Kelly Z.

Denver, CO

About Kelly

There is a musician and a singer inside every individual and I am here to bring it out! I believe singing can be a vehicle for learning discipline, focus, collaboration, music theory, self-expression, language, interpretation, short-term and long-term goal setting and achievement, musicality, literacy, history, confidence and passion, and I hope to instill these gifts in all of my students.

I completed my BA in Music Education from Fort Lewis College, and then moved to Denver to complete my Masters of Music in vocal performance at the University of Denver. During that time I have been ble
ssed with many performance opportunities in choirs, operas, musical theatre, and jazz settings. Favorite roles include Roxie Hart in CHICAGO the musical, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, and most recently Denise in What You See is What You Get, a new musical by Denver artists.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor each lesson based on age, interests and level of experience of each student. We begin with learning how to practice, and how to use practice time efficiently. I can audio record each lesson and post that recording online where students (and/or parents) can listen and review what was learned that week, or simply go back to favorite warm-ups and exercises. In this same database I will post scanned copies of assigned sheet music, any assigned reading or exercises, and mp3 piano recordings of accompaniment.

I choose repertoire (songs) depending on the individual voice and ability level and try to give students the opportunity to perform at least once per quarter, even just for family or each other.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons will be held in my home studio where I have an electric keyboard, recording equipment, music library with repertoire for all voice types and genres, printer/copy machine, and seating area for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a small keyboard and can play recordings of music and/or accompaniment through my laptop. I will bring appropriate music selections from my library. The student may purchase his or her own copy of whatever book or music we decide to use, and is expected to have access to the internet to get recordings and sheet music. Access to a printer is a plus.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in voice pedagogy and vocal hygiene, and have an extensive background in jazz, musical theatre, opera, and art song, maintaining a foundation in classical technique.

Great teacher

Kelly was phenomenal with my 8 yr old daughter. She let her choose the type of music they sang, was always very complimentary, and was extremely flexible with our scheduling needs. She has a great teaching technique and my daughter learned a lot!

Awesome!

Kelly Zick is both fun and professional and knows what she's doing!
She helped me with my audition to a music school in London, both singing wise and with my confident. I only have great things to say about Kelly and I hope you make the right decision and let her help you with your voice goals!

I was very impressed with how well Andrea described and demonstrated what she wanted me to do. I have taken lessons with several other people and I made more progress in one lesson with her than I did for weeks with other teachers. I can't wait 'til my next lesson!

I am so grateful to Andrea....

I have always loved to sing, and sang in several choirs when I was younger. But I had "lost" my voice, and wanted to see if I could recover it. Andrea was wonderful in working with me: I was barely able to release any sound when we started our lessons. Within weeks, Andrea helped me discover how to form the vowels and release the sound. [I have moved out of state, so Andrea only had a limited time to work with me.]

She is passionate about music, and yet very patient with her students. She did not patronize me with false praise when I wasn't getting it, but she still encouraged me. And when I did get it, she was quick to affirm my progress. I strongly recommend Andrea as a voice teacher.

I started taking voice lessons from Jamie kind of on a whim- I had always wanted to learn to sing but I was nervous and kind of shy about it. Right away Jamie made me feel comfortable. He is very encouraging and gives criticism in a positive way. It is obvious that he really loves music and is knowledgeable about many different genres. I love that he focuses on theory and technique- as a beginner these are the lessons that I was looking for. After five lessons I already hear a big difference in my range and my vocal strength as well as my confidence, and I am sure that as I progress he will continue to challenge me. I highly recommend him.

Scott B.

Denver, CO

About Scott

Hi! I'm Scott, and I'm a native of this great State of Colorado! I fell in love with the drums in 6th grade, and have never looked back! I too, began by taking private lessons, having been fortunate to be able to study under one of the best performers and private teachers in the Rocky Mountain West at the time. Beginning private instruction in Elementary School, I continued for 7 years even while embarking on a performance career in high school. Since then I've both performed and recorded a wide variety of styles including most forms of rock, country, jazz, pop, Gospel, symphonic/orchestral st
yles, and concert and marching band styles. I've also been fortunate to be able to teach many other students over these last 29 years of my career, and watch them achieve their own goals in drumming. It's my belief that, whether you want to do well in school, drum corp, or perform or record professionally, private instruction is absolutely necessary in order to succeed. It's also my belief that you can have a lot of fun along the way!

*** Lesson Details ***
First, we start in a studio environment with no distractions, enabling us to get a lot done in the time we have. I supply all of the appropriate teaching materials at no additional cost to the student/parents. I also strongly encourage parents, especially of the younger students, to sit in on the lessons so they know first hand what's being taught (I have a designated, comfortable parents and guests area for that very reason). Then, if you're just starting out, we'll work through the basics. If you're already an Intermediate level student, we'll review basics to make sure the foundation is there. Basic techniques are the building blocks on which all careers or school successes are built. Then we move into areas that take the you where YOU want to go, whether it's great grades in school, auditions for a high profile drum corp, or performing and recording with either your own band or an existing pro band that you've auditioned for and taken the spotlight in. We can focus on one or more forms of rock, country, jazz, pop, Gospel, symphonic/orchestral styles, or concert and marching band styles. No matter the end goal, it's your life - and it's my job to build the foundation in you and help you get where you want to go. Above all, the key to successful private instruction is providing an atmosphere that promotes quality teaching in a safe environment, and instills the confidence a person needs to stand out in the crowd!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I supply all of the teaching material at no additional cost. The in-studio lessons are taught in the basement which is finished w tile flooring and area rugs under the main set. The room also includes a work study area, waiting area with seating for parents, and parking is available. Home includes 1 dog that is not in the studio or student entrance. Parking is in the driveway.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I supply all of the teaching material at no additional cost. I can also bring sticks if needed.

*** Specialties ***
I have been performing professionally since 1982, and during that time have played a wide variety of styles, including most forms of rock, country rock, Gospel, jazz, Broadway, symphonic arrangements, and marching band styles. The recording/studio work I've done has also required a variety of custom playing styles and techniques.

Scott is an incredibly patient teacher. Our 6 year old has been working with him for quite a few months. Its really difficult to keep the attention of a 6 year old, but Scott has different techniques to keep him interested. He has taught our son to read music in a very short time. He has taught the importance of practice as well as warming up. He has no problem coming to our house to teach, which gives our son the comfort of home. Scott is very patient and extremely flexible and we are enjoying working with him.

Its amazing seeing our little boy reading the music and playing the drums.

We highly recommend Scott in every way!

Scott is one of the best teachers I've come in contact with.

He is great with people! He really goes into the need for knowing basics if you're going to do well at any of the playing styles. It makes it so much easier to play just about anything, instead of having to start from scratch to learn every individual style of music there is, which is really important when you're doing recording like I am. He's also great in encouraging individual creativity in playing, and not just staying "inside the box." That really makes a person stand out from everyone else, which is what needs to happen if you're going to be noticed and be successful.
