Jesus G.

Chicago, IL

About Jesus

Jesus. has more than 15 years experience teaching piano and 5 years teaching the Suzuki piano method, with dozens of his students playing successfully in recitals, competitions, and auditions around the Chicago area.

Jesus completed his Masters of Music in Piano Performance with a scholarship from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Il. Renowned Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio and Dr. Ludmila Lazard were his advisers and professors. In addition, during his program at Roosevelt University, Jesus took a course aimed at developing figure base and harpsichord performance with Dr. David Sch
rader.

He is a certified piano Suzuki teacher by the Suzuki Association of the Americas and is piano instructor.

In addition, Mr. G. performs solo recitals and lieder by Rachmaninoff, Shubert, and Schumann with his wife the soprano Darina Assenova in festivals such as “Shubertiade”, which is organized by Pianoforte Foundation in Chicago and Make Music Chicago.

Mr. G. often performs in Cultural Festivals in Mexico and United Sates, and has performed with major orchestras as a soloist and as an accompanist.

All his piano students are active as performers. Jesus always encourages them to perform in public, looking for piano festivals, competitions, recitals, auditions and any opportunities where they can showcase their talent. His students have been accepted in pre-college music schools in Chicago.

*** Lesson Details ***
I focus on the basic piano technique skills when I start with a new student, it includes good posture of the body, good hand shape, firm fingertips, loose arm weight, good position of each finger, and flexible wrist. I always look for a rich tone production when playing each key of the keyboard in order to create a beautiful musical discourse throughout the piano piece.

When the student is from 3 to 6 years old I use the Suzuki method. When the student is older than 6 I combine the traditional and Suzuki method having great results with the student's performances.

My Philosophy: All my students learn to play piano in an artistry, confident, and joyful way.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in living room with upright piano, couches, bookshelves, etc. Parents can sit in on lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide copies of some piano works. But I also expect my students to buy their own books and have their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
For beginners I use either the Faber or Thomson method. I can teach the Suzuki method too. I specialize in Classical music, but I can also teach pop music for piano.

Dan P.

Des Plaines, IL

About Dan

I am a member of the Chichago Northwest Symphony Orchestra. I have been instructing students from kindergarten to high-school all over Chicago area for the past thirteen years. My highest accomplishment is having a high-school sophomore student playing first chair first violin on Chamber Orchestra and third chair first violin in Symphonic Orchestra at Maine Township High School, Park Ridge, Illinois. Other accomplishments are having students prepared for Granquist Memorial Music Competition, Geneva Illinois.

My lessons are always focused on adapting the violin practice to fit the character
of the individual student. Besides learning good violin performance practices, the student will shape up character by developing specific neural pathways that will help in child development as well as overall cognitive activity.

Learning to play violin not only opens the mind for greater understanding of artistic expressions but also adds to the quality of experiencing life more complex otherwise not possible in absence of music.

I never had a tutor before, so it was difficult for me to choose from the wide arrange of tutors there are. But I think Dan was the right choice. He's very professional and goes far and beyond to help his students understand how certain things are when playing the violin. I would definitely recommend Dan to anyone looking for a violin tutor.

Voytek F.

Rolling Meadows, IL

About Voytek

Hi, my name is Voytek and I love music! I currently do over 200 shows a year and in addition to performing as a soloist, I play in 2 gigging ensembles. Thanks to music, I've been able to meet many incredible people and travel all over the world to Germany, New York, Switzerland, Washington DC and the Dominican Republic. My goal is to inspire my students and share with them my passion for music so they can also experience how wonderful and rewarding it really is. Let's rock some jams!

*** Lesson Details ***
While teaching lessons, I like to keep the atmosphere relaxed but productive. I
utilize many proven traditional teaching techniques (for example: scales, theory, exercises, drills and prepared pieces) however, I also try to keep things fresh with fun backing tracks and music theory games to keep students engaged. I am also very flexible and open to suggestions, so I encourage students to ask questions and let me know if they want to learn a specific song or musical concept.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio is equipped with a 76-key keyboard, drum set, music stands, recording equipment and a PA system. Plenty of parking available, either in the driveway or on the street.

*** Travel Equipment ***
In order to teach at a student's home I will need a quiet room/area where we can concentrate on our studies. If the student is taking drum or piano lessons, they will need a drum kit or piano/keyboard. Also, a boombox/CD player may be necessary if we need to play with some backing tracks.

*** Specialties ***
Trumpet - Jazz & Classical

Drums - Everything from Jazz to Rock, Waltz, Cha-Cha, Metal etc.

Singing - All Pop music, old (Frank Sinatra era) and new (The Temptations) and newest (artists of today).

Audio Recording & Production - All styles, such as Rock, Pop,
Cinematic, Hip-Hop, Country etc.

Piano - Beginning piano, building a solid foundation.

Music Theory - I can answer questions and teach the concepts.

Having trouble with your band/choir part? Preparing for an audition and want to get first chair? I can help!

My son is only 6 years old, so during the online class, he could not fully focus all the time. But Voytek was very patient and try to encourage him and attract his attentions.
Yesterday was the first class, we will continue to finish the 5 classes and see the progression.
But so far, Jeremy said he enjoyed the lesson, it was awesome.
Thanks,Voytek.

Voytek is very friendly and uses many techniques to keep a highly active kid focused. He even went 10 minutes over to make sure my kid covered 4 songs well. And he is good at inspiring her on love for music too. She practiced piano for half an hour on her own after the lesson. I am excited to have my kid learn piano with him.

Voytek is patient, kind, encouraging, and enthusiastic. He focuses on what you do well, and then gently pushes you to do just a little bit better. And behind that, he is a master of music theory … he breaks it down, makes it easy to understand, and then applies that knowledge or skill to whatever you’re working on to help you gain proficiency. But he does it in such a way that doesn’t feel overwhelmingly technical. He helps keep you motivated and excited to learn. And his love of music, all kinds of music, always comes through. Lessons are fun! He’s an excellent teacher!

Michelle Kei I.

Arlington Heights, IL

About Michelle Kei

Michelle Kei I., a soprano of Japanese and American heritage, "uses her strong dramatic soprano to slice through the orchestra" in a varied repertoire that encompasses Verismo to Broadway. Possessing a captivating stage presence and praised as "superb," "gifted," and a "constant breakaway from the rest of the vocal pack," she has entertained audiences on stages around the world.

Those are the first two sentences of my professional biography. I thought I'd use them to get the ball rolling.

Ever since I can remember, I've always been a performer. I come from a very musical family. I was al
ways singing! I sang at home, in church, in show-choir and musicals at school - basically anywhere I could find an audience!

When I decided to go to college to study music, I chose the prestigious School of Music at Indiana University. I wanted to sing Broadway, but my father encouraged me to study classical singing first, so I'd have the foundations for a bulletproof technique that could endure a long and demanding career. I'm so glad that he did!

Who would have thought that I would learn to LOVE opera?!? It had everything that Broadway did, and so much more! Plus, I learned to fill a theater with the sound of my voice and soar over the orchestra WITHOUT A MICROPHONE!!!

Would you like to learn how to do that? I can show you how.

Let me help you find your REAL VOICE!!!

What you can expect from me:

- I will provide a supportive and effective work environment.

- I will make recommendations on repertoire based upon your goals

- I will provide you with an individualized regimen of study based upon your strengths and development, not a standardized format of study.

What I expect from you:

- Learn the musical selections we choose. Your lesson time should be used for improving your technique, not learning your music.

- Leave your outside life at the door. It will be waiting for you when you leave.

- Enjoy the process. Experiment. If it doesn't work, try something else. Take constructive criticism as an opportunity for improvement, not as a personal attack.

- Commit yourself fully! Be engaged. The benefit you receive is equal to the work you put into the process.

I've taken a few lessons with Michelle now and I am very happy with my experience! Michelle is great at customizing her lesson to her student. I actually tried a few different teachers in the area before finding Michelle and no one seemed to "get" what I was looking for. With Michelle I feel challenged at an appropriate pace and am able to focus on the important details. Michelle has lots to offer and even in just a short time has helped me to improve immensely! I am very excited to continue studying with Michelle.

I have just begun taking singing lessons with Michelle, and I have to say she is a wonderful teacher, who not only will educate you on the fundamentals of using your voice as an instrument, and exploring your voice, but also give you the confidence, and motivation to do so. I look forward to my lesson every week with Michelle, knowing that I will learn something new, explore the strength of my voice, and also be encouraged, and given guidance to reach my highest potential as a singer, and an actress.

Ryan B.

Chicago, IL

About Ryan

Ryan is a musician from Jefferson Park who plays a plethora of different instruments. He specializes in guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele, but also dabbles in accordion, piano, drums, harmonica and several others. Learning to play instruments is one of the true pleasures in his life and he hopes he can make it one of yours, too.

As a teacher Ryan's goals are simple. First and foremost he wants to make his lessons comfortable, interesting and fun. A close second is to build a strong base on the basics, so that as advanced techniques are built upwards, the structure (of skill) can support i
tself. And third, an understanding of the theory and history behind the music is a great way to engage in the music beyond just the rote learning of technique.

After a brief foray in physics, Ryan settle into a degree in music at the University of Illinois, specializing in Ethnomusicology (the study of music of different cultures). This education gave him a strong background in music theory and history in the Western tradition, but also opened him up to a vast experience with a diverse cross section of music from around the world. His insatiable love for learning new instruments started here, where he studied music from West Africa to Bali.

Currently Ryan is a co-lead singer, songwriter and stringed instrument player for the local band Distant Brothers, a folk rock band based out of Chicago. They play venues throughout the Midwest, with some of the notable venues being Metro and Cubby Bear in Chicago. Another highlight of his time with the band has been a collaboration with Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra, where he not only was able to play in collaboration with the orchestra, but joined in the arranging and conceptualization of some of the pieces played.

Ryan is a very good teacher. I have been trying to learn how to play for a long time, but his techniques helped me grasp the basics quickly. He provided notes, recordings and homework after every class which helped a lot while practising and getting better at playing the ukelele. He was able to solve my doubts and issues effectively as he would imitate my play and figure out my problem areas and advise accordingly. He's very patient and consistent, it was a great experience learning with him!

I really enjoy taking lessons with Ryan! He took time to really listen to and understand what my goals are and is helping me work towards them, which is no small feat for a complete beginner. He explains new concepts in ways I can understand and I feel comfortable asking for clarification if there is something I'm having trouble with. He also gives me a variety of different exercises (chords, scales, picking, strumming, full songs) to keep things interesting and to keep me engaged. I also like that he adds in a little music theory so that I know why I'm doing what I'm doing. In all Ryan is kind, chill, accommodating, talented, and thoughtful, so I would definitely recommend him as a teacher.
