About Harry
I started playing clarinet in the school band at age six. My father was a musician, and he thought that playing in the school band would help me overcome my extreme shyness. I remember my first music lesson. I really liked my teacher. He came to my house, and he helped me to care for my clarinet and make some sounds on it. I thought playing the clarinet was wonderful. Once in awhile my mom would have to urge me to practice, but I was so drawn to playing the clarinet from the start that I would practice a lot on my own.

I was the youngest member of the grade school band, but my music l
essons helped me to keep up with the older kids. I had found a niche, and my niche helped me open up to other students in school and make friends.

I participated in band programs through middle school and high school. In middle school I began studying saxophone and flute so I could play in the jazz band. As a high school junior and senior I also got the opportunity to play in the Denver University Concert Band, and I was first chair clarinet in Colorado All-State Band and Orchestra.

I attended the University of Denver on a swimming scholarship as an Accounting Major and Music Minor. I was first clarinet in the 1st Infantry Army Band at Ft. Meade, Maryland and then I toured Europe as first chair flute in the 3rd Army Band based in Wurzburg, Germany. I was honorably discharged after a three year tour. I returned to the states and enrolled in Metropolitan State College as a Music Performance Major.

I started teaching and playing professionally during college and have done so ever since. In the course of my career I have performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra (CSO) on clarinet and saxophone, on second clarinet with the Central City Opera, and as a soloist for the Littleton and Jefferson Symphony Orchestras on clarinet and saxophone. I have performed on woodwinds for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities and the Denver Municipal Band. I have played shows at the Boulder Dinner Theater, the Country Dinner Playhouse, the Littleton Town Hall Center for the Arts, the Schwayder Theater, and the new Lone Tree Center for the Arts and with PHAMLY (the Physically Handicapped Actors & Musical Artists League) and Magic Moments.

I have played professionally many styles of music (jazz, blues, pop, ethnic, klezmer, polkas) for clubs, parties, weddings, and concerts with the Benny Goodman Band, Tommy Dorsey Band, Jay Wieder Dance Orchestra, Moments Notice, Rave Reviews, and Ad Hoc Entertainment in big band, quartet, trio and duo settings.

I have been featured on many CDs for such artists as Mary Stribling, Georgeann Low, Neil Haverstick, Big Junior, Scott Smith, Martha Yordy and Ben Cohen.

I also perform concerts and record with Combo Amazo, a band that plays original jazz, blues, bluegrass, and klezmer. We were featured on the several NPR radio shows including E-town with Richie Havens. I lead a strolling duo on clarinet with guitar that played in the Denver International Airport Concert Series for 20 years and is available for any event.

I decided to teach because I wanted to share the enthusiasm and joy I have for music with students. I feel passionate about helping develop a child’s talents as a musician. I relate to well kids and can provide an atmosphere where kids are motivated to learn. I also enjoy teaching adults.

I help the student build good fundamentals. I customize lessons to define and reach realistic goals and address students’ school band needs or other musical activities. I respect students’ other interests and pursuits. I am an experienced professional musician well versed in woodwinds and a variety of styles. I can offer students a broad spectrum of musical knowledge. I can teach all levels from a young beginner to an adult professional. I have given clinics at many local high schools. I would love to share my skills and expertise with students.

Harry helped my daughter polish up some pieces for an audition. She was nervous and didn't feel fully prepared. Three visits from Harry gave her some great instruction and the confidence to go in and nail her audition!

My son has had three lessons so far, and we have been very impressed. Mr. Grainger does a great job of encouraging my son through positive feedback, making lessons fun, and giving him very specific, targeted feedback to improve his playing. He has been very flexible and responsive to our changing needs. I highly recommend him.

About Molly
I have loved music almost all my life. I began my lifelong journey to immerse myself in learning piano at age seven. At thirteen, I added violin lessons as well. By the time I reached high school, I knew that music would be my major in college, and that music would always be a vital part of my life.
I played violin with my high school orchestra, including taking part in productions of Fiddler on the Roof and Anything Goes. I also played piano with the orchestra, and performed the first movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor in concert. I played the piano for my school’s top show choir
as well, performing with the group throughout the Denver area. I was also a member of the Colorado All-State Orchestra. All this time, I continued my private lessons in both piano and violin.
While still in high school, I auditioned for, and got, the title role in the Country Dinner Playhouse’s production of Fiddler on the Roof.
After high school, I chose the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music to continue my music education. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Music degree in piano. I was invited to join the academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, as well as the music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda. I have also completed my Master of Music in piano at Lamont School of Music.
While in college, I accompanied many vocal and instrumental students, and discovered the joy of chamber and collaborative music. I formed partnerships and friendships with many other musicians, including professional musicians in several countries. I have also worked as a pianist for several area churches and spent one holiday season as a pianist at Nordstrom.
I believe that music should be an integral part of a well-rounded education. I hope that my passion for music will enable me to help others find the same joy and appreciation.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that every student learns differently and that those differences should be embraced. For that reason, I do not advocate a specific method or curriculum. I will work with each student individually to determine what method of learning will work best for them. Together we will decide what our curriculum should be so that we can incorporate not only learning, but fun into lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Computer desk, piano, dedicated music room, space for parents to wait

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect students to provide their own instruments.

As of Spring 2016 I completed two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Music and Psychology and two Graduate Certificate in the Suzuki Technique and the Alexander Technique. During my education I was fortunate enough to study violin with Jerilyn Jorgensen and Brad Watson. As well as, perform in the Lamont Symphony Orchestra. About Stacey
I am a lifelong student of many subjects. My approach to teaching is one of patience and enthusiasm. I do my best to understand the student's learning style and teach accordingly.
I have been a professional actor, model, and singer for 10 years. I specialize in on-camera acting for TV commercials, industrial video, and host. Most of the modeling I've done is commercial print and live promotional modeling. I've taught group acting classes to kids ages 6-17, including on-camera auditioning, stage directions, script analysis, and business skills (headshot/resume, finding an agent, industry term
s, etc.).
My singing experience includes pop, musical theatre, and jazz. I've coached students who believed they were hopeless, and they were pleased to discover their gifts and see growth!
I am a certified yoga instructor (RYT-200) and have taught for 3 years, both group classes and privately.
I minored in French in college and tutored beginning French.
My motto: Never stop learning!

About April
I have picked up and loved the flute for 13 years, and I wish to share this passion and creativity with students. I have had the opportunity to study under Emily McKay and Marco Granados, as well as perform in masterclasses with Trevor Wye, William Bennett, and Lorna Mcghee. As a recent Denver citizen, I wish to grow my roots as a teacher who fosters flute playing as a fun and outside-the-box activity.
I have started teaching private lessons since high school, and into my college and graduate school years. I have taken classes on pedagogy and teaching artistry in creative ways, such as tea
ching students to do improvisations and asking questions in order to get them engaged in the learning process. I have played classical, jazz, pop, and latin music, and can teach an array of different genres. I believe music contributes to a well-rounded individual, and will gladly accept students of all experiences and ages. My goal will to always keep the student engaged and having fun!

April is wonderful. She is finding 'hidden' problems with my breathing and use, or at times misuse of my neck muscles and breathing that would be very hard for a lesser teacher to detect and work to correct.
Her ear for pitch/tone and the various 'artifact' background variances in my blowing/breathing structure and ways toward a remedy is amazing.
Any teacher can show a student posture and finger placement, but her teaching techniques go far beyond that.
I am more than pleased with her commitment to excellence.
Thank you April.
