During the past 10 years, I have started coaching interested persons in writing songs the way I do: I start with a melody line that pops into my head by the way I fuel myself in expectancy for new tunes and moods to express. My method uses my guitar, so if you play guitar, but feel stuck and not able to write songs, I should be able to help. I use chordal arrangements to bring forth a tune; then, if it feels like there must be lyrics, I write what words are somehow connected to the musical mood I have created. Within a couple of lessons, according to your desire, you should be able to craft an interesting song. I can also help you come up with a mood and melody line to poems/lyrics that as yet have no music.

Hi there! I am a professional jazz, pop, and folk vocalist, pianist, and songwriter with a bachelor's degree in Jazz Voice from the University of North Texas. I firmly believe that learning more about music should be a fun, nurturing, and open-minded process (this isn't Whiplash, folks). No musician is exactly alike, so I work hard to create custom and unique curriculum for each of my students to ensure that they love the music and skills that they are working on!
My teaching incorporates many elements including healthy vocal technique, songwriting, improvisation, music theory, piano, and Finale music notation software. Whatever you're interested in, let's explore it!
I teach voice and songwriting in jazz, pop, folk, country, and R&B styles. I also teach piano and jazz theory. Contact me if you have any further questions; I'll gladly answer them all! I look forward to making music with you!

I have extensive experience writing with some of the best songwriters on music row, and my songs have been featured in American Songwriter Magazine. I co-write and perform weekly in Nashville, and love to share what I have learned with developing songwriters!
If a student is interested in working on both their voice and their songwriting skills, lessons can be designed to incorporate both. I address form, lyric writing techniques, melody enhancement, and commercial appeal when teaching songwriting lessons. Students will learn the fundamentals and will bring in songs for critique!
Many of my students also study to learn basic guitar and/or piano with me, with an aim to accompany themselves on their original songs. We also have a home recording studio, which is available at a discounted cost to students interested in recording demos of their songs!
About Brittany
Brittany offers private lessons in commercial and/or classical voice, songwriting, music theory, and ear training. She graduated the commercial music program at Belmont University with a focus on voice, songwriting, and music business in 2013. Brittany brings a unique skill set to the table, hav

Ahmad takes difficult concepts and breaks them down into small, easy to understand pieces. Harmony concepts that I thought I wouldn't be able to grasp, I understand fully and use every day. He has a ton of tips that make learning so much faster. For instance, you learn how to find any note on the neck quickly without having to memorize the whole neck, which is crucial skill. Another great thing is that he uses tablature in his lessons. So, you don't have to know how to read music to get started.
If you ever want to write your own music or play with other people, call Ahmad now. He will make sure you learn the right way. I'm writing music and playing/improvising solos, at a level I thought I would never be able to achieve. Every lesson opens new possibilities."
