Viola Lessons in Cortez. Amazing Teachers.

During the first lesson we will get acquainted and you can tell me about your history with the instrument and what you would like to learn. Then I will come up with fun technique building exercises so you can play with ease. Then we usually work on a goal piece. For the piece I will give you practice methods and ways to play through the pieces with a beautiful tone. Viola is fun and expect to have a great time!

Experienced Music teacher of 8 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of their instrument and theory skills. I specialize in all styles. Typically, I use a variety of method books to pick from to meet the needs of the students. I also have many tools available to use during lessons.
My students have gone on to NYSSMA and on to college auditions successfully!

Beginners: One 30m session per week
Enthusiastic Beginner: Two 30m sessions per week

Clarification about level (please read to assess yourself)

Beginner: No experience, interested in trying it out and seeing if it's for them
Enthusiastic Beginner: No experience, motivated to improve
Intermediate Student and/or Advanced Experienced Beginner Students: Students who have either already taken lessons, or perhaps are students enrolled in school programs in orchestra who have experience playing and want to add to their playing

All students will be coached on proper technique, posture, scales, arpeggios, and etudes depending on skill level as these are all the important fundamentals of playing. Not every lesson will include all of these points in great detail, but some lessons could focus only on these details if need be. The student's personal repertoire is the main study of every lesson with which I can offer coaching in bowings, technique, and interpretation.

I approach the viola with the same integrity of sound that I approach violin technique. In order to build your playing from the ground up, I seek to give students the strongest technical foundation possible so that they can achieve all their musical aspirations.

Students of mine study standard concertos, Bach, Suzuki materials, and scales. They also work on fiddle and jazz tunes, improvisation, and pop songs. The most important thing is to find what lights a spark in each student!
