I am a professional cellist and private educator based in Los Angeles, California. I have seventeen years of cello experience, including a Bachelors in Music from the prestigious University of North Texas. I earned my Masters of Music in Cello Performance at Oklahoma State University, where my research included pedagogy and performance practice.
My former teachers include Shawn Sanders (2006-2010), Nikola Ružević (-2014) and Dr. Meredith Blecha-Wells (-2016). I have performed masterclasses for artists including Phyllis Young, Bion Tsang, Dobrila Berković-Magdalenič, Johnathan Ruck, and Kari Caldwell.
My primary education used Suzuki Method materials along with exercises by Popper and Dotzauer, and later more advanced studies such as Feuillard, Duport, and Piatti. My teaching uses these resources, in addition to personalized exercises, to help my students achieve their musical goals. These goals may include repertoire which is strictly classical, contemporary, or a blend of the two. ...
About Donny
During my studies I performed with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra through the Patti Johnson Wilson Orchestral Fellowship, with Principal Guest Conductor Daniel Hege. I worked under conductors including Eric Whitacre, Benjamin Zander, Sarah Ioannides, and Gerhardt Zimmerman, among others. I performed

I am a fourth year cello performance major at the University of Georgia and have been playing the cello for over eleven years. I have experience performing and practicing in a variety of ensembles and genres (i.e. orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz, rock/jam bands, bluegrass, pop). I plan to incorporate music theory and ear training into lessons to help my students become more familiar with their instruments and repertoire. I want to encourage innovation and creativity in each of my students so that they can feel comfortable approaching any musical opportunity.

Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. My lessons always start out with the basics! We start out by learning notes by plucking the strings and then the bow is soon incorporated. The goal is to eventually learn all the notes on the fretboard and also learning how to read and play chords. As the student progresses ...

I used to play French Horn 40 years ago. Bass clef is all new to me."

He is super patient with little ones yet also challenges them to grow. He’s able to connect with them personally and help inspire them to be better musicians. Even when things might have gotten a little bit chaotic Gabriel remains calm and was able to redirect my little one. I would highly recommend him"

Although the causes of handedness are not fully understood, about 10% of the population is left handed or ambidextrous according to Dr. M.K. Holder, a researcher and specialist on handedness. Many left handed students wonder if they will need a specialized instrument in order to learn to play …
