Jan has been teaching drums for over 6 years to students ranging from 4 years old to adults in their forties.
He teaches exercises and techniques that allow students to break down the movements of their hands and feet on the drum kit into specific strokes that can then methodically be practiced to attain proficiency, control and speed on the instrument.
To keep things fun and interesting we learn covers in a variety of styles and difficulty levels, and develop our reading skills to further our understanding and technique.
Jan will also allow his students to write their own parts as they progress on the kit by picking up either the guitar or bass and giving them the chance to jam with another instrument, which most students love to do and have a lot of fun with.
Lessons are held with two drum kits so students can easily copy their teachers movements.
I recently graduated with a Drum Set Performance and Music Education dual degree at Berklee College of Music (in August 2014), and I am extremely capable of taking on students at all levels. I am a very patient teacher, and easy to work with. If the student is willing to take the time to practice, we can go a long way in not very much time at all. I am learned in drumming styles ranging from classical percussion to corps-style rudiment-based drumming to jazz/rock/Latin drum set.
Focus on rudiments, fundamentals, technique. Snare solos, and different set techniques.
Drum lessons are only offered at the student's location.
Experienced drum teacher of 7 years! For beginners, my lesson plan is simple : 1. we start off with basic exercises from "Alfred's Drum Method Book" series, 2. we go over two to three drum beats, 3. we practice sheet-music (typically songs chosen by the student). The time devoted to each portion of the lesson is totally adjustable. In other words, you will learn what you want to learn at your own pace. Lessons can be done at my apartment, your place, or online.
My goal as a teacher is to help you discover your own unique voice by exploring a variety of different styles and approaches. To become a great drummer, you'll need to practice, but you can learn many secrets that will make this process easier and more fun. During our lessons we will discuss concepts of drumming such as it's role, its history, and specific vocabulary essential for communicating. We will also focus on technique and exercises as well as your own personal tastes and interests.
