I have been teaching flute for 20 years and I enjoy working with students of all ages to help them reach their goals. At the beginning level, I use the Rubank Method, Suzuki Book 1 and 40 Little Pieces. At the intermediate level, students advance to the Rubank Method (Book II), Suzuki Book II and III and beginning etudes and scales and at the advanced levels I work on tone, technique, standard repertoire and college requirements.

In lessons, I will teach students how to develop an embouchure and make sound, have proper technique, discuss equipment care, how to read music and develop note recognition, and ultimately, play music. All of this while, challenging the student to expand their creative and intellectual capacities.
The goal is to get my students playing with proper technique, so that this will carry on throughout their career and playing of the instrument. After getting some sounds out of the instrument and having decent technique, students will be assigned 1-2 songs to work on each lesson. It is the learning of music on one's own, that I believe, truly challenges the student to continue to apply information given in lessons. My ultimate goal, is to equip my students with a sustainable and enjoyable approach to practicing and performing music that leaves them wanting to play more, and doesn't burn them out.

As a woodwind specialist, I have developed my flute technique at the college level. Beginner students will learn the basic foundational skills (such as embouchure, air, posture, hand position, tonguing, and fingerings) in a fun and encouraging atmosphere where the student's needs always come first. Intermediate students can expect to be challenged with more demanding work with scales, arpeggios, etudes, and selected flute repertoire. But don't fear! I will guide you through interactive duets and listening exercises to hone your talent.
