato gave her so much more than that and we are incredibly grateful. Unfortunately, we weren't able to continue lessons past the summer, but we're definitely going to start up again as soon as we can!

About Mikke
My musical journey has led me to play with so many amazing musicians and incredible bands over the years. You may find a list of recordings that I’ve played on under my discography at Better Beats Music. There’s also a selection of videos of live shows and prerecorded music videos, all of which include me on drums. Playing international festivals and tours on the big stage has been a dream come true, but teaching has also been an equally important part of my musical journey. My teaching practice helps me continue to be a better drummer and musician. More than that, I just love witnessing my students build confidence and gain a wider musical, rhythmic vocabulary, developing better skills playing the drums. I want to help my students find their musical voice by consistently working on musical goals, whether playing simple exercises, sophist
icated arrangements and everything in between.

One interesting benefit worth noting is recent scientific studies have shown that drumming reduces anxiety and stress. Now that’s therapy we all need! Rhythm is woven with in all aspects of life. Nature is full of seasonal cycles and macro/micro-rhythms. The art of drumming is an ancient practice with a fascinating history that has evolved over the ages. Drumming is also a primal expression we can all relate with. Everyone is a drummer in the dance of life. Consider the life pulsing rhythm of a heart beat or the rhythmic rise and fall of the chest from the respiratory cycle. Even while resting the lungs and heart continue to breathe and pump to a syncopated rhythm through the night. Rhythm is life.

About Jacob
Percussionist, educator, and administrative leader Jacob Gutierrez is crafting a career model of a true 21st century musician. With experience ranging from his touring percussion trio to performances at the Kennedy Center, Gutierrez is charting a career path of entrepreneurialism in tandem with award-winning musicianship.

Gutierrez is most known for his work in cultivating the percussion repertoire, creating evocative concert experiences that both entertain and educate. To this end, he and his two brothers co-founded 3G Percussion, a percussion trio that has toured in Texas and across Canada, and has been featured on multiple Texas radio and press outlets. 3G was also the anointed Guest Ensemble at the 2018 Space City New Music Festival, where he gave the world premiere of Marcus Maroney’s “Escape,” in addition to sixteen other works by
composers from around the United States, Mexico, and Germany.

Outside 3G, Gutierrez remains active in soliciting new music—he is a member of several consortiums to commission new works. His career includes performances of percussion’s most celebrated works, including Kaija Saariaho’s “Six Japanese Gardens”, Joseph Schwantner’s “Velocities”, and Alejandro Vinao’s “Book of Grooves”.

Looking to make as deep an impact as possible for the artistic community, Mr. Gutierrez also serves as Artistic Director of Space City Performing Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves as an educational resource for emerging artists. Now based in Baltimore, Gutierrez is pursuing a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Institute under renowned percussionist Robert Van Sice. Gutierrez holds a Bachelor of Music diploma in Education and Performance from the University of Houston, and a Master of Music diploma from Peabody.
