My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands. It all one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!

I've been teaching bass since 2009.
Some of my favorite bassists are Flea from RHCP's, Les from Primus, Cliff Burton from Metallica, Victor Wooten, John Deacon from Queen, and many more.
I use Fender, Ibanez, Flea bass, Tech 21 SansAmp, JBL, and Ampeg.
There is not just one book that will give you everything you need so I teach from a number of books by different companies like Alfred, KJOS, Hal Leonard, song books, to individual pieces from music notes. I also create, print, and email custom lessons created on a program in my Mac.
It usually takes around 2 - 3 months for beginner to start catching on and be able to play well. It really depends on how much the student practices. Some people catch on faster because they are naturals and others have to work a little harder. It's my goal to help each student become the musician they desire to be. My philosophy is to teach my students to be smart musicians. What I mean by that is, it does you no good if you can play a song but ...

David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.
David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!
About David
David is a successful singer/songwriter/guitarist out of Fairfax, VA. He has a bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in composition from Salisbury University, where he also studied jazz and classical guitar . In the 25 years he has been performing (20 of those professionally) and playin

We will play whatever the student would like to learn! I use the Hal Leonard Bass Method with students to give them a solid understanding of the fundamentals of bass guitar playing. I encourage my students to always find new songs that they would like to learn so we can go over them together.

In a very short time, Kim has helped me to expand my ability as a musician. I played in a band for a few years, and I feel like only now through her guidance am I really starting to understand my instrument.
She has a great way of layering knowledge to help it stick, and is very patient. I highly recommend her."

I have had the pleasure of taking bass lessons from Ian while learning a variety of different styles of playing the instrument, and he has my highest recommendation!"
