I am a Cantonese teacher based in New York City with over ten years of professional teaching experience. I work with adults at various experience levels, tailoring my classes to meet each student's specific goals and ensure steady progress. My aim is to create a comfortable and friendly learning environment where you'll feel like you're chatting with a friend. There’s no judgment here, only encouragement to speak freely.
Having been born and raised in Hong Kong and spending half of my life in the US, I have a unique perspective on both Eastern and Western cultures. I believe that language reflects a culture and its worldview. The more we study how people communicate, the closer we become to their culture, and the better we understand different values and beliefs.

I've taken Cantonese classes with Alice over a year now and she has been one of the best instructors I've ever had! Alice is very patient and demonstrates a high level understanding of the language. When there are some things I can't translate well into English, she translates it effortlessly. With Alice, it's not just learning the words but even situations and tones behind certain word choices. Alice goes further in-depth and is willing to take the extra time to ensure her students aren't lost along the way. She's also very easy to communicate with and understanding when it comes to schedule conflicts.
Sometimes other private lessons can feel like a chore but not with Alice. Her lessons are something I look forward to every week! If anyone is looking for a Cantonese teacher, definitely give classes with Alice a try!
