I have been creating songs and jingles since I was a young child, and my knowledge of songwriting was able to truly expand under the guidance of Pat Pattison and many other cutting-edge faculty at Berklee College of Music, where I received my degree in Songwriting and Musical Theater Writing. From the basics of songwriting, such as rhyming, scansion, form, rhythm, melody, and harmony, to more advanced topics such as modes and improvisation, I will create a custom lesson plan to increase your knowledge and enhance your strengths as a writer. You don't need to have written anything before to come learn about songwriting, but I can also help more advanced writers continue to further their songwriting skills. We can work in any genre you would like to focus on. My greatest strengths as a writer are lyric writing, melody writing, and improvisation, but my teaching style will cover all skills necessary for a well rounded songwriter. For this class, you do not need to be a great singer or instrumentalist, but having an instrument to play your ideas on is particularly helpful.
