When it comes to the basics, practice makes perfect. I will help you find the topics you're struggling with and from there we will walk through examples until you completely understand how to do it on your own.

About Morgan
My friends and family often call me a professional student. I completed my associate degree within my last two years of high school through dual enrollment. Throughout my school years, I've had many experiences with professional tutors and I paid attention to how they helped me learn. I've been able to take what was learned in the support centers and tutor my fellow classmates at a pace best for them. Now I would love to keep sharing my knowledge. If given the chance, I will do everything within my abilities to better the students under my care.

I love to learn and if I can pass on my hunger for knowledge to others, that would make me proud. Having an excitement like mine can be infectious. If I can get a student fully interested in learning, then a wonderful future will open for him or her. If anything, I'd enjoy being a tutor for the
chance to review my knowledge and give someone a helping hand.

As a Math teacher, I believe that an important part of the teacher role is to conduct each student's learning progress and support it. I also believe that interpersonal interaction, exploration and enjoyment should be an important part of the learning process, so my lessons usually progresses through student research, conversations, and achieving new knowledge by using their existing knowledge.

About Adina
This days I am working as a teacher in an after school program in Brookline. I have recently finished all of the requirements for my second BA in Mathematics education and teaching certificate . My first degree is in Industrial Engineering and Management.
After working for several years in the industry as an information system analyst I decided to combine my knowledge of Math and Engineering with my passion for teaching and working with children and completed a unique education certification program for graduates called “Mabatim” which includes a second BA in Education and a teacher certification. My teaching experience includes student teaching of Mathematics at the middle school and high school level and two years of working as a teacher working with new immigrants and children from disadvantaged backgrounds between the first and six
th grade.

My math lessons are unique in that I develop a connection with students that allow them to feel comfortable telling me "I don't understand." This is often the hardest barrier that parents believe their child has when being taught, and I'm often warned by the parent before I arrive that the student fakes understanding around his teachers or other tutors. But being 23 years old allows me to be a teacher and a friend at the same time and I feel that this smaller age gap between student and teacher is what makes them feel comfortable opening up to me, which they do with ease. After tutoring over 30 students in math ranging from middle school arithmetic to college calculus 2 to adults taking qualifying exams, I have been confidently able to identify exactly how the students are processing their math assignments just by watching them try to solve a single problem. After that, I just focus on correcting their way of thinking. My goal of tutoring is for the students to not need my help ...

About Emily
"It's not about learning, it's about understanding."

Hi! My name is Emily and I am 23 years old. I am originally from Massachusetts, where I earned my degree in physics at Boston College before moving to central Florida in August 2017. I took off with just what I could fit in my car and drove from Massachusetts to Orlando to try a new life on my own. Tutoring was an accidental passion that definitely saved me. I was messaged around midnight by a worried mother telling me her son received a 0 on his last chemistry exam, and that the teacher gave him a day to take it home to retake for partial credit. At this time I had been applying and applying to jobs with no luck so I jumped on the opportunity and messaged her back right away. The next night I was at their house for hours helping their son understand the material and retake the exam. H
e received the full partial credit on the test. After 1 more session with him the folllowing week, he had another exam. He received a 100%! His mother was in shock and at that moment I realized I had something special. I loved the nights we spent fighting through material just as much as I loved the nights where everything just clicked for him. Since then, I have tutored over 30 students in subjects including (not limited to) middle school math, pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, college algebra, pre-calculus, liberal arts math, arithmetic, college calculus 2, biology, AP chemistry, AP physics, college physics, and test prep including SAT, GED, GRE, GKT, and ASVAB. I attribute my success to not focusing on memorization because problems memorized are problems forgotten! Instead, I teach the students how to teach themselves how to start a problem because even complex problems are just series of simple steps disguised by complicated word problems and extraneous information. It's not about learning, it's about understanding. So far I have been blessed with students who will openly tell me "I do not understand" which is an awesome thing to say! It gives me a great place to start: from the beginning. (It's okay if you don't say you don't understand...I will still know ;) ) Often students will just say they do not know how to start a problem, but this hides a deeper dependence on memorization and lack of conceptual understanding. The only way to teach true understanding is to let go of the conventional concept of memorization. Thank you for taking the time to read my bio and I hope to hear from you soon!
Best,
Emily

Our concept of numbers shapes our world. Why do ancient years go from BC to AD? We needed separate labels for "before" and "after", which weren't on a single scale.

Why did the stock market set prices in increments of 1/8 until 2000 AD? We were based on centuries-old systems. Ask a modern trader if they'd rather go back.

Why is the decimal system useful for categorization? You can always find room for a decimal between two other ones, and progressively classify an item (1, 1.3, 1.38, 1.386).

Why do we accept the idea of a vacuum, empty space? Because you understand the notion of zero. (Maybe true vacuums don't exist, but you get the theory.)

Why is anti-matter or anti-gravity palatable? Because you accept that positives could have negatives that act in opposite ways.

How could the universe come from nothing? Well, how can 0 be split into 1 and -1?

Our math vocabulary shapes what we're capable of thinking about. Multiplication and division, which eluded geniuses a few thousand ...
