Jeremy A.

Casselberry, FL

About Jeremy

I am an accomplished performing musician that has experience playing many different instruments in multiple styles. I believe first and foremost that learning music should be fun and exciting with an emphasis on self exploration and communication. It's these qualities in my own musicianship that have helped me grow a true love of music and have pushed my career forward as a performer.

*** Lesson Details ***
In lessons I use a shifting curriculum that is made to work with the needs of each individual student. I firmly believe in the importance of learning to read music and learning some bas
ic music theory, in my experience this helps the student grow from being able to reproduce the music of others to eventually developing a unique style and sound. After three to six months my beginning level students typically feel comfortable enough to play with other musicians confidently.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons take place in the living room seating and a guitar are available. 1 cat and 1 small dog kept separate during lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide all of the necessary educational tools such as listening samples, and printed off hand outs. The student needs to have their own instrument, staff paper and a pencil.

Jeremy is incredibly knowledgeable in every aspect of music, I find myself learning much more than just the guitar! His methods make me feel comfortable with his teaching style and he's extremely patient with me as I'm trying to learn new chords, shapes and scales. I highly recommend someone who is ready to learn any type of instrument as he teaches all different kinds and someone who has become my friend over time! Thanks for everything Jeremy, I look forward to continuing learning!

Garine A.

Casselberry, FL

About Garine

I am a music educator. I received my Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Central Florida in 2011.
My higher education started in the Fall of 2006 when I began attending Daytona Beach Community College. My two years there were spent fully engaged in all activities. I finished my GED requirements while participating in many ensembles like the Ormond Beach Symphony Orchestra, Daytona Beach Community College Concert Band, Brass Ensemble, Falcon Pans (steel drum ensemble), Pit Orchestra for musicals, and Choir. All of these ensembles helped me increase my awareness of many diffe
rent teaching and directing styles. I enjoyed participating in the college’s annual Medieval Yuletide Feast while playing the trombone, tuba, and singing in the choir. These experiences augmented my ability to manage my time while having the opportunity to go to school.
Almost every summer since 2005 my church has help send me to Port-du-paix, Haiti, for two weeks at a time. There we are encouraged to do many things involving teaching children, feeding the elderly and needy, and meeting new people that have made a difference in each of our lives. One of the opportunities I had during the summer of 2006 was helping teach two rehearsals of a small brass ensemble. The teacher who was heading the project had brought many donated instruments with her from Kentucky, and distributed them to the students prior to my arrival. She didn't know much about brass instruments (saxophonist), so I got to step in and take the players aside to teach the basics. Even though there was a language barrier, I was able to communicate using hand gestures, my little knowledge of Creole, and the universal language of music. This was one of the best times I have had in my life.
Another great accomplishment I have had is being a contra player in the Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2008 season. This opportunity ensured my discipline to tough through hard. The sole act of carrying a brass instrument that weighs over 25 lbs around all summer is a difficult task, but I had a lot of fun doing it. I also got to meet many people all over the United States that play the same instrument I do and have a similar life as mine. We had the overall score of fifth place, but our hard work and perseverance is obvious in our finals performance video.
I am a proud sister of Sigma Alpha Iota. I have held important positions including Corresponding Secretary and have headed many chair positions. The sisters of Zeta Tau are a very supportive group full of diversity. Having our weekly meetings and formal business meetings keep me up to date with Robert’s Rules of Order. I have transferred the things I have learned from these meetings to other organizations like CMENC. At the time when I was leaving the college level, I receive the Sword of Honor from our province officer. Every Spring I attend FMEA in Tampa. I made many very important connections with other educators and soon to be educators.
I also taught three years at a Title I elementary school in Osceola County, FL. It was a very tough three years, but I am grateful for all of the strategies and steps I've learned to make me a better teacher. In my second year at the school, I received the honor of being voted Teacher of the Year for our school. That was such a humbling time in my career.

*** Lesson Details ***
Expect to be engaged in learning. That said, I love teaching, and I will work hard to motivate you. Improvement only comes when you've put in the effort, and I'll hold you to that.
Each lesson is personalized, depending on the individual (vocational/ avocational).

*** Studio Equipment ***
Main Room Music: piano, two row of buttons on her accordion, she has all instruments, parents can sit in on lesson, chairs, one couch

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide music stands. The student must either buy the music on his/her own or purchase it from me. I would contact the parent or student prior to the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I am a certified music teacher in the state of Florida k-12 (ESOL Certified). When it comes to the instruments I teach, my specialization is low brass (I am a tuba player), and the rest I have taught up to an intermediate level.

Lela G.

Deland, FL

About Lela

QUALIFICATIONS:
MUSIC AND EDUCATION:
I am 23 years old and have recently finished school for my degree in Music Therapy and just completed my 900 hour (6 month) internship at a behavioral health hospital.
I have been musically involved for eleven years, gaining experience from many avenues including band, private lessons, and musical gigs. I taught music theory and ear training at an after school music and arts business for 1.5 years and worked with a variety of students ranging from 6 years old to twenty years old. As a music therapist, I am required to be proficient on my main instrument
(flute) plus on guitar and piano. I am also required to be proficient in the creation and implementation of goals and objectives, people skills, and to have an empathetic, understanding, and positive approach in all I do. I believe these skills contribute greatly to the effectiveness of my teaching. I am also qualified and willing to teach adaptive lessons for students with all types of disabilities.

PSYCHOLOGY:
I have a minor in psychology and have always been interested in the subject which has lead me to much research of my own. I have completed a practicum at a behavioral health hospital and an internship at another behavioral health hospital. I have taken multiple psychology classes- a few being abnormal psychology, clinical and counseling psychology, and brain and behavior.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
Education experience: I taught music theory for 1.5 years in Tallahassee, Florida. I am currently a certified substitute teacher in Volusia county Florida for elementary through high school and I teach flute sectionals at a local middle school. I am also a teachers aide in two kindergarten classrooms. This job requires me to teach students individually and in small groups. I also do music groups with the kindergarteners once a week. Prior to this I have been a regular dividend in a kindergarten classroom for a semester, have lead flute choir and flute sectionals, and have volunteered often in an elementary art classroom.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
My teaching style is organized yet laid-back. I am understanding and positive in my approach.
I have access to lesson books/textbooks and can make suggestions for you based on your needs and desires.
Our first lessons will be based around assessing your strengths and weaknesses. From there I will create a schedule customized to your specific needs. Your input is important to me as I am always willing to be flexible based on your personal needs and preferences.
Learning is FUN so I will make sure you are enjoying the lessons as well as getting the most out of them that you can!

About availability: If none of my times work for you, let me know and we can definitely figure something out as my schedule is very flexible!

Justin has been teaching my 14 yr old son guitar for the last month. He has such an easiness to his personality that he has quickly developed a great connection with my son. His love for music is genuine and I can tell it is spreading to my son. He is encouraging and friendly but still maintains reasonable expectations for commitment and practice. I couldn't be happier with Justin. I would totally recommend him.
