Chaetan N.

Chicago, IL

About Chaetan

Having played music for as long as I can remember (my father is an accomplished Jazz and Soul drummer), music has always been a key ingredient in my life. From playing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme on the drum set as a toddler, I have gone on to learn electric/classical/lap steel guitar, electric/upright bass, various keyboard instruments, most percussion instruments, and many old time instruments such as banjo, mandolin, dulcimer, and harmonica. I'm currently teaching myself viola.

In addition to the performing aspect of music, I am also experienced with writing/composition, recor
ding/engineering/mixing/production, and design/manufacturing/distribution/vending of my own albums as well as those of others. However, none of these things bring me the same joy as teaching the ways of music to others. Fortunately, all of these skills integrate to bring about a clear view of the big picture in regards to music so I can better serve a wider variety of pupils and quickly reveal this big picture to all of them.

While I have indeed put a lot of time in touring and playing rowdy rock shows with many critically acclaimed and well-known musicians, I have also taken countless years of public and private lessons on guitar, bass, drums, piano, music theory, and songwriting from highly decorated and regarded teachers. As a child, I played in a nearly overwhelming amount of ensembles and attended various camps and seminars including Cannon Music Camp where I played with The North Carolina Symphony for two consecutive summers. This all prepared me for the Bachelors of Music I received from Berklee College of Music where I appeared on the Dean's List each semester. Now for the price of one instructor, you can learn from a man with as much knowledge as an entire faculty.

I provide a friendly, low-pressure atmosphere that will allow you to feel comfortable enough to reach your full potential. We will be having such a good time, you will forget to even be nervous!

There is more amazing music out there than you would think and even more to be created in the future. Come get in on it!

Great Beginner Guitar Lessons

I look forward to my weekly guitar lessons with Chaetan because he is a very knowledgeable, relaxed, and patient teacher. He tailors my lessons to meet my personal goals (learning those pinnacle acoustic songs). But as an exceptional instructor, he also guides me to meet goals he has for me as a student, such as learning to build chords on my own. The quality of his instruction has already increased my progress on the instrument. Overall, his talent and interest in music motivate me to practice so I am fortunate to have found Chaetan as my guitar teacher.

Excellent and Unique Teacher

Chaetan is a very friendly instructor who tailors his lessons to meet both the experience level and type of music a student is interested in. Chaetan has a lot of energy and makes the lessons fun. He appears to know every aspect of what he is teaching as well as plays other instruments. My daughter and I are both very happy with Chaetan.

Jeff F.

Chicago, IL

I have been working with beginner through intermediate mallet and timbales players for eighteen years.

About Jeff

I have been working as a freelance musician and private instructor in Chicago for fifteen years. During this time I have been hired to perform Jazz, Rock, R/B, and world music. As an instructor I have maintained a studio of five to twenty students on a weekly basis. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Percussion Performance, and a Master of Music degree from De Paul University in Jazz Studies.

*** Lesson Details ***
With committed weekly practice there are no limits to a student's potential. I like to use the term guide to describe my teaching
style. In a relaxed atmosphere, the student and I are working together to advance their musical goals. Sometimes goals are reached quickly, more often we need more time and repetition to advance. The mind learns quicker than the body, so focused practice will help train the body and bring it to the mind's level.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Finished Basement studio: drum set, snare drum, small mallet, xylophone and electric piano, room for parents to sit in on lesson

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student should provide sticks and mallets and purchase a book that we will work out of weekly.

*** Specialties ***
I feel comfortable teaching all levels of percussion. I have experience teaching a variety of styles Jazz, rock, classical, and world.

**Excellent** drum instructor, highly recommended

Jeff is everything you'd want in a drum instructor: he is highly skilled, has thorough knowledge of drumming styles and technique, and he is an excellent communicator. On top of that he is thoughtful, polite and listens carefully. This is all a very, very rare combination.

I had to play a couple of slow gospel tunes for a church service this summer; Jeff very quickly found suitable and tasteful grooves for me that were within my capability to play. He also worked with me on some rudiments and provided invaluable feedback. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Peter M.

Chicago, IL

I teach all ages and skill levels. I have taught young children (from age 5) as well as teens and adults. I enjoy teaching all types of students and always tailor my lessons to the ability and personality of the student.

About Peter

I am a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a bachelors in jazz drum set performance. I have toured with various bands in the US, Asia, and Europe and recently completed six months of teaching, studying, and performing music in Brazil.
I teach all levels and all styles of music, from Rock to Jazz to Latin-American rhythms. In my lessons I maintain a healthy balance of drum basics (rudiments, stick technique) and helping the students learn the music that would like to play. Learning the fundamentals gives students the tools they need to be creative as possible. I can prepare stu
dents for school band and jazz band auditions as well as prepare them to play in a band of their own!

*** Lesson Details ***
I always spend a good part of each lesson working with students on fundamentals. These usually include drum rudiments and the book "Stick Control."
I also like to spend a portion of the lessons focusing on the student's own musical interests and teaching them to play the drum parts from songs they like.
If the student is in or aspires to be in a band, whether it be a garage band with friends or the school jazz band, I can help the student develop the necessary skills.

Above all, I strive to make my students excited about music and to inspire them to work hard towards accomplishing the goals that we set together.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Drum Sticks, Books, Practice Pad or Snare Drum with stand (if necessary)

*** Specialties ***
Rock, Funk, World Rhythms, Jazz, Blues

Learn the fundamentals and how to groove

Peter is one of the best drummers I know. I had the opportunity to take lessons from him a couple years ago and he gave me the tools I needed to feel comfortable and confident on a drumset. He stresses proper technique and rhythmic precision. He also showed me how to play grooves I wanted to learn. A great all around musician and teacher. Highly recommended.

Andrew S.

Chicago, IL

About Andrew

My approach to teaching is very focused on giving students a strong foundation in the fundamentals of music. For drums this would be reading and understanding rhythms, proper technique which includes both hands and feet for drum kit, snare drum which I believe is the foundation for everything, and practicing with a metronome. Having a good solid foundation in these things will give you the tools necessary to learn any style of music you choose with much more ease and confidence. I know this from my own personal 26 years of experience and also from the success of my former and current students
who have this foundation.

You can count on Andrew to always give you his all. He is actually the only drum teacher that I endorse. Not only is he immensely talented in all areas of percussion, but he has the communication skills and personality critical for an effective teacher. He truly cares about his students and he will go the extra mile if there is something in particular you want to focus on. If you are passionate about learning the drums or simply want to get better, he will take you in the right direction.

On numerous occasions after shows, people have asked me who my drum teacher is, they tell me I have very good form and look relaxed while playing. I learned everything I know from Andrew and I am so thankful for his guidance because he is responsible for all of my progress.

Andrew is simply the best. Our 11 year old son has been taking drum lessons for a couple of years now; has a great experience at every lesson; and looks forward to Andrew's knock on the door every week. I cannot say enough about Andrew's enthusiasm, ability to relate, and knowledge of his craft. As a past professional opera singer I've been coached by some of the best in the business. Andrew is right up there and he is especially talented in his ability to work with younger people. My son took to him like glue to wood. If you employ Andrew as an instructor you will absolutely not be disappointed.

Zack has been giving my daughter drum lessons for almost 4 years. They started working together and she had never played drums before. Anna, my daughter, can now play a drum kit and she sounds amazing. Zack has made the learning process fun and engaging for a six year old teaching her the basics and helping her progress over the course of weekly lessons. Zack pushes my daughter and encourages her constructively to practice and enjoy the drums. I thought her desire for drums was the latest fad, but she is 4 years into it and going strong. I thank Zack for making it fun and for teaching in a way that allows her to continuously improve, keeps her interest, and helps her learn about music and the drums so that at 10 years old, she is a really cool drummer and she loves it. I highly recommend Zack to teach music to your child.

Zack is a fantastic teacher. I started taking lessons with Zack five years ago, and I knew absolutely nothing about drums or how to play. Together, we created a teaching plan that would be the most beneficial in my learning experience. Aside from teaching me how to play drums, Zack has also taught me to be confident in myself, and he has always been a great friend to me. I know that I will never be done taking lessons from Zack because there is always more that he can teach me.
