Learn flamenco guitar with a knowledgable teacher

I have both the communicative and interpersonal strengths to connect with most students. I take a gentle approach that makes students comfortable with me and with the music they want to learn. Music can be very complex; even simple music requires juggling several aspects simultaneously. It takes time, patience, and tenacity to become proficient in the details, which is a very important aspect of successfully learning to play flamenco. I am patient, and I can usually find a way to explain things simply, so that students can build a solid foundation for their future musical studies. I strongly prefer hour lessons. 30 minutes doesn't allow for a lot of learning or transmission of skill.

    Acerca de Anthony G.

Thanks for your interest in learning about flamenco and classical guitar. I'm a professional flamenco guitarist, I've studied classical too, but my primary focus is flamenco. I've been playing guitar for 40 years! I have spent years studying the 2 main trajectories flamenco guitarists usually follow: 1) playing with flamenco voice and dance, and 2) playing as a soloist (or with other musicians). I have also studied and am familiar with many of the method books used to teach both flamenco and classical guitar. As a teacher, I first like a little time with each student to assess their musical knowledge and development, ask them about where they would like to go with their playing, then formulate a plan to help them move forward. I can also teach music theory. I lived in Spain twice and have played in flamenco dance classes to learn the structure of the song forms both in terms of voice and dance, which are the backbone of flamenco. Among many things, flamenco is a collection of 60 - 80 song forms, each with a history and often many variants. I have also studied flamenco and classical guitar technique in depth to arrive at an understanding of the important differences between the two styles. I enjoy teaching students who are interested in learning about both domains and how they are both different and similar. I speak Spanish and have been translating guitar study books from English into Spanish, as well as Spanish into English. I can teach in Spanish.

Hi, I used to work as a research assistant in neuroscience research. I have left the field to do what I love most: play flamenco guitar. I also worked at UCSD in 2016 in the neurosciences.
