Whether you're aiming for an A in your theory class, or needing a theory refresher, students can expect positive, intensive coaching from a degreed teacher with extensive theory education from a top conservatory.

About Heather M.
More important than my conservatory education and my experience as an educator and a performer is my passion for teaching music and acting and my undying belief that anyone can learn to be a musician and an actor. I'm currently available to teach lessons in my own St. Augustine home studio and online around the globe.

I'm a cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and a winner of its merit scholarship.
After performing with the New York and Royal Philharmonics, the New Jersey and Virginia Symphonies, the American Boy Choir and the internationally renowned opera star, Andrea Bocelli, studying opera and piano at Westminster Choir College and performance art and improvisational acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina, and appearing in shows and pageants across the east coast, I found my life'
s work in 2003 when I began teaching music.

I've successfully taught hundreds of different students since 2003, from 5-year-olds with special needs to middle-aged professional opera singers, from a professor in Saudi Arabia to a 65-year-old doctor of music, from kids of Radio Disney to students of the famed Actors Studio in New York, from busy stay-at-home parents to retirees with bucket lists, from CEOs to touring singer-songwriters.

I've created and led a workshop about singing called, "The Whole Body Singer". I've written dozens of articles about music and music education for the blog at TakeLessons.com.

My extensive knowledge of the voice has encouraged and empowered hundreds of singers and prepared many of them to win competitions, pageants and auditions, as well as roles in operas and musicals.

Having both taught myself piano and received formal training at a conservatory has prepared me to teach almost anyone how to play.
The intensive training and education that I received at Westminster Choir College in songwriting, music theory and sight reading has benefited my students at every level.

My current work as singer and keyboardist in the acoustic rock duo, Timberwood, has strengthened my knowledge of a broad range of styles and genres. I have a strong commitment to continuing my education. That's why I recently (2014) studied songwriting online with the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

In the lessons that I teach, I'm flexible, positive and encouraging. While I want my students to have fun and love music, not dread it, I expect hard work and persistence. I am caring, patient, nurturing, and compassionate. In piano lessons, I usually allow the student to choose a piece with which to warm up and then move on to technique and repertoire. In voice lessons, I usually warm up the singer and discuss technique and sight singing before focusing on song choices. Joan Frey Boytim wrote a book for voice that I like to use, and I like the Estelle Liebling exercises for the more advanced singer. Hanon exercises are a big part of my piano curriculum, and I enjoy the Bastien and Alfred books for young and old. I have used completely random songs pulled out of a piano bench and a karaoke CD for kids. I will use almost anything I can get my hands on if it means effectively teaching music.
Acting lessons consist of exercises and games that apply learned concepts, and monologue and audition coaching. Parents, siblings and spouses are always welcome to observe lessons quietly.

My 11 year old daughter loved her first lesson with Heather for both guitar and voice. Although we weren't sure how the online lessons would work out, my daughter was beaming after the first one excited to tell me all about it. It was important to us to find a guitar teacher with a warm, funny and personable personality to fit our daughter's personality awhile understanding how to communicate and educate her age range. It looks like that's exactly what we found. Heather was a great find.

Heather's upbeat, happy and excited demeanor keep her lessons fun, interesting and enjoyable! Just taking voice/musical theatre right now, but will definitely be adding a musical instrument in the future. 5 stars is not enough! I would give 10 if I could!

My son has been taking lessons from Remi for more than a year now. Remi is consistently challenging him to improve while encouraging him to love music. Remi is a wonderful instructor with both an eye and ear for detail. He can spot the way you are holding a guitar poorly and hear when you're not putting enough pressure on the strings. If you prefer using a pick, Remi has a better way to use that also, but he honestly makes a pick look more like a crutch that should be avoided when possible - this is good in my opinion. He is definitely blessed with the talents of music as well as teaching. One of our most favorite parts of each lesson is when Remi says, "Ok, now it's time to play whatever you want." - this is toward then end of the lesson, of course, just to have a little more fun after the formal part of the lesson is complete. Remi is also very patient and kind, and he loves to have fun with the music. Personally, I think a good "catch phrase" for him is as follows: "Your Remedy is Mr. Remi." I highly recommend him.

My 10 year old son loves playing little riffs on the piano but really didn't want lessons for fear it would be too much like school. Peter has been awesome about tailoring the lessons so that my son can choose the Music he likes and move forward from his place of interest. Peter is a skilled and gifted pianist, and my son is totally inspired to keep playing and put in the work to improve.

I have been working with Peter for a little over a year and although I'm moving away, I will be continuing my sessions with him over video. Over the past year, I've had the most incredible mentoring experience with Peter and would highly recommend him to students of all ages. I used to play piano as a kid and quit when I was in middle school, and Peter has helped me regain, maintain and build on my skills. He takes measures to keep me accountable in my practice and also nurtures and encourages me creatively -- his experience as a composer comes in handy and we have dope jam sessions. In addition to his musical teaching practice, Peter is also training in somatic and trauma healing modalities that infuse his work with students with care and attunement. I know some parents who work with him keep him around their kids as a life coach and buddy as well as a music teacher. He's the best and I will miss seeing him every week in person!

I currently am going to school for music and intend to get my bachelor's in music theory and composition. I've had several semesters of music theory, sight singing, ear training, piano and guitar. I also play ukulele and percussion. I offer skill practice in reading/writing music notation, theory, rhythm training, solfege singing, and performing practices. I'm extremely passionate about this subject and it is one of my favorites to teach. Music theory is about the fundamentals in music that enable you to deconstruct any piece. Furthering your knowledge in this field will help you succeed in any music talent whether that be instrumental, voice, songwriting, etc.

About Baileigh
Hello! My name is Baileigh. I've been playing guitar for 8 years now. Along the way I have learned piano, ukulele, bass guitar, and fundamentals for percussion. I'm currently going to school for music, which I hope will help me pursue a career in music composition and songwriting. Aside from music, I am very passionate about science and history. Sociology and astronomy are my strongest subjects. I'm looking forward to helping others invest in tangible knowledge that they will find exciting and useful many of times in the future.

Music theory can seem intimidating, but it doesn't have to be.
My students can expect simple, down-to-earth music theory guidance.

About Greg
For the last thirty years, from the day that I got my first electric as a teenager, to my work today as an acoustic guitarist for the band, Timberwood, and currently as a teacher of more than forty students a week, my life has been devoted to the guitar.

I'm an experienced veteran of the metal and hard rock scene of the 80's and 90's in eastern Virginia. As I grew older, I took formal lessons focusing on classical guitar, while growing to love the blues. The year that I turned 34, I quit my corporate job, took a leap of faith, helped to build and brand a new music school in Chesapeake, Virginia, working there as a full-time music school manager and guitar instructor.

I now teach an incredibly diverse group of students of every age, background and experience level in my home studio here in the fast-growing World Golf Village are
a of Saint Augustine, Florida and at the Jacksonville School of Music in Jacksonville, Florida.

My teaching philosophy is simple - teach how to play the guitar, not just how to play the songs. I pride myself on being a positive and patient teacher, dedicated to his craft and to each student.

I started taking guitar lessons with Greg at the Jacksonville School of Music nearly 5 years ago when I was 11. Since I started taking lessons here, Greg has taught me nearly everything I need to know about guitar, especially music theory, which involves many things such as chord progressions and scales. This has helped me write songs and improvise guitar solos in songs. Because of his teaching skills, I was able to learn new guitar skills very quickly. I don’t think any other guitar teacher can provide me with as much guitar knowledge as Greg does. In my opinion, he is the best and most helpful guitar teacher in Jacksonville

My primary instruments are jazz guitar and upright bass.
Growing up I have always wanted to sing but never could find a qualified teacher.

Luckily, after extensive research online for vocal teachers I discovered Kara.
I have been taking lessons with her for a while now and she's wonderful.
I always have many questions for her in my lessons and she always has a knowledgable response.

I feel like I'm progressing and finally learning how to sing properly with someone who knows their stuff.

I would highly recommend studying with her.

I believe that in order to be the best teacher to teach a student, you must be able to perform and lead by example. In addition you must have a good formal academic foundation in music with a 4 year degree from reputable college to have solid working teaching credentials.

I know from experience having a good foundation in the basics of music is extremely important to advance musically. Once a student has a solid footing, then progressing to more advanced concepts goes smoother at an individual pace. In most cases this and a good work ethic of rigorous structured practice leads to successfully performing at a high level in any music style.

Guitar is my main instrument and I teach most guitar music styles. (Rock/Jazz/Country, etc.).

I love playing Gypsy Jazz. It’s a style of jazz single handily pioneered by the French Guitarist Django Reinhardt in the 1930s which requires extreme precision and skill when playing an acoustic guitar.

I am the lead guitarist and leader of the Bleu Cats Jazz band playing this swinging variety in Jacksonville.
