College Performance Degree in Bass Diploma from Grove School of Music in Bass 20 years professional experience of Bass Playing
Thanks so much for taking the time to inquire about studying music with me.
Music and studying music has always been a passionate experience for me. I have been so blessed with the teachers and fellow musicians in my life. You should realize that your study of music may start with me, but it will last your entire lifetime. I hope that all of your life you will have a rewarding relationship to music and the spirit of great sounds!
I have performed in great jazz clubs in New York, on Broadway, and performing arts centers across the country. I'm currently playing in many great performing ensembles. I have put out two CD's as a leader and played on multiple CD's for other artists.
It has been my pleasure to teach privately, as well as in the classroom for 15 years. I enjoy performing many different types of music. I pri
de myself on being very open minded in terms of musical taste. Never apologize for liking what you like! I bet there is something in that music which is great. I can't wait to learn something from the music you introduce to me.
I be glad to provide a full resume to anyone who requests it.
*** Lesson Details ***
My most important goal for each student is that they get to where they want to be musically.
I want the student to be able to play the way he or she wants to play. If you want to learn to play one song, that is great! If you want to learn to play one classical etude that is just as great! If you want to learn how to play in a salsa band, bravo! I treat the desires of my students as my curriculum. Each student will receive special prep time from me each week. I pride myself in taking the time and energy to prepare for each meeting. Every time you complete a lesson, it is my hope that you are walking away as a better musician.
In the beginning I hope to find what will musically interests you the most. Usually, you might have a goal that requires you to play on a higher level than you do presently. If that is true, we might take some time to figure out a road map to get you to that place. Along the way, I'm sure you and I will learn many new concepts and techniques that aid you in becoming the bassist/musician you want to be.
And rest assured, the teacher always learns from the student...this is the best part of teaching: learning from the student.
*** Studio Equipment ***

*** Specialties *** I have been lucky to play tons of different types of music. I believe I can give musicians and aspiring musicians a deep understanding of what is most important in many different styles of music. I'm also a very good transcriber, so if there is a song you heard on the radio we can definitely play it! Ear training could be an area in which I could be of service to you as well. I have many arranging and composing credits and I would be glad to help students in this area whenever requested.
Upright Bass, Fretless and stick bass lessons for beginning students and advanced.
Knowing at the age of 5 that music was my life, by being brought up surrounded by praise music and gospel, my early exposure to music helped me to find every Instrument and style just my thing! I wanted to play everything and learn all aspects of music. I started with singing in the children's choir and then developed into piano and music theory. At the age of 12 I began to learn classical guitar, and at 15 took on various styles like Flamenco, Jazz and Rock. I graduated from High School having played in the school band achieving recognition In national Institutions Like IAJE (International Association for Jazz Education) and state band finals. I was also composing from a very early age, and at 18 released my first album (self-titled) which can still be heard and purchased today through various music outlets, since i have released over 15
albums with various ensembles and bands. In college I already knew from my previous experience that I wanted to teach and pass on the joy that music brought to my life. I studied Music Theory and Jazz and finished my degree in Music Education. I have been teaching all in all for about 14 yrs. And I have enjoyed every minute I have spent with my students learning as much from them, as them from me. I am looking forward to meeting new and eager students who really want to bring their inner music out to share with the rest of us music aficionados! and develop their skills to the peak of their abilities.
*** Lesson Details *** My teaching method ranges depending on the student. I believe in my experience that everyone learns differently, therefore everyone develops at their own pace. I try to find key strengths in each student and expose this to their advantage, using their abilities to further develop their skills, this method has shown the most promising results and students usually find themselves playing and performing just a couple of months after their first lessons. Part of my method involves a lot of performance and recital opportunities to help break any fears and inhibitions a student may bring with them. Music is about sharing, so an early exposure to this method helps to strengthen and stabilize a core acceptance of a students style and path, giving them and those close to them a very clear picture of their development and achievements.
*** Studio Equipment *** Has all instruments at both his home and college studio
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide lesson material, song charts and a progression scale. I require student to have an Instrument and recommended technique literature.
*** Specialties *** My classical training began in High School with Influences in Segovia, and Romero I studied classical for 4 yrs. and trained in Jazz and Improvisation with performances In Big Band and group ensemble. Also sang and played in the school gospel choir.
If you needed a reason
There is no question that music touches us instantly and activates images, emotions and memories that linger with us throughout our lives. As a casual listener or an obsessive music elitist, there are times in our lives when we get blown away by a sound so unique our entire body vibrates and resonates with the touch of something out of this world. I can honestly say when this happens to me I feel as close to a spiritual connection than anything I have experienced otherwise. I believe it is these exact events that have triggered my need to be completely involved in the making, performing and consuming of music. The creative process, to me, is the single obvious reason we exist in this world. We create and share, learn and interpret, build on previous ideas and inspire others to perfect upon this process. It is no doubt a very humbling experience to realize you are part of it all. During this process you come to realize how important you are as an Individual, how there is no other vessel like you in this world, nor has there ever been or ever will. You are here now and your voice, your talent, your gift is an instrument to the great choir of the human spirit. No one but you can relate this, a reason to be, to create, to give.

sually focus on learning a song of your choice or working on an original of yours. I am very personable and easygoing. Some students are more focused on electronic music, so we can work on that too!

Vir is a gifted teacher. He has taught my son guitar for more than a year. He meets my son where ever he's at in his practice, attention and interests with calm, skilled focus and intention . Vir's background as performing musician infuses his teaching with an enthusiasm and creativity of practicing his teaching. We are truly grateful for Vir.

Vir is beyond your typical vocal coach. He was a huge help on things like pitch accuracy and phrasing, but more than anything, his focus on getting me to tap into and harness my inner power has already paid huge dividends in my recordings and performances. Further, Vir is an amazing person to know and his home-studio in Berkeley is magnificent!
The electric bass is the foundation of any band. But, it is in no way limited by this role. Just within the traditional role of a electric bass player, a world of nuance exists that adds character and interest to any group. Beyond that, innovative new approaches to playing have emerged and exciting new possibilities for the instrument have made becoming an electric bass player more enticing than ever. In lessons, I help the student to realize what it is to be a bass player, and how building on past masters and current innovators can be liberating and informing. I aim to help my students appreciate the joys of playing electric bass as well as ensure that they will be an asset to any group they decide to join.
One of the great things about being a bassist is that you can play with a lot of different groups. From jazz combos and rock bands, to bluegrass bands and string quintets, the bass can be an integral part of each. For me, learning and playing many different types of music has added to the joy of being a bass player. Through teaching and performing, I hope to share my enthusiasm for the instrument.
I have had the benefit of working with great teachers throughout my bass playing career, including members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Lyric Opera, and the Chicago Jazz Ensemble. Because of this, I understand what a difference the right teacher can make. Furthermore, I know what teaching styles and techniques work best for me as a current student, so I am able to relate, and tailor the lesson to fit the student's needs.
Super cool guy. A lesson with Eli is the perfect blend of his knowledge, expertise, patience, and overall chill. 5 stars all the way.

Eli is professional, courteous, & patient. All qualities that make him a good instructor. We are very satisfied & glad our son enjoys his lessons.

If you are looking for an excellent bass teacher, look no further. You would be wasting your time. I've had a number of music instructors over the years, and I can easily say that Eli ranks at or near the top of that list.
Eli knew exactly where to start with me... he truly has an amazing ability to gauge where the student's level of knowledge is, and tailor the lesson exactly to that. Within a few lessons, I had improved my form tremendously. We covered everything that I wanted to learn, and wasted no time on things that I already knew.
What's more, a few of the instructors I have had in the past came off as a bit elitist and snobby. Eli is one of the most genuine guys around. He'll guide the lesson at your own pace, always willing to pause and show you something a second, third, or fourth time... At no point do you ever feel like you are going to ask a dumb question. This is a crucial trait of a good instructor, and Eli definitely has that going for him.
He is also quite accommodating. We typically do Skype lessons, but one there was one time that his room mate had made a slight miscalculation in the internet bill, which resulted in no internet that day. Rather than let that stop him, he actually brought his bass and amplifier on the bus, and came to my apartment to give me the lesson in person. He will make sure you get your lesson, one way or another.
My only regret is that I don't have a 6th star to give the guy! I definitely recommend him to anyone looking to learn how to play the bass guitar.
TEACHING MISSION: Capture the joy of playing music. Inspire continual playing and/or practice, regardless of student's lifestyle/career choices. I start the first lesson with a student wish list (songs, goals, etc) and every lesson we take significant steps towards the goals.
Derek is a very knowledgable instructor, easy to talk to, and I found his teaching technique is very motivating. He set realistic practice goals for the next session, which will require me to do my part, but that's the reason we show up, to learn how to play a musical instrument.
I highly recommend him.

Derek was very helpful! No time was wasted! Awesome 1st lesson!
Being an active and experienced musician gives me the necessary knowledge to know what is needed on order to become a better musician. Also having over 20 years of teaching experience allows me to tailor my knowledge to the need of every particular student. I really enjoy to transfer my knowledge and solve the unique musical problem that every student encounter during their musical path.
Bassist and composer Andrea performs extensively within the improvised music scene, across a broad spectrum of genres. His instrumental tone, sensitivity and imagination, and melodic approach to a supposedly clumsy instrument brought him to perform and record with many established musicians. Based in New York City, his work as an instrumentalist and composer can be regularly heard at the top jazz clubs in the city and around the globe.
As a current faculty member of the New York Jazz Workshop, Andrea is a dedicated educator. He has taught master classes at the National Institute of Music and the National University of Costa Rica, at the Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey and at the Olav Duun Videregående Skole in Namsos, Norway. He also served as an adjunct professor at New York University, where he graduated in 2011 with a Master
of Music Degree in Performance with a Concentration in Jazz as a Fulbright scholarship recipient.
I am truly happy to have chosen Andrea as my teacher. Not only he has an intelligent approach on how to introduce and teach the Italian language, he is also very polite, friendly and accommodating. It’s a real pleasure to learn from him!
September 9, 2019
I had my first English lesson with Andrea and it was very useful for me. I think that he pointed on my problem. He's a keen observer.
April 16, 2019
Andrea is the best. He's personable, prompt, flexible yet clear, a pleasure to work with. He has given weekly Italian lessons to me and my wife in our home. We can't recommend him highly enough.
I believe that curiosity and passion are the driving force behind learning how to play any instrument. From basic beginners to more advanced players, my approach to teaching the bass is based on developing both your ear, and a strong foundation on the instrument. Each lesson will be structured based on your personal goal and your musical tastes making the process motivating, challenging but most importantly fun. We will work on sound, tone, time feel, ear training, technique, sight reading and some other tools I have learned through my experience at Berklee College of Music and working as a professional musician.
Lets make some music :)
I am a professional musician and bass player with experience in music production and mixing. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Performance with a minor in Music Production and Engineering. I am currently teaching and playing/recording music professionally in the Boston area while working on some production and mixing projects. I teach students ranging in ability from beginner to advance. My approach to teaching is trying to make it as simple as possible so my students connect with the material and the music in a fun and stress-free process.
Currently, I play with a number of bands in Boston and in international projects.
I teach my students in my comfortable home teaching studio in Back Bay or I can travel to the student's house for an extra charge. I work with singers, guitarists, bassists, drum
mers & songwriters/producers from all skill levels and with a variety of musical goals.
Some of the musical styles I regularly teach are Rock, Pop, Latin, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul, R&B, Classical.
Also, online lessons are available upon request.
I will work towards your personal goal with the instrument, but also here is some of the material we can work on from consistent lessons:
• Sound, Tone, Accuracy, Time Feel, Groove foundation, developing interesting bass lines. • Critical listening skills while learning songs and playing with others. • Technique: Slap, Fingerstyle, Palm Muting, etc. • Harmony/Improvisation • How to record yourself and deliver studio-quality performances.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions! I hope to hear from you soon and start making great music!
Having played bass guitar for the jazz fusion trio Planetary Mindset and performing for big bands on bass guitar, my professional and academic experience will help you to become the best musician you can be. I will help you to explore your favorite styles while emphasizing technique, reading, and ear-training.
In my lessons, I make sure that I do my best to serve your interests. No matter what style of music you are passionate about, I want to help you develop that passion into musical ability. This is done through practice, analysis, reading, and listening. Even if you want to focus on metal or popular music, I will make sheet music arrangements of the music you already know and love, to better teach you how to read and interpret written music. Also, playing with recordings will often be a part of lessons to help prepare students for playing with other musicians. This holistic approach to teaching will ensure you are the best musician you can be, and not just another guitarist.
"I really enjoyed working with Jordan! His flexible approach to teaching and learning was refreshing. He was able to quickly assess my skill-level and meet
me where I was at. During our lessons, I learned what I felt was applicable, as he gears the lessons towards the student, not teaching from a one-size-fits-all lesson plan. He is open to learning new ideas, as I understood the instrument from one perspective, and he a different perspective. He was willing to listen and adjust his teaching style towards my level of understand, and I was able to quickly progress. With his knowledge and his experience, he answered so many questions I had about music. If I take lessons again in the future, I will request Jordan."
"Edward is very knowledgable and a great instructor, his lessons are easy to interpret and learn, Edward is completely thorough, not everyone is a teacher,
but Edward really is a great one. I am looking forward to our next lesson. AAAAA*****"
"Patient and adaptive
Eric's a great teacher for first time musicians. I'm about a month in and he's been nothing but responsive and helpful. I came with
a playlist of songs and he immediately picked up on my tastes and adjusted our lessons accordingly."
"John is very patient and knowledgeable"
"When I started taking lessons with Greg I didn’t know a thing about playing an instrument now a few years later I can play classic rock, Christian, Contem
porary, and bluegrass. I also feel much more confident in my ability to play in front of people and with others."
"Great teacher, would recommend!"
"Quickly assessed appropriate level to begin at and jumped right in. Really impressive musician with great communication."
"I started with Jeff in 1976 after becoming frustrated with my teacher who only taught the Carol Kaye method. Jeff was a breath of fresh air with his enco
uraging me to perfect my basic skills and expand the genres of music I listened to and played. After a few months he understood exactly the way I learned and my lessons became focused on my personal progression that was always changing at that age of my life.
What remained a constant during my years of lessons was Jeff’s caring nature, commitment to better my skills, understanding reading music, theory, and playing by ear. These skills he imparted to me continue today, over 40 years later.
Thank you Jeff!"
"Was very quick to spot the holes in my technique and theory and provided an exercise after the first lesson that has helped immensely. An astute musician
