    Trumpet made easy! 🎺

In my trumpet lessons, I give you the fundamentals required for all avenues of musical growth and sustenance. With wind instruments like trumpet, breathing is essential, so in the time leading up to a student acquiring their own instrument, there is a vast trove of breathing techniques and exercises we can go over to make the transition over to trumpet seamless. Once a student is in possession of their own horn (or a rental), we will cover the intricacies of embouchure discipline, pressing and changing notes/valves, and how to read and transpose music - this last part is important because it will open up a much greater library of music that you can play along to or with other musicians, just by applying a simple adjustment to how you already read any piece of music. I have over seventeen years of professional and self-taught experience playing trumpet, and I'm confident I can set you on the right path, or at the very least close up gaps in your knowledge base with brass-specific skills and other music theory fundamentals. As a note, my trumpet course expects students to dedicate -at least- 30 minutes of practice a day with your instrument, which our regularly scheduled lessons will NOT count towards. When necessary, I will assign practice logs to better monitor your practice habits. Failure to do this may seriously impede your progress, and may even result in a reassessment of lesson privileges. Note: I have intentionally made longer lessons NOT cost-effective so that students are more likely to choose shorter lessons. This is because I believe short lessons are more beneficial in the long run, especially when students have one particular goal or subject to focus on throughout the week. I am open to discussing alternative pricing for students who are individually conscious about their learning habits and would like to have longer lessons.

    Acerca de Troy S.

Hello, I am a songwriter, performer, and band leader with the know-how to teach a wide variety of subjects related to music. I take pride in my understanding of music theory, particularly how it relates to playing piano and keyboard. To me, one of the most fun things about music is breaking down a song and seeing how all of its different elements come together to create a beautiful masterpiece. Finding all the interesting coincidences and intentional composition choices between musical works really tests your brain like a big puzzle. Solving the puzzle not only makes a song easier to understand and play along to, but will also reward you with specific skills related to your chosen instrument. That being said, I am a lifelong student myself, so if someone has a question that I'm unable to answer, I'm humble enough to say "I don't know - but let's figure it out together!" My main expertise is with reading and performing keyboard music, though I am also a seasoned trumpet player, singer, and bassist, having written and performed with a multitude of bands over my musical career. If I'm your guy, let's talk! I have so much to share with you!
