Angelina K.

El Paso, TX

About Angelina

I've been playing the piano since the age of 6 and enjoy passing the love of music to others. In 2014, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Pedagogy. While there I participated in accompanying different music groups and choirs. Although I do love accompanying others, my passion is to teach piano.

During the initial meeting, I find out what the student wants to accomplish from piano lessons. After hearing what they want I compile a plan of how to achieve his goals. No matter what the goals are for the individual, I give all my students a strong theory foundation and strive to
challenge my students in many areas.

Mrs Nelson has worked with my four kids in music and choir for about 3 to 5 years, respectively, one of which took additional lessons for singing and piano. It is great to have a teacher who actually loves what they do and carry a standard that is undeniable. Her love and passion for music will be a boost to anyone, confident or not, who takes a course with her, it's rather enthusiastic.

I must also add that Mrs Nelson worked with my husband in vocal excerising to prepare for the recording of his third CD.

Over the course of the 20+ years that I have known LaVonne, I have been privileged to sit under her teaching on more occasions that I can number. Without any doubt, she easily ranks in the top tier of teachers from whom my family and I have sought learning on a wide range of topics, from speaking voice to music theory to vocal training. LaVonne is a gifted teacher who always infuses passion into every subject she teaches. You will be hard-pressed to find another educator who brings to the table more insight and practical experience to the field of music than LaVonne. She is a rarity indeed!

The Surprising Truth About the Vocal Fry "Epidemic"
How bad is "vocal fry," anyway? As a singer, should you be concerned about this new vocal trend, heard in artists such as Britney Spears? In this guest post by Ann Arbor, MI voice teacher Elaina R., listen to a vocal fry example and learn the truth behind the fuss...   I was recently listening to This American Life (a popular radio show and podcast), and the hosts started talking about vocal fry. As a voice professional, I immediately started paying rapt attention. Within a few minute
Video: 4 Effective Vocal Warm-Ups to Try When You're Sick
Feeling a cold coming on, or dealing with allergies? Below, Brooklyn, NY teacher Liz T. shares a few singing warm-up exercises to add to your practice session!   No one likes to sing when they’re sick, but -- as we all know -- sometimes “the show must go on!” It is recommended that you rest, take care of your voice, or even go on vocal rest if you have lost your voice completely. However, if you are dealing with seasonal allergies or a common cold, I have good news! It is still health
The Anatomy of a Hit Pop Song [Infographic]
When you're learning how to write a song, looking at how other songs are structured can be a great place to start. Like looking at a map before you go on a roadtrip, checking out the basic elements of songs you love gives you a sense of how they were written and what you need to do to write a song of your own. If analyzing all your favorite songs sounds like a daunting task (it is), you're in luck. The Billboard Experiment wanted to know if there was a formula that could determine which songs
Strategies for Sight Singing
It may seem like instrumentalists have it much easier when it comes to sight reading music; by simply pressing a key or a string, the notes are immediately available to them without any additional thought, and all that’s left to them is to work out duration, dynamics, and tempo. Singers, on the other hand, don't have an instrument to rely on. Taking a song previously unknown to you and delivering a reasonably accurate performance the very first run-through isn’t a talent that everybody has.
