In May, 2016, I graduated from Valencia College with an A.A. in Piano Performance. In 2014, I started teaching piano lessons for beginners. I taught for two years in an after school program at a middle school in Orlando. Now I teach private students.

A typical lesson with me looks something like this:
The student plays what they have practiced, and we work on any difficult areas and techniques for playing better.
We discuss the next lesson, making sure the student understands everything.
I expect my students to practice every day, just as I do. It is the only way to become proficient.

About Melody

Hello. My name is Melody Cook. I began learning to play the piano when I was five. After pursuing other interests for several years, I decided to study piano performance at Valencia college, where I completed my degree in May of 2016 with a 4.0 GPA. I continued my education at UCF and graduated

Gina’s wonderfully encouraging and is helping me take the skills I already have and fine tuning them. She’ll listen to me sing a song the whole way through and then we’ll go back and work on specific sections. She gives good pointers and can give me vocal exercises to try to fix a specific problem. I like that we use YouTube karaoke videos because I can choose any song with a karaoke version and I can use the same video to practice at home as I do with her.

This I say because Remi has an extraordinary ability to understand the student (virtues and opportunities for improvement) and uses this to create a teaching method that helps the student to exploit their skills without leaving behind the technique and efficiency required to learn to play an instrument."

"Geoff is a phenomenal piano instructor. I have been using him as a coach for over 6 months to help me improve on my skills at playing classical music. Geoff has in-depth knowledge of musical history and theory which provides excellent context for how the music should be played and why it was written the way it was. He is also a master at playing piano and, therefore, can play whatever you are trying to learn the way it is supposed to be played. He can listen to me play an entire piece and remember everything I did that was either wrong or in need of improvement (and that is a very, very long list to remember!). He provides feedback in a direct but very respectful way. He also understands that I have a life and career outside of piano. Therefore, he never gets annoyed that I haven't practiced as hard as I perhaps should have. He goes at my pace but also explains what is necessary for me to achieve new levels. He is laid back and easy to talk to. I strongly recommend Geoff as an instructor!"

Everything You Need to Know About Open Handed Drumming

It’s known by a few names: “Open handed drumming,” playing with a “left hand lead,” playing “uncrossed,” or simply “open.” Whatever you decide to call it, open handed drumming is a way of setting up and playing your drum set so that one hand doesn’t cross over the other while playing the time-keeping cymbals (like the hi-hats, or ride). It can equate to playing time with your non-dominant hand, and it also can mean playing the hi-hats or ride cymbals in unusual lo …
