English Speaking/Conversation 1. Speak, speak, speak The best way to speak better is to... speak! Commit yourself to practicicing often with a native speaker for better conversation. Improve your English for situations such as conversations with friends, family, your coworkers, classmates, employees, supermarkets, and other places you visit. If you’re learning from your own country or abroad, increase your practice time by practicing English with a professional! 2. Improve through conversation After your conversation is over, take a moment to look back and check your performance. How did it go? How much did you understand? How comfortable did you feel with the topic? Did you increase your vocabulary? Checking your own progress will increase your confidence for the next time you speak! 3. Listening and reading Class time is great for learning vocabulary, idioms, phrasal verbs, and other ways to express in English. While you are taking the course, watch movies, listen to music, and listen to podcasts. Read books, magazines, and blogs. When listening and reading, find new and interesting expressions, slang terms and synonyms, write down this new material and look up anything you’re not familiar with. We will clarify everything in class! 4. Make calls easier Most people find phone conversations and video-conferencing calls particularly challenging. While on the phone, we can’t see the other person’s body language or watch their mouth move, both of which are tools that really help communication. While the phone is difficult, video-conferencing can be equally challenging. Whether speaking with a native English speaker or someone using English as a second language, confidence from practice is key. To feel more confident on calls, this course is for you. 5. Record yourself I know from personal experience that most people dislike hearing their voice recorded. However, it is extremely beneficial to improve your speaking! Hearing yourself on a recording shows you things you might not realize, which allows you to correct yourself over time! 6. Have fun! It’s far easier to learn something new when you’re having fun. Conversational English allows you to explore free talk and either improve or maintain a high level of speaking and listening. Enjoy yourself and use this time to have fun with me on topics that you choose!
