My son's review of her is, "She is the best teacher ever!"

Renee is very knowledgeable, but also has the God given gift of teaching. She truly pulls the best out of my son. His diligence and focus are growing, right along side of his piano skills. We could not recommend her more highly.

Victor K.

Cincinnati, OH

About Victor

I received my Bachelor of Music Degree in Organ Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in June of 2010, studying under Dr. Roberta Gary. I have completed all the coursework for the Master of Music Degree in Organ Performance. I will receive the degree in late 2014 or early 2015 after performing one more solo recital.

I began playing the piano at the age of 5, later moving to the organ at 9. I have held a church job since then, working in multiple different denominations and settings. I have a strong background of piano, accompanying, theory, sacred liturgy, and m
usical performance. I enjoy studying and listening to many genres of music as well as performing them. I am very interested in historically informed performance and understanding different techniques as they are related to the composition style of different time periods.

I enjoy working with students of all ages. Regardless of your ability, age, or experience, I will work with you. We can work out a plan for lesson times, intensity of practice and work, and tailor the lesson to the right pace for you.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons tend to be tailored to the needs of individual students. I am not as much a fan of a strict curriculum that I use on each student. For beginners, one can expect to be given method books to get them moving in the right direction. As one advances, we eventually move on to repertoire. I take an approach to lessons that emphasizes total body awareness and high level mental awareness. The most important thing anyone can learn in music is that it isn't just about the right notes; it isn't about the right rhythm. It is about the complete musicianship and the complete awareness needed to truly understand and perform a work of music. In order to make this approach work, my strictness as a teacher varies depending on the level of devotion the student is willing to put forth. After six months with me as a teacher, expect to notice changes in the way you see music and comprehend your technique at the keyboard.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to purchase their own music. For beginners with method books, I have these available to the students to purchase from me.

*** Specialties ***
I am very highly trained in performance practices of the Baroque era, especially on the organ. I am also very specialized in body movement and efficient keyboard technique. I also have a lot of experience in the Romantic repertoire of the piano. Lastly, I am also well trained as an accompanist on both the organ and the piano.

My teenager has had lessons with Jacob for 3 years, first guitar, then piano. He has a great personality and is a very encouraging teacher. She never once wanted to quit and never complained about going to the lessons, even with an otherwise very busy schedule, which is a testament to him and his teaching. He is a very dedicated and talented musician, and was always willing to work with whatever songs she wanted to learn. I would highly recommend him for any age kid or adult.

Timothy K.

West Milton, OH

About Timothy

Hello!
Some people say they have done something all of their life; I have been making beats since I was born. Often times, when the pots and pans were dirty, I would use the table as a drum and my family's heads as the cymbals! At the age of 4 I received my first drum set and from there it has been an exciting journey.

For the majority of my education I was home schooled, which allowed me to spend a lot more time with my instruments than most kids do. I have always been a bit unconventional in the way I take on challenges, and this carried into my drum lessons. I began taking lessons at a
ge 7 and for the next ten years my instructor was a primarily jazz drummer and pianist who inspired me to explore many styles of music. The experience gained through playing with other people over the last ten years has been invaluable, working with groups ranging from church praise teams and cover bands to blues/rock artists and musical drama accompaniment. I have also learned to play guitar by trial and error and currently am taking on piano, MIDI programming and music theory.

All this adds up to being able to work well with people and students and finding ways of connecting with them so that they get the most out of my teaching. Thanks for reading! Hope to meet you soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
I enjoy playing and thinking of drums as musical instruments as opposed to just playing beats and fills. My goal with teaching is to pass that passion on to students and help them become the best musicians they can be. That being said, each student is unique and their passion comes to life in a different way; I want to help you find yours! There are many ways that a subject or concept can be approached, and I frequently switch tactics if the one I was using isn't clicking with a student. My lessons are fairly laid back, but students will take away new things from every one of them. Progress, while greatly depending on how much practice, time and effort are put into the lessons, will surface quickly and flourish as lessons continue.

The majority of my drum lessons are taught with the book Basic Drumming by Joel Rothman. It covers a very wide variety of drumming styles that will challenge students and provide fun explorations into new concepts.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home: separate part of home, acoustic drum set, congas, cajon, other percussion instruments, computer with Ableton Live and Lightworks Pro, mics, Tascam 1800 recording interface, keyboard, guitars and amps, seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide any outside teaching materials or examples, and would expect students to provide instrument, computer or other equipment necessary for them to effectively learn and practice.

*** Specialties ***
I most often play and teach pop/rock drumming and worship music but can also range into reggae, dance, blues, jazz, Latin and a bit into several other foreign styles.

Kerry certainly has the experience, both in teaching and performing. When someone like Kerry teaches, he brings both his knowledge from his degrees, and his experience from performing. Working with Kerry, I know for a fact that not only is he talented, but he is professional all the way, and takes his work very seriously. You will not be disappointed if you choose to hire Kerry!
