Steven H.

Pittsburgh, PA

Beginning students can expect to learn the basics of the instrument and how to handle it. It is very important to play without hurting yourself. They will also learn how to start coordinating their hands to pick and fret together in a manner that produces the most accurate pitch and tone possible. We will also cover the basics of chords and chord progressions.

Intermediate and advanced students will learn about different playing styles and techniques, as well as develop a solid repertoire.

An instrument is required for this subject.

About Steven

Hey, my name is Steve! I teach guitar (acoustic, classical, and electric) and bass guitar. I have been teaching guitar for about 7 years now, and have loved every second of it. Whether you want to simply learn how to play chords on an acoustic guitar or shred on an electric guitar, I can help you make that happen. I attended Duquesne University for classical guitar and audio engineering for undergraduate and classical guitar performance for graduate school, and have not stopped learning even after leaving school. My goal is to help you become the best musician that you can be, while still
having fun and enjoying the process. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Sam was wonderful with my daughter. He took the time to show her around his studio and explained some of the instruments to her. He even let her play a few. That helped her relax a bit and enjoy her first lesson.

Sam is an excellent instructor without question! I spoke with him on the phone to get an idea of where I'm at and where I want to be, so immediately when I came to my first lesson we hit the ground running! I am very pleased with what I've learned so far and it's now up to me to practice and have my questions ready to make the most out of the time given (which is the fastest half hour you'll live ) I definitely recommend Sam to any level student who is serious about reaching the next level.

Dylan C.

Pittsburgh, PA

There's no substitute for self-motivation whenever learning a new instrument. Whether it be the song with 500 plays on your iPod, or the theme to your favorite video game, you are much more likely to commit hours of weekly practice to an instrument if you spend that time with a song you thoroughly enjoy. For that reason, the core of my teaching style is simple: students come to me with the songs they love, and I show them how to play those songs. If this calls for specific chords, techniques, or strumming patterns, I make those the priority in the student's instruction. General fundamentals, music theory, and ear training are integrated into lessons as we gradually work toward mastering the songs you love.

About Dylan

I am a graduate from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in Music, and I plan to use my experience and passion for the art to help students reach their performance goals. I've been playing guitar for ten years, and the mandolin & ukulele for five. Over the years, I have performed in large events like the One Young World Summit with the University of Pittsburgh Carpathian Ensemble, and the Passion of Gamelan and Pop Sunda Concert. I've also played smaller, more intimate concerts at venues like Mr. Small's Theater and the Warhol Museum with my own pop-rock band, The Suburban Sellouts. In 2012
, I had the incredible opportunity to study Romani music abroad in Central Europe through the Romani Music, Culture, & Human Rights study abroad program, and in 2013 I trained in Balkan music at the East European Folklife Center (EEFC) Balkan Music & Dance Workshop. From punk to musicals and everything in between, I love music and I will work with students to master any style that interests them.

Aaron W.

Pittsburgh, PA

In addition to chords, scales and arpeggios, I can show you how to apply music theory on songs you'd like to learn.

About Aaron

I'm a Pittsburgh native who currently plays with a flamenco group and networks with different musicians in the area. I enjoy many genres of music, including jazz. I've studied under Erik Lawrence since 2012. I would like to give lessons. I'm interested in teaching more than just sight-reading and repertoire. I would like to give students a clear perspective on the underlying principles of modern music in order to help them create and improvise their own personal material. Students will know how and how not to practice. I will do my best to offer them the tools they need to perform in va
rious musical situations. Most of all, I look forward to sharing my love of music.

Aaron has a great commnad of the flute and made it real easy for me to play with him. He has a great ear and knowledge of music theory which makes it very easy to play with him in any setting. He is very patient and can take any song and expand it to new depths.

Aaron was very helpful in helping me work on the songs that had been giving me problems, and opened my mind to different possibilities with solos and improvising ideas. Patient and thoroughly interested in his students improvement! Will return for more lessons! Thanks, Aaron!
