I started to take voice lessons when I was 53 years old. I hadn't sang since my childhood except humming songs in
the bath tub, and was a total beginnerï¼Valerie taught me not only how to sing but how to read music and basic music theory, and gave me practical exercises to develop muscles which are required for singing also. 1 year later, I joined a choir. Choir music is in Latin, Italian, French, German, Spanish, old English and so forth and I have trouble pronouncing those words. Valerie checks each of my pronunciations carefully and gives me accurate sounds and meanings of words as well. She is a skilled teacher with a great deal of knowledge and patience. When I faced a very fast, up-tempo, tongue twisting difficult Bach piece in German last winter, I was desperate and almost gave up the music, but she broke it down into small sections and made it easier for my practice. It was a big challenge but with her help I mastered the music and sang in front of people which gave me confidence and a great deal of pleasure. I am a soprano and my mid-voice range is weak. Born in Moldova, lyric soprano Galina S. has emerged as a young artist of remarkable versatility and great vocal beauty.

Ms. S’s impressive voice and sensitive musicianship has lead to performances in numerous cities in the United States as well as Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Israel, Moldova, and St. Petersburg, R
ussia. Her repertoire encompasses a vast gamut and includes lieder, chamber music, oratorio, and opera, sung in various languages, including German, French, Italian, Russian, Czech, English, and Spanish.
Galina will be next heard as Amelia in Un ballo in maschera with Concert Opera Philadelphia, in March 2013. She will also sing the title role in Suor Angelica with OperaOggi NY in 2012/2013 season. Her most recent roles include Donna Anna in Don Giovanni (New York Lyric Opera Theater), Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Nedda in I Pagliacci, Mimì and Musetta in La Bohème, and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. Some of the other roles are Violetta in La Traviata, Tatiana in Eugene Onegin, the title role in Iolanta, Marfa in Tsar’s Bride, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
In oratorio Ms. S. has performed as a soprano soloist in the Lord Nelson Mass and Theresa Mass of Haydn, Handel’s Messiah, J. S. Bach’s Magnificat, and the Neue Liebeslieder, Opus 65 by Brahms. Her recital and chamber repertoire include songs and song cycles by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Dvořak, Manuel de Falla, Poulenc, and Messiaen.
Ms. S. has been the recipient of several awards and scholarships which include Washington International Competition in Washington DC, Center for Contemporary Opera Competition in New York, Giulio Gari Foundation International Vocal Competition in New York, New York Vocal Artists Competition, Peabody Conservatory Graduate Performance Diploma Scholarship and grant, and Mayor’s Scholarship from the University of Pennsylvania where Galina received her undergraduate degrees in music and computer science engineering. Galina has also been chosen to participate in the International Music Competition of the ARD in Munich.
Galina is a graduate of Peabody Conservatory of Music where she received a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance, and University of Pennsylvania, which she finished with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Computer Science Engineering.
Ms. S. is a dedicated and enthusiastic voice teacher, who has been teaching for the past ten years. Many of her students have become soloists in their schools’ musical productions, and several went on to continue their studies at major conservatories. She has taught at Cabrini College, Settlement Music School, and is presently teaching at Leopold Mozart Academy. She also offers lessons out of her private studio at her home.
*** Lesson Details *** My style of teaching is very straight forward. Students will first learn a proper breathing technique which is essential to good vocal production. The lessons always start with simple vocalizations, followed by repertoire appropriate to each student. The development and progress will greatly depend on students initial level and the time they spend practicing at home.
*** Studio Equipment *** Steinway Grand Piano, Music Stand, Vocal Literature. Large room with hardwood floors, which provides wonderful acoustics for singing.

Great vocal lesson experience!
Although my association with Galina was brief, the information gleaned was infinite. She really made me feel comfortable, tailored the lessons for maximum result, and quickly identified my bad habits while guiding me on how to avoid them going forward. To be a good teacher, you have to be a master yourself in that field... I can tell you Galina has a beautiful voice in her own right which really helps her lead by example. In closing, I would strongly recommend her services to anyone interested regardless of level of experience.
I started my musical education in a children's choir at age 6. When I turned 8 years old, I began piano lessons. I started violin at 9 and trombone at 10. I am now proficient on the guitar, bass, and piano. Having completed my tour of duty in the U.S. Army, I am currently on the Dean's list as a music/audio production major, and plan to continue my music education until I earn at least a masters in performance and composition. I started my teaching career at Milestones in Music, a local studio, as an independent contractor, where i was able to gain valuable experience and fine tune m
y curriculum. I am a member of the Grammy U Recording Academy, and have had opportunities to work with a lot of different musicians. (The Recording Academy is the organization that created the most prestigious award in music, the Grammy). I also do consultant work for organizations looking to setup a sound system/studio. I enjoy recording my own music in my home studio, and learning to play new instruments. *** Lesson Details *** I am a very laid back instructor... as you will find out! I understand that not everyone learns at the same rate; however, I am a perfectionist and don't allow students to advance until they have learned a particular skill. I would rather a student take forever to learn a song, and practice it with good technique, than be able to play it right away with poor form and posture! I reinforce the value of working toward goals and celebrate with students when they reach them. I understand that every student has different interests and reasons for wanting to learn an instrument... I try to focus on the areas that are of interest to the student, because if you are enjoying yourself then you will excel. This does not mean that the subjects and skills that are not of interest will not be taught, because I believe in being a well-rounded musician. I teach both jazz (improvisation/reading chord charts) and classical (written/ composed music).
*** Studio Equipment *** My studio is currently not optimal for teaching... I hope to change this within the next year!!
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide lesson books and other learning materials, but expect to be reimbursed. I expect the student to have their own instrument/equipment. Piano students are required to have a piano or a keyboard with weighted keys/hammer-action (preferably 88 keys), a piano bench and a pedal. Guitar/bass students must have an acoustic/electric guitar/bass with a strap or footstool, pick, and cable and amplifier if applicable! Digital audio students must have their own computer, Digital Audio workstation (software), digital audio interface, speakers/headphones and midi controller. All students must purchase a full size notebook with lined or staff paper!
*** Specialties *** I specialize in classical and jazz piano! I am more than proficient at most production software including: cubase, reason, fl studio, melodyne, digital performer and protools... and other editing software such as sony sound forge, audacity, etc...

I had told Jonathan prior to his first visit that I wanted my son to actually take his time and learn, not goof around. I also wanted music theory to be a majority of his lesson, rather than my son continuing to learn by ear. Jonathan definitely took the course I wanted him to take.

I have 16 years teaching experience as well as extensive playing and touring experience in all styles and genres, which gives me the insight to know what is most important for really playing the instrument. I attended Bucks County Community College and West Chester
University. I also studied privately with Ken Miller (Philly Pops Orchestra tympanist), John Alberti and Martin Bradfield.
I am currently a member of The Chuck Anderson Trio on the Dreambox Media Label. I am also a member of five other bands and freelance and record with many others...everyone from former members of Bon Jovi, to Marvin Hamlisch, and some completely unexpected names like Joe Frazier And The Knockouts. Yes, I know, that's pretty amusing, and Joe couldn't sing...but I wasn't going to tell him!
I have an extensive collection of books and videos that I draw from for my students, and to personally improve at my craft. This is not a sideline, or part-time job for me...this is my life, and my career!
*** Lesson Details *** In my lessons I strive to make the maximum progress possible, while also having as much fun as possible. This is accomplished by imparting the most valuable, useful, and beneficial information in a fun and relaxed, low pressure environment, always with the students goals and priorities first and foremost. I also like to keep the student challenged at their current ability level.
For beginning students I stress basic fundamentals, just as you would in sports. It makes progress come at a much faster clip and avoids making time consuming corrections later. The longer you play with bad habits, the harder they are to break.
For more advanced students, I assess their current abilities, determine if any problems need to be addressed, and with their goals in mind, come up with the proper plan of action.
Having been self taught till entering college I understand all ends of the spectrum. In my career I have come across three separate groups of musicians:
1) Those who have good ears, but can't read. 2) Those who read well, but can't play without music in front of them. 3) Those with great ears who also read well.
Number 3 is obviously the best of all possible worlds and what I strive to achieve with all my students. Being accomplished in both areas enables them to be prepared for anything they will come across, and gives them a distinct advantage over their peers.
*** Studio Equipment *** I have a state of the art drum studio, beyond anything else I have ever seen, with everything from a top of the line V-Drum kit (electronic drums) and several acoustic sets that I rotate occasionally to keep interest level high. As opposed to many stores, schools and homes...there are no sax players in the next studio, no guitars blaring, no kids running around, no distractions! We only hear what we want to hear! It's so much easier to maintain focus on the task at hand.
One of the pluses of the electronic set is when a student is playing along with music, we can just plug an iPod, Kindle, whatever, into the system, dial in the perfect matching volume between music and drums...and not go deaf. No muss, no fuss, no headphones needed, unless the student wants them...I have plenty.
I am in my own building, so unlike many of the shoebox sized studios i have worked in, I have a lot of space (17'x22'), a waiting area for parents, and since it's one open area, if parents come in the building they are sitting in on the lesson. There is ample parking and I am conveniently located near a major intersection, and right next to a major shopping center (Wal-Mart, Staples. Weiss Supermarket, Pep Boys, etc.). In fact many parents go shopping while their children are taking their lessons. Some even walk! I'm that close.
I am also a Certified Plus drum dealer, so if students need some equipment, we can usually handle that too.
*** Specialties *** I adapt my style to each student and usually hand write everything for quite awhile. There's a lot to cover and it enables me to break from standard procedure when beneficial. I play and teach all styles and genres, so I feel comfortable with pretty much everything. I use numerous books for many different purposes well beyond the scope of what's listed below.

My son has been taking lessons with Ed since he was 5. Ed was very patient dealing with a high energy child who had a limited attention span. Eight years later, we are still seeing Ed weekly for lessons and my son has turned into a well-rounded musician. Ed tailors the lessons to my son's musical interests and takes an interest in what is going on in his life.
We have gone to see Ed perform in several venues and he always takes the time to talk to us during his break. I highly recommend Drum Lessons with Ed for those at any skill level.

Jeff has a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from Temple University. He has performed as a percussionist with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, the Hot Springs Music Festival Symphony Orchestra, Opera, and Percussion Ensemble, Atlantic Brass Band, United Percussion, and the Reading Buccaneers Drum and Bugle Corps. He is also a performing member of the Outside Sound Ensemble, an educational program that implements art and music to work with students and adults with disabilities. Jeff is currently the Percussion Caption Head and Arranger at Neshaminy High School, as well as percussion and
drum teacher at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.
In 2015, Jeff joined the staff of Field of View Indoor Percussion Ensemble as an instructor, and is now the battery arranger for the group. In the past, he has worked with the North Penn High School Winter Percussion Ensemble, the Upper Darby Indoor Drumline, and the percussion section of the Pennsbury High School Marching Band. Jeff has a WGI Percussion Independent Open Gold Medal with United Percussion and a WGI Percussion Scholastic Open Bronze Medal with Upper Darby High School. Jeff is a Grammy-nominated timpanist with the Temple University Orchestra, and he has recorded timpani with the Hot Springs Festival Orchestra on the Naxos label.
Jeff plays drums for Revolution, I Love You, an electro power pop band based out of Philadelphia. The band has performed at NXNE in Toronto, the Dewey Beach Music Festival, LAUNCH Music Conference in Lancaster, and numerous venues in and around Philadelphia, New York, and Wilmington. He has also performed and recorded with the Philadelphia hard rock band Palaceburn, and released his first solo electronic work Folk Songs under the alias Duncan in October of 2013.
