    English Lessons for Japanese Speakers with a Certified Instructor

    I'm a student at University at Albany working on my Master's degrees for ESL Education Program and Intercultural Communication. I am passionate about teaching, and I absolutely love the idea of cultural exchanges and learning about students! I was also an ESL student when I first came to the States and I understand how hard it can be. I have experiences in teaching a class of more than 25 students as well as one-on-one tutoring sessions of various proficiency levels. Hope to hear from you soon!

    はじめまして & thank you for taking a moment to check out my profile! I'm originally from Tokyo Japan, and I moved to NY with my family during high school. I've completed Master's degrees in Language Education & Communication, and Bachelor's Degrees in Music Performance and Political Science. I enjoyed organizing and running language study groups in college, and experienced working as a Japanese TA for several semesters. I LOVE to teach in general, whether it's music or languages, and I personalize most of my teaching materials for individual student. Let me know what YOUR unique short/long-term goals are, along with interest topics, and we'll work it out! Thanks again, and I'm excited to hear from you!     I had my first class yesterday with Hikaru. She is really kind and helpful, and I learned a lot in our first session. She's really patient even though I'm completely new to the language and need some extra help. I'm really looking forward to our future classes!

    I just had my second lesson with Hikaru and I ask so many questions all the time and am just a lot as a person, but she's so patient and is really willing to answer all of my questions and go over absolutely whatever. She's also very good at explaining things and can explain the grammar side to me (I'm a big grammar proponent), which is an absolute blessing. Lessons fly by and I absolutely cannot wait for my next one. Also, she's been helping me find resources that I can use to work on my Japanese outside of lessons. I know that some people won't do that because they want you to buy more lessons, but Hikaru genuinely just wants to help me learn both the language and the culture.
