Test preparation lessons I have held so far include SAT, GED, GRE, GKT, and ASVAB exams, where the students ranged from 15-50+ years old. Most of my test prep sessions have seemingly been focused on math or science but in reality are focused on problem-solving and test-taking skills, hidden within math and science problems. Learning the material is only the first part of test preparation. Knowing the content, however, does not necessarily guarantee success because many students blank on tests, have test anxiety, or run out of time. The way to solve this problem is NOT to repeat similar problems over and foster memorization because anything that is just memorized can be forgotten on test day. Rather, the way to solve these test-day problems is to ingrain the thought processes into the student's head using problems that may seem vastly unlike one another but are in fact teaching this same concept. When giving a student similar problems as practice, their brain will revert to "what did I

About Debbie

Tutoring has been a major part of my life for over 7 years and I love it. Seeing the excitement in a student's eyes when they finally get something they've struggled with is why I do what I do. My strength is in getting to know the way a student learns best and finding techniques that support that

I have earned my BA and an MA in education which allows me a deeper understanding of not only how to teach, but how to learn. I want to pass on this knowledge to you or your child. I have spent my life developing good study skills and have used them successfully at all levels of my education as an international baccalaureate and AP student and as an undergraduate and graduate student. I have also taught international students the skills necessary to succeed in a college environment in English for academic preparedness classes which not only teach the language but the culture of the university.

IF A TIME IS NOT LISTED AS AVAILABLE, PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE. I CAN PROBABLY ACCOMMODATE YOU :)

Sara is very nice! She has a lot of patience to help us during the class and also after the class. (I like her so much because she is very beautiful and funny!!! )

I took professor Sara's ESL writing class in SCAD in 2020 and got a great improvement. Each lesson of Sara is carefully prepared. Although my class is at 8 am in the morning, she looks energetic every day. This improves my motivation for learning. In addition, she will carefully review every assignment I handed in and make suggestions for revision. The ten-week course I spent with her was intense and interesting. If you are looking for a professor who can help you improve your English skills, I will definitely recommend Professor Sara!

Not a good experience. First day we were set up for lessons she canceled and asked for a different time/day. When that lesson came time she was late and couldn't accommodate the lesson but never contacted to reschedule. A week later for the 2nd lesson, I purchased she sends a text a few hours before the appointment claiming that she talked to another teacher about my grandson and felt she couldn't help him. Way too inconsistent to be offering any lessons. What an awful experience. Time to move on (eye-roll).

Amber is simply the best. She has a knack for determining my level and knows how far to push me in practices and recommending homework. Her experience serves her well. She is inspiring, motivating and blunt which goes a long way because she is very directed at her constructive criticism and points that need to be improved.

"My family and I appreciate Natalie so much. I recently PASSED my Reading (Score:44) and Math (Score:52) section in the CBEST exam!!! She has been very patient with me throughout the entire process of reviewing for my CBEST exam. She has helped and guided me all the way. She has provided me excellent materials that I used to help me review for my exam. The first time I took the test, I did not pass, so Natalie provided me additional exercises on material covered between sessions; it is an added plus and surely accelerated my overall progress. She would always remind me to always take my time, read the test questions carefully and double check my answers! During the exam I did exactly what she said and it worked!!! Everything that was on the CBEST exam are the ones we reviewed together. Natalie, you are just THE best - thank you so much for all that you did for me! I will miss our review sessions! I highly recommend her - anyone who would hire her will be in great hands!"

"We originally solicited Rod's support in order to help get our 8th grade daughter up to speed in math class. With high school rapidly approaching, we wanted to ensure that her footing was solid for the rigors of the high school curriculum. As the New York State testing approached, we asked Rod to take some time in the weekly sessions to work on test-taking skills and to do a bit of brushing up on skills that my daughter may run into trouble with. I had my daughter take last year's 8th grade state test (which I found a copy of online), and asked Rod to review her work and help address the learning gaps. Rod's approach was to help my daughter recognize that she actually did know how to do many of the questions that she answered correctly, and with helping her reframe some of the questions, she was able to recognize that the test was not in fact, blind siding her which did wonders for her confidence. Rod spent ample time discussion stress reduction techniques, both before and after the test. As an incredibly supportive gesture, he followed up with us after each of the test days in order to inquire as to how she did, and show she was feeling overall. Rod's contribution definitely helped alleviate her anxiety and bolstered her confidence. By the end of the test she felt confident that she had performed to the best of her ability."
