I'm creative in my teaching. We will work together to find what inspires you the most about music. And I will develop lesson plans based on your interests. Often, my lessons are very structured but fun and focused on progress. However, for some students learning is most exciting when it's not focused on forward progress but on exploration. I'm comfortable walking that line between structure and spontaneity and I love finding what's perfect for you. In addition to teaching piano, I teach voice, songwriting, composition, how to sing and play at the same time, performance techniques and more! Just let me know if any of these things also interest you.

I'm a performing and recording singer-songwriter, living in San Francisco. I am a classically trained pianist, (been playing for forty years!) but I also sing, compose, arrange, record and play guitar. I'm trained in piano pedagogy and I know how to make learning fun. We will work together to find what excites you about music and thus discover the best pathway to your progress. My teaching style is creative and fun, yet focused. I teach ages 7 and up. My oldest student just turned 80! As a performing artist, I frequently take trips around the globe for music. I had a song placed on the show, Grey's Anatomy, back in 2007. Music is my life and I love sharing it with others, either through performance or teaching.

I've learned a lot from Amy's lessons in a brief period of time! I was completely new to piano when I started taking lessons with her, and she has given me the structure to learn and steadily improve. Amy is always prepared and very knowledgeable, and she creates a chill learning environment where I feel comfortable asking questions, developing skills at my own pace, and making mistakes without feeling bad about it. In terms of scheduling/logistics, Amy has been excellent. It was easy to find a regular time for us to meet. She communicates clearly and promptly via text and email, which I've found really helpful. I'm really happy I chose Amy as my piano teacher!

I love Amy! When I went to see her for my first lesson, I was afraid of my own voice. She gave me exercises and coached me to relax (which I need), increase my breath capacity, add strength, and hone my tone and placement. When I get to parts of songs that I find intimidating, she encourages me to face them head-on and we work on them. There are songs I can perform now that I simply could not sing before. People tell me, "Wow, I can tell a difference!" She has given me confidence in myself, which is so much more valuable than I could have ever imagined. She helps me with harmonies, gives me performance tips, and is even producing my first EP. I can't recommend her highly enough. 100 stars!

Amy is an absolute pro who really knows her stuff. Not only can she see AND hear where you’re having difficulty, but also diagnose why while offering super clear action steps toward the desired result immediately. As a life-long artist in multiple disciplines (music, dance, acting), I’ve always thrived with mentors who teach what to do and what NOT to do for a thorough understanding of the craft. Amy embodies that naturally. Highly recommend!
