I break down music theory concepts into bite sized chunks so that students can understand how composers write what they write. I have even begun my own book on Music Theory due out in the near future. I have taught music theory to schools in Pomona and Diamond Bar. I have synesthesia (seeing colors with notes) which can help people see music theory in a different way. I teach about intervals, scales, circle of fifths, all the way up to analyzing counterpoint, episodes, fugues, preludes, sonata, sonata-rondos, symphonic scores, note spelling, clef reading, musical dictation, sight singing and more! For distances over 5 miles, I'd prefer online clientele.

About Cody

With my two Bachelor's degrees in Music Composition and Technology, I began tutoring students in piano, voice, and composition as it was part of my training. I also have experience writing and editing essays, books, and more for several independent clients. I have experience writing my own books as

I've been studying music theory for six years, and I've been a music theory tutor for three years. I currently study music theory pedagogy at the Peabody Institute, and I am a graduate assistant for the music theory department.
Music theory is a mathematical approach to music, and can successfully be taught to every type of learner. I have experience teaching student just beginning, studying musical form, counterpoint, atonality, and ear training. Music theory can be abstract, but it improves the understanding and appreciation of music to a listener, composer, and performer.

About Madeline

Hello! I'm Madeline, and I'm a vocal instructor, beginner-piano teacher, and music theory tutor. I've been a tutor since Fall 2014, and teaching private voice lessons since January 2015. I love introducing students to new repertoire, showing them a different way of looking at concepts, and helping

Madeline is a really kind and enthusiastic instructor. She helped me feel comfortable with my voice and validated my singing, granted I'm not the best singer. I think that's a really great start to singing. I was starting to see some growth in my singing because Madeline helped me become more aware of my body and singing, but I had to discontinue lessons because of certain life circumstances. Would totally recommend.

I studied Music Theory since I was in High school. To some it does take a while to grasp. There is classical theory and there is also modern/contemporary theory which differ. There are music charts and scores. There is reading and writing music. There is harmony. We will learn and practice these things and get you on your way to becoming a pro.

About Leah

Julie is top notch! She is a great educator and works to find what her students like to play and let’s them explore that while making sure they have broad exposure to many music styles. She is extremely organized and efficient and the kids love her. Choosing Julie was the best decision we made for our son. He has grown so much musically under her teaching.
Elizabeth
I am one of Julie’s adult students, and have been taking piano lessons with her for just under a year and a half. She has helped me so much and I’m so glad I found her.

Before finding Julie, I had been playing for about six months on my own with very slow improvement and no understanding of music theory. Julie has helped increase my understanding of music theory, encouraged me to play in public with confidence, and helped me learn pieces I never thought I would ever be able to play.

Julie has a very nice and warm personality and I highly recommend her for anyone looking for a piano teacher.

"Music Theory and Music Performance

Ms. Wilma's enthusiasm for life and music shines through in her instrumental playing and teaching style. She shows a strong proficiency in many music genres and can teach different kinds of musical instruments.

She's reliable, experienced, professional, and easy to be around. One of her main strengths is her ability to convey musical thoughts in a way that is meaningful, constructive and easily understood.
I really enjoyed how she have enriched my ability to think about musical concepts, discuss theories in music, and listen to different types of music."

"Keith is a an awesome teacher! I learned so much from him in the span of a few weeks. Every lesson is packed full of information and he makes sure you totally get and understand the lesson before moving onto the next chapter. I really appreciate that he corrects me whenever I make mistakes especially when it comes to staying on beat while playing the piano with the metronome. Lessons are also never boring with him. I feel that he truly cares for the musical growth of his students. Although, I'm taking a break from Take Lessons when I enroll again I will choose Keith for Piano/Music Theory."

"I have been taking lessons with Jimmy for 3 years and could not ask for a better teacher. He makes my interest grow and has a wealth of knowledge and the patience to share it. He challenges me regularly. I only wish I had found him sooner as previous instructors never had the flexibility or patience that Jimmy has.
Learning in such a relaxed environment has worked very well for me. My son has since started lessons with Jimmy as well and it has become a great experience for both of us."
