I have enjoyed teaching the banjo the past 12 years. I emphasize the basics of banjo technique for bluegrass style. I like to use the Banjo Method from Hal Leonard publisher. Yes, you can really learn to play some of your favorite bluegrass favorites!

Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play recognizable tunes. First, starting off with simple arrangments and then building as you become more advanced. I typically use Banjo Primer, Claw Hammer Banjo Primer and "You Can Teach Yourself Banjo" These books break everything down and gets you up and running very quickly. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

I have been working with Eric for one year and he is an excellent instructor. He is quite knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. He is detailed oriented and provides lots of tips on improving my playing. He is also very flexible and allows me to select what I would like to work on whether it be new skills or selecting music I wish to learn. I would very highly recommend him as an instructor.

Eric has taught me a lot in 5 months! He is patient but also corrects my technique which I appreciate. He explains the various skills and techniques making sure that I understand them using efficient fingering. He is also left handed which helps me see the mirror image as I am right handed. Highly recommend him!

We are going to HAVE FUN! I will be customizing your lessons to your needs, your skill level, your age, and most importantly, what you would like to learn on the Banjo.
I give lessons on the 5 string banjo, so if you still need to buy a banjo and you decide to have me as your teacher, please be sure to purchase a 5 string banjo.

I will be including the basic fundamentals (for example, scales and arpeggios as warmup exercises when you practice) keeping them fun, not grueling or boring. You will learn how to strum chords and finger-pick, which is the most common method of playing the banjo. To do this, you will need finger picks, which we will use right away during your first lesson. Overcoming any obstacle is to face it right away and not put it off. Often times new banjo players will avoid using finger picks for various reasons, but I can assure you, once you get used to them, you will never look back!

I will help you sight read music (new songs) which is extremely useful should ...

Rhonda was knowledgeable, fun and professional. She started where I was at and moved me along at my own pace. The music choices were great. Challenging but absolutely doable. Can't wait for my next lesson!!

Rhonda probably the best teacher I have ever had! for the many years that she taught me the violin, guitar, and trombone. she was always patient especially from the time I was young all the way till I was an “adult” preparing me for concerts and solo acts. Rhonda is a master of all and if you told her that you wanted to be the best triangle player or the best trumpet player she would make it happen. If there was an instrument that she has never used that you wanted to learn she would indefinitely buy it, become a master within the week and begin to teach you. She truly is the most genuine and talented person I have ever had the pleasure to work with!

"This produst was a great way to find a banjo teacher, when we had no idea where to even start looking.

Mrs. Fegan is a great instructor, who can explain things on all levels to make sure your child is truly learning. She has a fun disposition and you can tell she really enjoys teaching. My son loves her, learns more than just the banjo at lessons. She is very patient, yet expects my son to do his part too. We have been with her for a year, and now my son has added Baritone lessons as well, because of the encouragement and support, and respect she gives my son. Best teacher we have ever had! I truly believe Mrs. Fegan could teach my son anything, because she teaches the way a person seems to learn at their own ability."

"HE IS AWESOME

I absolutely adored every second with Jason. Even though I was a complete novice, Jason was patient and created a very friendly environment. He encouraged me to choose the lesson plan. Also, knowing that the banjo is typically understood as a blue-grass and southern sound, he opened my ears to Sabbath on the banjo which blew me away and opened the doors to banjo-heavy metal style. He is very versatile and a kick-butt musician. The man can do anything. He is understanding, fun, and encouraging. He never gave-up on me, always made me feel talented and kept me motivated. I will continue to take lessons from Jason. From never touching an instrument before in my life to jamming T. Rex on the banjo in just a month, shows Jason is one great teacher. YOU ROCK!!"

Are Heavy Metal Banjos The Next Big Thing?

Loud, jangly, and twangy, the banjo is an instrument with a distinctive voice that immediately evokes the spirit of the American South. Long a mainstay of bluegrass music, banjos have recently been incorporated into pop music as well by bands like Mumford and Sons. And, if YouTube trends are any indication, it looks like the banjo is making another genre shift! A pack of viral videos featuring banjo covers of hard rock classics are making the rounds and proving that banjos can shred just a …
