Hi there! I'm so glad that you are interested in taking guitar lessons! Let me tell you a little bit about how I teach. To quote a good friend of mine, "teachers teach the way they were taught".
I was taught to understand music first, and then apply it to the guitar. I was taught that patience, diligence, and intentionality are key to learning an instrument. I was taught to be open to all forms of music, and to diversify is important to being a well-rounded musician.
Hello! My name is Ross and I am a performing guitarist and educator in the Pittsburgh area. I have taught privately for over 10 years and have experience teaching in the classroom as well. Studying Music Education at IUP, I received training in multiple effective, highly successful methods of music instruction including students with special needs ranging from grades Pre-K-12. I play in four groups and average about 100 performances a year. Looking forward to hearing from you! - Ross
I like to cater to each students goals whether they just want to learn songs, or get really involved in all aspects of the guitar. I focus on 4 areas: Scales Chords Theory and Fingerboard Knowledge (this requires reading music but is the underlying area to total understanding of the instrument, knowing the fretboard allows players to use their knowledge of the other areas) and also I love to do plenty of songs some of which I choose and others the student may request. Also do live rock group
Playing the guitar is a meaningful and rewarding life endeavor. The process of learning any instrument should be enjoyable and a break from the stresses of reality, rather than a chore. I focus on creating a comfortable atmosphere while gearing lessons towards long-term development.
