I hired Dan to teach guitar to my 13-year-old godson and I cannot be happier. Dan is everything he wrote in his profile and more. He was definitely prepared and he was patient and he really connected with my godson. After he left, my godson was extremely excited and happy that I hired Dan to teach him guitar.

Where to start about Kat??? She is simply incredible, kind, patient, caring, encouraging, creative, and did I mention she’s patient πŸ˜‰
I’ve wanted to learn to play an instrument since I was a kid (I’m 45 now) and I was always too busy to do it, but at 44 life decided it was time to put everything aside and battle leukemia. The chemotherapy, unfortunately caused neuropathy issues in my hands and feet and my sweet husband trying to find ways to strengthen my hands and fingers, gifted me a set of Ukulele lessons with Kat, and he couldn’t have chosen anyone better. Kat recorded the sweetest birthday message for me, which my husband shared when he gave me my gift 😍. I was so touched and emotional. Knowing that I had lots of restrictions to go out of my house, Kat automatically offered to come to my house to do my lessons. She is amazing!!! Thank you KatπŸ™πŸ½

UKULELE is a VERSATILE and FUN instrument with the potential to play any kind of music that you like, not just tin pan alley or kids tunes. I specialize in working with beginners who have no music background but lots of enthusiasm to play.

Learn to read music notation with your ukulele, learn to sing and strum chords so you play music with others to entertain yourself and your friends and family. I encourage participation at local open mics and uke groups for the intermediate students. For more advanced students we embark on a study of complex pieces of music and focus on performance goals.

About Laura

I have been a teacher since 1996 and a uke teacher since 2015, teaching uke to after school groups. I am a member of Houkulele, Houston's Social Ukulele Club. I have attended Uke Teacher Training courses with Kevin Carroll in Austin. I follow and use James Hill's ukulele in the classroom curriculu

Ukulele has become more and more popular with shows like The Voice and Americas Got Talent. I'm on the cutting edge and am now teaching ukulele too. Ukulele is great for beginners because it has only 4 strings. Highly Recommended because I can get students good at this instrument pretty quickly.

Ukulele students start with five subjects.

1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.

2) Scales are a part of basic music vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.

3) Chords are also basic vocabulary of the musical language.

4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the students' goals. However, I strongly encourage everyone learn to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?

5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. The student chooses what songs they want to play, guided by my suggestions; Jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, R &B - "How deep is the ocean, how high is the sky?"

A beginning student will practice ...

"FIRST LESSON was a great experience. Although my 12-year old son was hesitant about Ukulele lessons, he immediately felt relaxed with David. Of notable qualities...David was professional, very patient, redirected my son when he got off track, boosted his self-esteem with words of encouragement, and took the time to answer any questions my son had after the lesson was over. My son left excited and looks forward to his next lesson."
