I offer exceptionally customized and pedagogically informed piano lessons. My goal is to cultivate every student's self expression through technical and artistic mastery of the keyboard. I offers lessons to students of all ages and musical backgrounds. My lessons are a fun and safe place to learn through mistakes (unless you're not into that – scathing admonition available upon request). I invite students to bring in pieces of music that excite them, while contributing my own knowledge of the repertoire. Along with extensive classical training, I have experience with jazz, blues, pop, and rock styles, and I encourage students to engage with a diversity of styles. For older students, repertoire selection is done via email or instant messaging, so that we can hit the ground running in lessons! Younger students enjoy thoughtful deployment of musical games and off-the-bench activities. I also encourage the incorporation of music theory, history, aural skills, and/or improvisation into my lessons, as I believe these to be essential to a well-rounded musician. Few things bring me greater joy than coaching through a sight-reading, developing a student's improvisational toolkit, or breaking down a composer's musical rhetoric. And, believe it or not, most of my students stay awake the whole time!
