More important than my conservatory education and my experience as an educator and a performer is my passion for teaching music and acting and my undying belief that anyone can learn to be a musician and an actor. I'm currently available to teach lessons in my own St. Augustine home studio and online around the globe.

I'm a cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and a winner of its merit scholarship.
After performing with the New York and Royal Philharmonics, the New Jersey and Virginia Symphonies, the American Boy Choir and the internationally renowned opera star, Andrea Bocelli, studying opera and piano at Westminster Choir College and performance art and improvisational acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina, and appearing in shows and pageants across the east coast, I found my life'
s work in 2003 when I began teaching music.

I've taught hundreds of different students since 2003 with great success, from 5-year-olds with special needs to middle-aged professional opera singers, from a professor in Saudi Arabia to a 65-year-old doctor of music, from kids of Radio Disney to students of the famed Actors Studio in New York, from busy stay-at-home parents to retirees with bucket lists, from CEOs to touring singer-songwriters.

I've created and led a workshop about singing called, "The Whole Body Singer". I've written dozens of articles about music and music education for the blog at TakeLessons.com.

My extensive knowledge of the voice has encouraged and empowered hundreds of singers and prepared many of them to win competitions, pageants and auditions, as well as roles in operas and musicals. When a student comes to me in need of voice coaching, my job is to get to the root of mental blocks, to reveal why and how she's not singing at her optimum.

Both teaching myself piano and receiving formal training at a conservatory has prepared me to teach almost anyone how to play.

The intensive training and education that I received at Westminster Choir College in songwriting, music theory and sight reading has benefited my students at every level.

My current work as singer and keyboardist in the acoustic rock duo, Timberwood, has strengthened my knowledge of a broad range of styles and genres. As a lifelong learner, I have a strong commitment to continuing my education. That's why I studied songwriting online with the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2014.

In the lessons that I teach, I'm flexible, positive and encouraging. While I want my students to have fun and love music, not dread it, I expect hard work and persistence. I am caring, patient, nurturing, and compassionate. In piano lessons, I usually allow the student to choose a piece with which to warm up and then move on to technique and repertoire. In voice lessons, I usually warm up the singer and discuss technique and sight singing before focusing on song choices. Joan Frey Boytim wrote a book for voice that I like to use, and I like the Estelle Liebling exercises for the more advanced singer. Hanon exercises are a big part of my piano curriculum, and I enjoy the Bastien and Alfred books for young and old. I have used completely random songs pulled out of a piano bench and a karaoke CD for kids. I will use almost anything I can get my hands on if it means effectively teaching music.

Acting lessons consist of exercises and games that apply learned concepts, with an emphasis on stage acting and Meisner technique, as well as monologue and audition coaching.

Parents, siblings and spouses are always welcome to observe lessons quietly.

About Chelsea:
Chelsea made her operatic debut in 2005 in Italy with Operafestival di Roma in their main stage production of Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. While in Rome, Chelsea also was featured in Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. She has also been involved in other concert and oratorio works such as Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No.5, Rutter's Requiem, and Mozart's Requiem.

Along with her classical training she has performed in many musicals such as The King and Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, and œThe Boyfriend. Chelsea is an honored NATS (National Association for the Teachers of Singing) competitor, Peabody Scholarship recipient, and Bland Music Scholarship recipient. Recently, Chelsea B. worked with the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra on their spring and summer concert series. When she's not singing, you may find Chelsea enjoying a run through the neighborhood, or enjoying some time with her cat CJ.

Chelsea holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees form the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University.

I have had the pleasure of working with Chelsea for the last six years at a summer music camp that is sponsored by my church in Peachtree City Georgia. Chelsea is one of our Artists-in-Residence and leads vocal workshops, coaches vocalists, performs with the praise team, and also performs solo material in her presentations. This past year she served as worship leader where she directed over 100 children (ages 5-11), teen and adult volunteers in vocal worship. Her enthusiasm for music is infectious and she brings a fresh approach to the music that is presented at each encounter. She is able to establish a rapport with students of all ages making them comfortable and engaged in the music.
During our week-long camp, Chelsea and other professional musicians present a beautiful concert for the public where classical works are performed. Chelsea treats the audience to sacred and spiritual works and has developed a devoted following of patrons who return annually to hear her perform.

Chelsea has been teaching my 14 year old grandson now for over 2 years. She is actually "gets him" where many teachers don't and she manages to bring the absolutely best out in him. She clearly loves her work and it shows so much so that after many years of playing the piano, more off than on recently, I decided to take lessons with her too. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it may be selected from the western classical, musical theatre, and popular rep based on the student's goals and learning needs with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

So far, I look forward to each lesson! Troy is very kind, yet very helpful and has helped me target on my personal goals with opera while also learning more each time! I highly recommend him. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in voice or only experience in voice ( as my experience is theatre and musical theatre), he is patient in helping you achieve the goals set. I cannot wait to continue lessons with him!

I had the pleasure of recording an album of songs with a trio of local musicians, Joshua Bowlus on piano, Gary Starling on guitar and Rebecca Zappen on violin. It was a collection of tunes that I had sung through the past years on gigs and with home recordings with my husband, Tony Tamburello on piano. The album was a big hit with my friends and family and me !! I sent it to a radio jock in Montreal also and he played it on the air. Needless to say, Gina was the master mixer at the controls !! Love her !!!

I contacted Elisabeth Lohninger to improve my flexibility to move between registers and to strengthen my upper range and I was very happy with the results. I immediately felt at ease sitting by her beautiful grand piano and was impressed by her knowledge of vocal technique, sound production and anatomy of the voice. She tailor-made a vocal exercise regime for me that was specifically designed to address my needs and I was astounded how quickly I improved and was able to move freely between registers and access my falsetto. I had an audition coming up and was extremely nervous. Elisabeth helped me unpack some of the technical issues I had with my audition piece (musical theater) and gave me specific exercises to strengthen the weak parts of the song. I take singing seriously. I can be a tough teacher because I push my students beyond what they believe they can do. Students that stick with me for an extended period of time will see a lot of improvement in their skills.

About Amy
I consider myself a lifetime student of music and voice. I never stop learning which allows me to bring in new techniques and ideas to my students. Usually within the first three or four lessons my students notice a vast difference in their singing technique.

I love watching my students progress and gain confidence throughout consistent lessons with me. I absolutely take my job seriously while making it fun for the both the student and myself. Seeing my students break through their own barriers and fears makes what I do worth the hard work!
