I offer exceptionally customized mentoring in music composition and songwriting. My goal is help students tranform the ideas in their head into fully realized, artistically rich pieces of music. I offer lessons to students of all ages and musical backgrounds. Through thoughtful and pedagogically informed mentoring, my lessons empower the artistic vision of each of my students, while contributing my own knowledge and insights to help spark the creative imagination. As an emerging composer, I've written and arranged music for a wide variety of ensembles and settings, including but not limited to: orchestra, jazz and chamber choir, string quartet, piano, jazz combo, rock band, acapella group, wind quartet, accompanied voice, percussion, and electronics. I specialize in writing for vocal ensembles and small groups of instruments, but I'm also trained in orchestration and electronic music production. I'm well-versed in music notation software (Sibelius, Finale), DAWs (Ableton, Logic), and synthesizers. My favorite part of composition lessons is getting to know each student's distinctive musical voice. My musical influences run the gamut (seriously), and I absolutely love identifying students' passions while simultaneously encouraging them to broaden their compositional language. I also know firsthand how difficult it can be to write music that you feel proud of. With a wealth of pedagogical knowledge under my belt, I work to guide students through writer's block and self-doubt.
