Fabio T. Springfield, VA

Most modern genres of music can be taught; rock, metal, blues, alternative, etc., as well as classical. We will using tabs and conventional music sheets. Music theory will be integrated into the lessons as needed.

For beginning guitarist, I begin by familiarizing the student with the instrument, and some very basic theory and tuning. We then move on to simple patterns to get those calluses on those finger tips. Then we start with chord charts and strumming rhythms. Followed by the fun stuff, which is actually playing a song. I am very open to my student's tastes and encourage them to bring in songs they would like to learn, because I when someone is familiar with a particular song, it can be almost as if your fingers naturally know what to do. I can teach both electric, classical acoustic, and steel acoustic guitars. For students who are further along, I like to assess their particular level first, and go on from there.

About Fabio

Fabio is an accomplished and experienced musician. Beginning with percussion at the age of 9, he has over 15 years rocking out behind the kit. He has played in many local bands and as well as some internationally. He is sought after for his wide variety of styles: Classic rock, Modern Rock, Alternative, Punk, Metal, Blues, Funk, and Latin. He is currently working on a Hard Rock project whom are finishing up some demos before they start gigging around the area. Aside from drumming, Fabio has also been trained in classical and electric guitar, as well as Music theory, which he acquired while obtaining a BS Mechanical Eng/ and Acoustics. *** Lesson Details *** I believe it is important for a student to feel he/she is in a comfortable environment, which is why I tailor each lesson based

If there was anyway to give John 6 stars I would! John is the best teacher and also a really great guy all around. John is very knowledgeable and I learned a lot from my lessons with him. John is a very patient instructor which helped make the lessons better. I would be remiss not to mention his cool cat Mr. Buttons who would often come down just to listen in on our lessons and even the occasional jam session we would have afterwards. Thank you for all that you do John!

Miles H. Falls Church, VA

I not only focus on reading, technique and theory but how these subjects relate to the music you listen to.

I believe music is a language and is understood best in context of of what music you enjoy on a daily basis, that way you can play along.

I like to structure my lessons around the student, focusing on their goals and aspirations.

About Miles

Miles was born in Bogota, Colombia, but raised in Annapolis, MD. Early in life, he began to take classical piano lessons, but after 9 years, guitar became his instrument of choice (though he still has a fond appreciation for the piano). He then went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Professional Music. His time at Berklee has enabled Miles to play in venues all around the Boston/Cambridge area. He has been teaching around NOVA/DC for 3 years. Miles does his best to make lessons incorporate the music you enjoy listening to in conjunction with the necessary theory and technique to do so. Fun Fact: Two of his guitars are custom built by himself. He often provides students assistance in maintenance of their instrument. "Musical training is ...

Miles is fantastic!

Miles is great at working with my 11 year old on both what she wants to learn and what she needs to learn; he ensures the right balance of theory and contemporary music to keep her interested. We move a lot and have had other piano teachers over the last several years, but Miles is top notch. His calm demeanor and endless patience is much appreciated in this house! Hope he continues to teach my daughter for years to come.
Dennis B. Bethesda, MD

I teach all levels of guitar in the areas of rock, blues and jazz, but I really focus more on the musical skills need to play guitar in any style. These include a thorough chord vocabulary, experience playing rhythm guitar, and a complete progressive study of scales and their use in improvisation (lead guitar) starting with pentatonic scales and progressing to major scales, different forms of minor scales and modes. All scales are learned in multiple positions and the student learns to perform with them in any key. In every lesson the student and I play exercises and study materials together to make actual music from the materials being studied.

About Dennis

I have been teaching guitar for 25 years in the Washington DC metro area. I work with students 12 years of age and up, but I am especially experienced at teaching adult students regardless of whether they are beginners or have previous guitar experience. I have performed in acoustic Celtic, new age, funk, progressive rock, fusion and contemporary jazz groups and am currently performing regularly as a solo acoustic guitarist. I have composed over 40 works for solo guitar as well as numerous pieces for small jazz bands. I have played on numerous CDs including my most recent solo CD 'DARK MATTER'. *** Lesson Details *** I tailor the lesson materials to suit the interest of the student but I am dedicated to teaching students at any level to learn to better understand the fundamentals of ...

fabulous teacher

Dennis is a wonderful teacher. His extensive knowledge of all forms of music comes through in his teaching skills. He is extremely patient and understanding as we work through pieces. I started taking classes as an adult in retirement, with past experience limited to a few chords learned way back in high school. We're now well into number of beautiful classical pieces, I've gained a significant knowledge of music theory, and we've just now starting to tackle the blues !!. I may have eclectic tastes, but Dennis feels very comfortable with it and loves teaching all types of music. I know I'm in the hands of a master musician and teacher.

If you are serious about learning this instrument, you couldn't find a better teacher.

Dennis is extraordinary in all ways: He knows about all there is to know about harmony; he can pinpoint and diagnose exactly what difficulty a student might be having and then explain how to overcome it; he is a talented composer and improvisor; and above all, in whatever genre he chooses to play, he is simply a beautiful musician.
