Confidence in acting is all about finding your own process, discovering the best things that work for YOU. Whether you have an audition you're working towards, a job you're preparing for, or you want to flex your acting muscle through new material, let's hash it out!

When I was cast as a supporting lead in an HBO show years ago, I had no idea what I was doing. I came from a theatre background and had never been on a set before - I learned by watching and asking the actors around me who had been doing it for years. Now, after nearly a decade in this business, I've found some things that help me that can hopefully help you. This should be fun! Feel free to check out my IMDB page for a more detailed overview.

About Meg

I graduated from Northwestern University where I studied Acting and Music Theatre. I have spent nearly a decade working in theatre, TV, film, and commercials. Credits include: HBO's Boardwalk Empire, Peacock's Mr. Mercedes, NBC's Mysteries of Laura, ABC's Nashville, and FX's American Horror Story.

I teach all kinds of acting, and have for over 40 years, but I specialize in stage acting, on-camera acting, acting for the face, voice acting, comedic acting, physical acting, improv, script analysis, monologues, audition prep, audition videos and voice over auditions.

For Voice Acting, we'll cover the various elements including: pitch; loudness; speed; rhythm; tone; prosody; variables and variations; character elements; use of dramatic and comedic pauses; emotion; enunciation; emphasis; pace; intervals; nasal continuents; u-glide; musicality; timing, and more.

We'll study mic technique, what to do and what to avoid. We'll study how to prepare your script, including identifying and using key words, and script shorthand. We'll explore what to expect in the studio, how to work with a producer, how to work with a sound engineer, and how to work with other voice actors.

We'll apply the elements of Voice Acting to the study of voice artistry, video game voiceovers, commercial ...

Dennis Johnson is extremely passionate and knowledgable about every topic relating to acting and voiceovers. His classes are friendly, warm, funny, inviting and are always very positive. Although his classes may be challenging, he focusses on preparing his students for the real world and is passionate about putting his student's best foot forward. A few things he covers in classes are improvisation, analyzing monologues and analyzing film. He is reliable and flexible with busy schedules and makes an effort to teach life lessons as well. I feel extremely lucky to have found him and to have access to his classes and film and voice over editing skills. He is a gem.
Christine
Working with Dennis has been incredibly beneficial to my growth as an actor. His ability to dissect a scene, work through the nuances of the character, and the sub-text and communicate this on camera with techniques that set you above the amateur actor, has helped me tremendously and opened up not only opportunities but my confidence as well. Dennis approaches the actor as a whole and understands there are parts to this whole and each part—the body, the speech, the mind—is just as important as the next. I wouldn't be the actor I am today if it weren't for Dennis.
Laura M.
There aren’t enough good words to say about acting coach, Dennis Johnson, of Rollicking Productions. Personally, I have had the pleasure of working with Dennis for 5 years and his commitment, knowledge and ability to guide his students to top performance levels in the acting world is unbelievable. With Dennis’ help I was able to win for the State of NH two years in a row for the nationwide Poetry Out Loud competition, land several lead roles in community theater, gain my own teaching experience in his acting workshops, etc., but more importantly I gained a whole new level of confidence that I didn’t have before. Working with Dennis was one of the best decisions I've made and the skills that I learned from him still compliment everything I do today.

No detail too small or not discussed... in a good way... from lighting, to microphone placement, to clothing, to make-up, to how to mentally prepare before hand, to the content and the delivery. This is the beginning of what I hope to be a long term journey to continuously hone my skills. She is down to earth, real, genuine, kind and funny. Money very well invested."

I have long realized it takes me more time to develop than other students. After working with Stephanie, eventually I was able to start social dancing. Eventually, we also worked together on performance classes with other students. These were all wonderful experiences for me. Stephanie is very dedicated and passionate about dance. How to Become a Stage Actor: What Theater Students Need to Know

I’ve said it once and I will say it again, we are all actors by nature! Anyone can be an actor if given the proper tools and training.  There are ways to become a stronger stage actor and as performers we should always be learning and growing. When speaking to new actors, I often quote Michael Shurtleff, the author of my favorite acting text, “Audition”. He once said, “Use what you know. Don't worry about what you don't know.”  This couldn’t be more true! Acting is reacting and …
