Danny B.

Culver City, CA

I've been teaching drum set for 5 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to properly hold a pair of sticks and as time goes on you'll be able to effectively keep time, and play along to songs. I specialize in rock, fuck, pop, and blues drumming. In my lessons I typically us the instructional books Syncopation by Ted Reed and the Drummer's Bible by Mick Berry. At lessons I have two drum sets, drum pads, sticks, brushes, music stands, and various drum books. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and am excited to teach.

About Danny

I have been playing and performing the drums for the past 10 years.

In a teaching situation I try and provide a relaxed and friendly environment in order to learn a students strengths and weaknesses. I want students to be able to learn at their own pace, and not to worry if they think they are not learning quickly enough.

I generally work as a for hire musician playing for various acts in the styles of rock, funk, blues, jazz, and even movie scores.

I have toured throughout California and have had the privilege to open for such artists as A Flock of Seagulls, Jennifer Leitham, Dan
iel Glass, and Jack Sheldon.
I have recorded drums for movies including Stomp the Yard, and Obsessed; played with acts such as Big Dave LIttle, Brett Copeland, and Kenji Igus. I have played with such jazz musicians including Richard Simon and Roger Neumann.

I attended the AVPA from 2006 to 2009 and have a degree in Psychology.

*** Lesson Details ***
In the lesson setting I want the student to become as comfortable with the drums as possible. I like to maintain a relaxed environment, allowing the student to move at his or her own pace. This in mind, I believe the fundamentals are the most important to learn.

Students will first learn the basic hand techniques needed for accomplished drum playing, before moving on to more complex ideas behind groove, and feel. Reading music and keeping effective time will be emphasized in early lessons.

I also like to teach students that drums are a musical instrument that is typically played with other musicians. A student will learn how to play and interact well with other musicians in a variety of musical settings.

I use a combination of books for teaching including:
Syncopation by Ted Reed
The All-American Drummer by Charley Wilcoxon
The Drummer's Bible by Mick Berry and Jason Gianni
Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone
I will also use various drum charts and exercises as well as the use of videos and recordings.

After 3 to 6 months a student will be able to read drum notation and rhythms at a competent level and will be able to play basic drum beats on the drum kit as well as have a basic understanding of how to play with other musicians in various styles of music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Equipment includes two drumsets, drum pads, sticks, and instructional material.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Can bring drums if necessary, would prefer to bring a drum pad.
Expect the student to have drums.

*** Specialties ***
Rock, Jazz, Funk, Blues

Brian R.

Los Angeles, CA

Ready to start playing the drums? I teach drum lessons to beginners, intermediate and advanced players.

About Brian

I have been playing drums for 15 years and have taught professionally for a respected music studio in Connecticut. I have played in numerous bands and toured the United States, Europe and Central America. The styles I teach are Rock, Jazz, Latin, R&B/Hip-Hop, Funk/Soul, Reggae, Folk/Indie, Metal/Hardcore and World Rhythms.

I teach drum-set and various types of hand percussion such as bongos, djembe, darbuka/doumbek and congas.

*** Lesson Details ***
I've always thought that learning should be fun. I consistently try to bring a creative and laid-back approach to teaching drums. After the
first lesson most students realize that I don't take myself too seriously. Sometimes certain techniques or exercises can be tiresome or even boring. When this occurs, I switch gears and move on to something else. In my opinion, if a student is getting very frustrated it is generally best to relax and try a different exercise or beat. If we can't enjoy ourselves then what is the point?!

*** Equipment ***
I expect a student to have at least a pair of sticks and a pad. Eventually they will need a metronome for practicing and if they are serious a drum-set at some point. If you'd like to learn hand percussion I recommend having a hand drum of some kind.

*** Specialties ***
The styles I teach are Rock, Jazz, Latin, R&B/Hip-Hop, Funk/Soul, Reggae, Folk/Indie, Metal/Hardcore and World Rhythms. I teach from the heart and develop a natural feel for my students. I also use multiple books mixed into my teaching.

Brian is a very intuitive teacher. I was a drum student of his when he lived in Connecticut. He was able to unlock my creative ideas on the drum set in ways I never thought possible. I highly recommend Brian to anyone looking to learn drums on a deep level.

Truly the most talented drummer I've ever had the pleasure to witness and work with. Brian continues to astonish me with his ability to take the complicated and make it practical and simple. Words cannot possibly describe the gift the gods have blessed this man with...not only have my drumming skills increased but my inner knowledge of life has been blessed. I would pay for your first lesson because I know you will not be let down, Brian is an ironclad guarantee!!

Brian's experience and passion for drumming become apparent during the first lesson. He is a talented musician and a wonderful teacher, adjusting the pace of each lesson to match your needs and your level of skill. His ability to play numerous styles makes him an ideal teacher for those up and coming drummers who don't want to get locked into playing one particular type of music. I've been playing drums for as long as Brian has, but even with all of my experience he has still helped me branch out and incorporate new techniques into my repertoire. Whether you are a beginner, looking to learn the basics, or an experienced drummer, looking to hone your skills in a particular area, Brian is a great teacher to turn to!

Brianna S.

Los Angeles, CA

Focus on rudiments, fundamentals, technique. Snare solos, and different set techniques.

Drum lessons are only offered at the student's location.

About Brianna

Hi, I'm Bri! I'm a graduate of North Central College with a BA in Music (Emphasis in Composition and Percussion) and a minor in History. I absolutely love music, every single aspect of it. I love to make music a part of everybody's lives who want and need it. I want to help you with your musical needs. I have been playing percussion for 17 years, singing for 23, and playing piano for 19 years. I was a member of a recording and performing Chicago band, Oblio and Arrow, where I provided backing vocals and helped with the song arrangements. I also record vocals for different artists hooks, jingle
s, choruses, and entire songs (covers and originals).

History has always fascinated me. They way our world has developed and changed, and continues to evolve is amazing. Everything can be tied back to the past, and I feel it's important to take a look back, put yourself in that time, and really study how things were to help understand why things are the way they are now.

Crocheting and knitting are a couple of good habits/hobbies I picked up about 8 years ago. I sell scarves online and I'm always working on some sort of project. I will have you knitting and pearling with the best of them!

Music, history, crochet, and knitting....I'm your girl!

Ryan S.

Experienced drum teacher of 7 years! My lesson plan is simple : 1. we warm up with basic beats + rudiments + paradiddles, 2. we focus on rhythm + proper technique, and 3. we play a song that incorporates the techniques we're working on.

The time devoted to each portion of the lesson is totally adjustable. You will learn what you want to learn at your own pace.

About Ryan

Recorded professionally for tv shows such as "Glee," "Entertainment Tonight," and "Extra." Also records for "Sonoton Recordings." Currently resides in Los Angeles, California. I already LOVE Ronny as my guitar instructor and from playing with him I knew how talented he was with harmonica. So I decided to start lessons with him for just that. I also have my best friend taking harmonica lessons with him! His positive support and analogies connect the dots when it comes to learning a new instrument. I highly recommend Ronny as a teacher! Humble, talented and genuine.

He is very engaging, and easygoing. He allows some silliness when a child student may lose focus at times. He's a great instructor for children.
