Here's how I help teach songwriters:

-Chords/Progressions: I help instrumentalists get out of ruts they're stuck in and find new chord progressions. OR if you're new, I'll show you what's out there. I will also show you commonly used progressions so you know what's used. We will analyze successful songs to see what the writer did and then attempt to emulate those ideas in writing exercises
-Melodies: We'll learn what makes a good melody, and we'll write melodies that are good hooks.
-Lyrics: We'll talk about what makes good lyrics and learn to write good lyrics by modeling lyrics after other songs and writing and rewriting your own lyrics.
-Music Business: If you're interested as well we can learn how the music business works for songwriters.

About Jaxon
*See further below for lesson details!*

Jaxon the Guitarist: I am a Doctoral Guitar Major at USC studying classical guitar. I have been playing the guitar for over 20 years and teaching for 15. My main style is classical, and due to the technical training I have had since I was very young, it has been very easy for me to learn and master other styles such as Flamenco, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Country. I have a passion for performing and have played hundreds of solo and ensemble concerts. As a classical performer I have won prizes in numerous competitions, including the Pacific Guitar Competition, San Francisco Guitar Competition, Sierra Nevada Competition, and the OSAA Oregon State Competition. I have played concerts all over the United States as well as in Spain and Mexico. As a performer of other styles I have played in many orig
inal and cover bands and have won high school and University level battle of the bands competitions. I was a Northwest regional finalist in Guitar Center's "King of the Blues" competition as well. I recently won a Fulbright Scholarship to study Spanish and Flamenco Guitar in Seville, Spain for 2015 and 16.

Jaxon the Teacher: I really love spreading the knowledge I've learned over the years about the guitar, bass guitar, songwriting, music theory, and everything music related to my students. I find a huge sense of fulfillment in seeing my students understand and enjoy learning and making beautiful music. I have a high level of knowledge and skills that I am very willing to use to teach students from the most beginner to the most advanced. Former students of mine have achieved lofty goals ranging from making it into a music program at the college level to winning their school's talent show to being accepted into their school's jazz band.

*** Lesson Details ***
My curriculum is based around YOU. I push my students hard, but I make sure they're always having fun and enjoying playing. I like to get my students playing real songs as fast as possible so they can see results immediately and get excited!

Online Lessons: I am a specialist in online teaching. and I go the extra mile to make sure you get your money's worth. Online lessons with me include personalized instruction, PDF's, play-along recordings, and instructional video recaps to help you practice.

Children: I am trained and specialized in teaching children fingerstyle guitar. I have taught hundreds of kids in schools, privately, and in groups over the years. The method I use is proven to give kids the best possible start to music and maximize their potential. If you have children and you want them to learn good technique and music principles through guitar, you don't need to look any further.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have stools, music stands, and an amp here so all you need to bring is your guitar!

THE BEST!!! We are so blessed to have met Mr. Spencer. My 10 year old son is so engaged in the lesson and the practice at home because Mr. Spencer is so encouraging!! Mr. Spencer is so generous with his time and talent. He helped us choose an appropriate starter set for my son and set it up for us at our house. We are so grateful for that! We are excited to see where drums lead for our son with Mr. Spencer's guidance!

GREAT INSTRUCTOR!! I am 48yo and was apprehensive about trying to learn something new at my age. I've had three lessons thu far and have been enjoying this to the fullest. Rufus keeps the lessons fun and interestng by adding different assignments for me to work on throughout my week. The key is to practice; which, I have embraced and I actually like. I bought a drum set after my 2nd lesson. Rufus came to my house to help me set everything up and tune my drums. He blessed my drums by playing for a few minutes while I stood back and grinned like a 10yo. I jumped on next hoping my drums would sound the same as when he played (they didn't). But that's okay, they will someday. I will be a student with him for a while!!

I have taught voice lessons to over 250 private students since graduating from Berklee college of Music in 1999. I have extensive experience performing and recording professionally. I teach all levels whether it's for the shower or for the stage. I find that fear is often the biggest limiting factor no matter what level the student is at. Let me help you to release that fear and reach for the stars!

About Carey
I have taught over 250 private voice students in Boston, CT, New York City, and Lakewood Ranch, FL. I specialize in contemporary styles ranging from musical theater, to pop, to blues, to R&B and beyond. I graduated with a professional music degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. I performed professionally for 15 years: as a wedding singer, on tour as a backup singer, in a musical at Carnegie Hall, with a big band at the Rainbow Room, at the Bitter End debuting my CD of original music, as a house studio vocalist for a NYC recording studio, and more. I have tons of great references available!

It's truly wonderful to see our daughter having fun doing something she loves, and it takes a special teacher to make that happen with kids. Highly recommend.

For audio engineering, I go over audio recording techniques and the tools & equipment needed to produce a professional sounding song.

I enjoy imparting my knowledge of music to others and I demonstrate that enthusiasm in my teaching style. I love relating what I'm teaching a student to his/her learning style. Figuring out how someone learns is a key component to my method and I'm a better instructor because of it.

This teacher is impossible to get a hold of. Tried leaving several voicemails and text messages. He has a couple different phone #'s. Don't know which, if any, is the active # to use. No response from him ever. Couldn't reschedule because of this. Plus he lied and said I never contacted him. Now I am out a ton of money for lessons I wasn't able to use. Very greedy. I am not happy.

Ron's so great at what he does, he could make the sun freeze. I am a classically trained musician with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Florida State University. With a total of 19 years of experience - 11 of those years as a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra - I am capable of teaching multiple styles of music to all ages and proficiency levels. Also a multi-instrumentalist, I have the ability to teach other stringed instruments such as the viola, cello, double bass, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele.

About Toni
I am a professional Double Bass player with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Florida State University. As a proficient multi-instrumentalist, I am able to teach all stringed instruments, such as the violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele. With experience coaching and mentoring students who have a passion for songwriting, it has helped them become effective, dynamic, and knowledgeable songwriters.

I teach strings to students of all different ages and proficiency levels. I am a classically trained musician with 19 years experience, with 11 of those years as a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. My competency and versatility as a musician has given me the opportunity to work with children in the public school systems, after school programs, recreational centers, local events, and statewide competitions a
nd conventions.

Every instrument has a unique timbre, so I teach students what their chosen instrument's role is and what it's specific sound is used for. I believe that "practice makes progress," so I encourage each student to practice consistently and efficiently. By applying foundational techniques during practice and performance, it will aid in their continual growth and progress as a musician.

Depending on the goals and preference of the student - no matter the instrument - I highly encourage each of my students to learn to read music/chord sheets, understand and maneuver their instruments fluidly, and challenge themselves to pursue music in any and every way they can.

I firmly believe that learning technique and theoretical knowledge is essential to learning any instrument and any style. Focused practice sessions and learning how to listen actively instead of passively will shape a well-rounded musician, and as the teacher, achieving this with every student is my goal and my passion.

I very much look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
