Fraction Frustration no more! In this class, ALL grade levels can learn how to manipulate fractions.

As a High School Math teacher, I have noticed that students often come to a screeching halt when encountering problems that involve fractions. This is usually because students were not taught to understand how to simplify fractions. When fractions show up as part of an equation or expression it is important to know how to manipulate them. In this class, we go over the basics of Fractions (you know those Pies cut into slices to represent fractions) We will then look at fractions mathematically and how to manipulate them so as to use them in calculations. We end the lesson with an interactive game or activity. For the 30 minute lesson: 10 minutes to go over basics of fractions. 10 minutes learning about Equivalent Fractions 10 minutes of practice with Equivalent Fractions with an interactive Game or Activity. For the 60 minute lesson: 10 minutes to go over the basics of Fractions 10 minutes learning about Equivalent Fractions 10 minutes practice with Equivalent Fractions 10 minutes spent on Adding Fractions 10 minutes on Multiplying Fractions 10 minutes of an interactive Game to close out the lesson with practice on Fractions.

    Acerca de Rani S.

I am an educator with over 20 years of experience teaching and tutoring. I have an Electrical Engineering degree, an Early Childhood Education Certificate, a Teaching Credential in Mathematics, and a passion for Science and Math education. My area of expertise lies in Algebra 1, but I also excel in Geometry and other areas of math. I am passionate about helping students achieve that "aha" moment, where they fully understand a concept. Math builds on itself, and is a subject that students will encounter at all levels of education. This is why I try to build a deeper understanding of concepts so that my students are successful in Math not just today but also for future Math classes. I welcome and encourage my students to ask clarifying questions. My goal is to help students understand what they are working on rather than just "get through" their math problems. Many students are reluctant to ask questions for fear of asking (what students label as) a "dumb question". I like to meet students where they are at in their learning, and their questions allow me to focus on where a student needs the most support. I strongly believe in the power of interactive learning not only to make lessons interesting but also to be able to support varied learning styles. Through personalized lesson plans and one-on-one interactions, I aim to instill a student's confidence in their Mathematical abilities while simultaneously improving my students' academic performance
