MA Physics

Learn physics from a former university physics instructor.

Why study Physics? Physics is the most fundamental scientific discipline. It seeks to understand the basic rules governing the behavior of everything in the universe. You will develop a deeper understanding of the world around you. In addition to content knowledge, physics can help you develop general problem-solving skills that are applicable in many areas of life. Good physical intuition and problem-solving skills come with practice, just like learning a language. There are no shortcuts. Polya’s four-step problem-solving process is a great way to approach physics problems. 1. Understand the problem. 2. Devise a plan. 3. Carry out the plan. 4. Look back. Introducing students to this process will help them develop their problem-solving skills and become more confident in their ability to tackle challenging problems.

    Acerca de Mike D.

My name is Mike, and I earned a master’s degree in physics from UC Berkeley and two bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and physics from Penn State. I have taught physics and mathematics courses at the university, community college, and high school levels. I have tutored students in physics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations and standardized test preparation. In addition to my teaching and tutoring experience, I spent five summer seasons working at the South Pole. The key to my student-centered tutoring is communication. You may be unwilling to freely state your thoughts when learning in a classroom, due to fear of looking foolish to your instructor and classmates. As your tutor, there is no penalty from me when you are incorrect. I can ask questions to clarify any confusion or ambiguity in your thinking. We will then identify any gaps in your understanding and fill them in.
