こんにちは! I'm a native speaker if Japanese. I've been tutoring Japanese for 10+ years in Japan and the U.S. I love talking about cultures, traveling, hobby, etc. I'd love to hear what your goals are and customize my lessons. :) Let's get started!

About Kyoko

My name is Kyoko. I am a native speaker of Japanese, born and raised in Japan. (As you might guess, my name came from the beautiful city of Kyoto.) When I was in college in Osaka, Japan, I started helping a lot of exchange students with their Japanese. Since then, teaching Japanese has been my

Wow, I want to give ***** 6 Stars! If you are wanting to learn Japanese, then Kyoko is the perfect teacher that anyone could ask for!
I felt embarrassed to seek help to learn Japanese, because after many years of living in Tokyo for my work, I only knew a few small communicating words here and there... arigato, genki etc... and the writing, well that was 'impossible' to read for me!!
Kyoko was very understanding and made me feel completely comfortable about learning the Japanese language from the beginning. At almost 40 years old and trying to push my brain into learning something new, this was challenging and made me nervous at times. But Kyoko is an amazing teacher and when I finished a lesson with her, I was so proud with what I had accomplished and she made me feel empowered and more driven. I can now understand words in hirigana!! It is amazing to me.
I thank Kyoko so much for her help and support with the lessons we had together :) I will do my best.

Kyoko has been an amazing Japanese teacher to my 8 year old daughter. Her lessons are customized to what the student wants or needs to learn. Most importantly she listens and gives great advice for improving your skills. Kyoko is a great teacher who truly cares about your progress. I’ve tried other teachers and my daughter and me like Kyoko the best by far. So much so, she has been my daughter’s teacher for over 3 years.

Kyoko is extremely knowledgeable and is authentically Japanese born and raised in Japan but has lived in the U.S. for awhile now and is natively fluent in English for parents who may not understand Japanese. Her communication and timeliness are amazing! I’d recommend her to any of my friends and family - and have.

I grew up speaking both Japanese and English at home and understand the difficulty of trying to juggle both languages! Whether you want to learn a new language, or simply want to brush up on your Japanese skills, I am always happy to be of help! Lessons will include reading, writing, listening, and speaking (both formal and colloquial styles). I use the Genki and Tobira books and also like to introduce students to classic and modern Japanese literature as a way to enhance the students’ cultural knowledge. I welcome beginning and intermediate Japanese students!

Through my experience as a youth ambassador to the island of Shikoku, studying at University in Tokyo, tutoring Japanese as a Resident Assistant for 2 years and working at a Japanese contemporary art gallery, I feel with my diverse set of experiences I am able to clearly communicate and make either setting a new foundation or building off one a fun experience!

I began learning Japanese at 15 years old where I studied as a Rotary Ambassador in an agriculture village for one year. Having never studied the language prior and in a small community with no English speakers - I feel I created some unique and fun ways to learn a language and really make it stick!

Although with my experience now working bilingually at a Japanese company, I am also conformable helping students with a good foundation of the language already deepen their understanding.

I am able to teach reading, writing and speaking!

I am a Japanese native speaker who has a deep interest in helping students learn Japanese and learn how to be successful in Japanese society. I lived in Japan until this past year and worked as a civil servant for seven years. During that time, I helped JET Program workers from America learn how to talk with their bosses and co-workers. This means I can help you learn smooth business Japanese as well as more casual language. In Japan and in the US, I frequently advise LGBTQ students and students of color about Japanese culture and how to adjust to Japanese society. Both Japanese language and culture can be tough--but I will work with you to help you succeed and achieve your goals!

My favorite aspect of tutoring is tailoring my lessons to YOUR needs and desires. If you would like anime, but need more speaking practice, I can come up with role-play situations that will allow you to talk about your interests. If you like Japanese culture and want to read more high-level texts, we can ...

Aki has earned my highest recommendation. She provides weekly Japanese language and culture online tutoring to my 14-year-old son. She engages him fully, providing a rich multi-media experience utilizing video chat and whiteboarding effectively to simultaneously teach the spoken and written language (Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji). He is excited at the prospect of each new lesson and is learning quickly.

Aki is the best Japanese teacher that I have ever had! Aki plans lessons that exactly match the things I need to learn, so it is very efficient for me. She is especially good at explaining difficult grammar points in a very clear manner. She has really helped me improve in reading, writing and speaking. I am very grateful to her and strongly recommend her to other students.

I can’t even begin to describe how incredible Aki has been as a tutor ever since our first lesson together. I can tell that my speaking skills have improved tremendously since working with her. Aki is great at providing a variety of different assignments and exercises to ensure no stone is left unturned in the learning process. I appreciate the fact that she customizes the lessons and assignments to focus on my interests as well as the areas of language learning that I could use more practice in. This may sound like an exaggeration, but choosing Aki as a Japanese tutor was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Thank you, Aki!!!

O genki desu ka?
Hi, I'm Richard, and I can teach you simple Japanese. I graduated from BYU in Japanese and lived as an LDS Missionary in Tokyo for two years in 2003-2005. I love teaching everything that I know in a simple, understandable way. So I can help you learn the basics faster than you would normally. I know what it's like learning in school where you seem to take forever, and don't get very good. I also know what it's like talking to many people in Japan, and learning very quickly, and knowing the difference. I want to help you learn as efficiently and as quickly as possible. I also have a one hour presentation of the basics of Japanese grammar, that basically covers like the first 2 years of college Japanese classes! No joke, it's a powerpoint presentation I've put together that will really give you the "big picture" with the backwards grammar that we try to understand. Ask me any question, and I'll do my best to help you out! Mata ne!

About Richard
